Maybe my profession has given me some experience and training on cyber attacks (Shout out, Jeff... iykyk)... Maybe the alarm bell has been ringing extra hard to the point where it was advised to alert friends and family. Maybe I see bad habits all over the internet that are leading people to get hit. Maybe even if somebody isn't worried about the effect on them, the mere fact that so many people fall for them empowers and funds the scammers and leads to new scams.

If you don't think foreign adversaries aren't behind many scams that are exploiting people and potentially bringing down systems, you aren't paying attention.

They don't even have to be adversaries.  Nigeria has some of the biggest scammers in the world and they are not an adversary of the United States.

I don't recall seeing him say this, but this is one of the dumbest things I've ever heard. Between working adjacent to the construction industry and with my son's extracurriculars (living in a community with a relatively high median income *and* low college attainment rate), there's no shortage of folks who have spent money on finished basements or spend time in their already finished basements.

It had to do with the economy and the stimulus checks... I made the comment that a lot of people who were fortunate enough to keep working during the early days of the pandemic found themselves saving money and then then getting an infusion of cash from those checks were spending money on projects and other things they normally might not have done... thus causing some of the inflation we saw... "you guys sit there in your finished basements while working people suffer" or something to that effect.

I read that while working in my non cubicle in my unfinished basement.

I've heard a lot of lines railing against elitism but man, that's the weakest. It's bad logic for a lot of reasons, but one of the reasons it's bad is the implication that working class people are inherently poor. That's just not the case...
