All the players acquired at the trade deadline have been complete and utter disasters.

Finnegan included?

Montero has actually been reasonable also except of course last night

If Ilitch cared about winning, he would send a clear message this morning by firing Scott Harris.

This is not meant to be a reverse jinx or whatever but baseball playoffs teach us that anything can happen.  A win with Skubal on the mount is not a guarantee. I’m not going into tonight with that mindset.  He’s got a lot of pressure to not only perform but to last. I’ll get nervous if his pitch count is up early on.  This game is not gravy. Coming home with a split is nice but we saw last year it’s still hard to win 2 in a row.

He's got a lot of pressure, but I think Seattle has more. They saw no hits yesterday from 4-1 in the lineup. If the Tigers can manage to put two runs on the board early (probably not, I know), we may see Ms fans get restless and Ms coaching and players get a little desperate.

Finnegan should be available...he threw 1 inning, 15 pitches. Same with Holton, 1 inning but only 9 pitches. Probably not Vest, he threw 2 innings with 19 pitches. Kahne also pitched 1 inning with 10 pitches. If Skubal can give us 7 innings, we may be fine with our bullpen. More pressure on Seattle or in Skubal? Expectations can cause stress.

M’s have pressure for sure. But tbese are all good players and I don’t think anything will be the result of pressure.  My thoughts relate to fan thinking. It doesn’t project to the players. If it did this team would be home by now.  They aren’t looking ahead or assuming that game 2 is a gimme.  And Seattle isn’t either.

We have a good chance to go up 2-0 coming home. That’s gold Jerry!

Agreed, and can’t assume the Seattle offense will be quiet at Comerica. They really lit it up at Comerica just before the All Star break. T-Mobile is a pitcher’s park. Tigers need to win 2 more games and if they do it’s likely one of them will have been on the road, IMO (in addition to last night’s road win).

The good thing is Vest is more likely to be available than Munoz who also pitched 2 innings but threw 6 more pitches.

Both of their pitch counts were low though (Vest only had 4 more pitches than Finnegan) and with the day off tomorrow I think they are both likely to be available.if they both had the same number of pitches but in 1 inning it would be guaranteed they’d be available.

Skubal needs to Skubal.  He wants that big paycheck?  Let’s see something similar to what he shoved on Cleveland.

Offense needs to put the ball in play and create havoc on the base paths like in the first half of the season.  The Seattle gloves around the horn can be exploited.

@SeattleMike has to get a sign on TV asking for Bert’s order of double curly fries.

Yeah, Montero has been hot and cold, but definitely not a "complete and utter disaster."

This is a general question. I don’t know where to put it so I’ll put it here.

HBO Max keeps pushing “banana ball“ to me. Can anyone explain this to me? I tried to watch it, but it seemed to be for people who think baseball is boring and who don’t find a 1-0 extra inning game scintillating.
