tiger2022 Posted October 4 Posted October 4 This is a very winnable series. I just don't think Seattle is this amazing team that all the "experts" claim. I am afraid Melton will get lit up in the first inning and the Tigers will be down 5-1 or something going into the 2nd inning and that will just kill the morale. Getting smartest man in the room vibes from Hinch yet again. Quote

It’s great how we’ve gone from so many saying Melton needs to be starting to now people are saying starting Melton is conceding game 1. i don’t have a ton of confidence in his performance tonight, but Seattle hasn’t seen him and they have lit up Montero. He will obviously be on a very short leash. Quote
romad1 Posted October 4 Posted October 4 Imagine this team with one more established RH hitter: an Alex Bregman if you will. Sheesh... Quote

This kind of touches on something I feel might work in game one vs Seattle. They've been off, and its tough to replicate any game play activity during off days when the sport is an everyday game. I think if there's a game to steal via pitching chaos or spot starter or whatever you wan to call it, game one is the opportunity for that/ Of course, baseball is a largely 50/50 proposition. While the above scenario might make for an slim advantage, it's just but one variable to consider, and it might not come to fruition anyway. Quote

IdahoBert Posted October 4 Posted October 4 I wish Hinch would manufacture a pitcher out of the imagination of people who just talk about things online. Hinch is a looser and a cheet! 1 Quote
Hongbit Posted October 4 Posted October 4 (edited) There are 2 things that scare me about this series: First is this video of Cal Raleigh’s 37th HR at Comerica in July. This is insane. It’s an 85 mph change up well off the plate. He’s not on the pitch at all and still puts it out in a deep part of the field. Maybe a few other guys could stay back and hit one out to right, but nobody else in mlb does what Raleigh did with that pitch. This guy is a different level of dangerous. The second is Playoff Randy. 2020 was the last time he got an extended taste of the postseason and he absolutely dominated. He’s super streaky so fingers crossed that he doesn’t catch fire. We’re done if he does. Edited October 4 by Hongbit Quote

His hard hit rate went up last season then this season he's pulling the ball more and he gotten his ground ball rate down while maintaining the HH rate. That combination will get you some ISO. Odd how his OPS went off a cliff in July and Aug without his HR rate dropping all that much. Quote

But you still have to stay up or down. He hits pitches in the middle all the way across the zone. Quote
