From the mlb.com story:

The orange alternate jerseys will be part of the home rotation with the Motor City jerseys that will serve as the City Connect jerseys for a third season.

So, sadly, no. It's in addition to.

If they leave it up to starting pitchers to choose the jersey, as many other teams do, we may never see the home whites or road grays ever again. Kids like colors.

They got very colorful in the 1970s (not the Tigers but other teams) and then they eventually went back to more traditional uniforms.  I don't really care anymore.  If they have to screw around with the game, let it be the uniforms rather than how the game is played.

Lucky us, we'll get both! 🤡

I like navy on the road. Hate anything other than the home whites at home.

But if merch sales are what is going to help pay for this roster, small price to pay...

I'm not sure about baseball but some sports pool all the merchandise sale money and split it up evenly.

OK, so, perhaps not as bad as I imagined it might be.

The way I read this, the orange kit will be worn for all Friday games in place of the City Connects, which will be relegated to the occasional Monday home game, although not all (or maybe all but one?); and on the road, the blues will be worn sometimes and not worn sometimes. I do have a feeling players would like the dark uniforms for road games, so they may wear them more than not.

If we're forced to listen to them on the radio, it won't matter what they wear. Welcome to 1970...😅😅

Also take a good look at Riley on the pic in this tweet:

Does he not look as though he's taking one of his 201 trudges back to the dugout last year?

I remember those horrible Pittsburgh Pirate uniforms...especially the caps. The Bumble Bees.

Booo.

I like both of the new unis. Quite a bit, actually. And as a gift to the board, here's a gif for y'all to use in future game threads.

My wife got me that warm-up jacket in 1987 for Christmas and I still have it although – cough cough – it has “shrunk” or somehow it has become a bit tighter on me.

Okay, so a lot less City Connect is a win. I am guessing select means any getaway Monday games or other hot weather games will be the whites, and we get a lot of city connect or road blue in cold weather.
