I got a flyer in the mail for a candidate for mayor of Boston-a real Trumper who vows to work with ICE... one look at his last name is enough to tell me that his family was probably less than welcome (to put it mildly) in this city. How quickly people forget. 

He has a snowball's chance in Dante's Inferno to make it to the general election, but still.

I have found, anecdotally, that folks from that part of the world make for the most ardent Trump supporters. I read that same thing as being true of people with roots in Germany, which is my people, which would explain some things. 😉

Operation Paperclip did result in a lot of German scientists being allowed into the US, and some of them had been doing work for the Nazis so.... yeah. It's definitely something to remember.

A great many of them moved to Metro Detroit and worked in the automotive industry.

Magnus von Braun -  Wernher's brother - was an executive at Chrysler in Macomb County. 

Many of them were still in the workforce in one capacity or another up until the 1980's.

This is why the whole fantasy of Trump being suddenly disgraced, falling out of power, and he and all the MAGA elite being publicly frog-marched to justice is just that: a fantasy. As with the traitorous southerners who were allowed back into national power in the late 19th century, and top Nazi scientists who fled to the US and were accepted into the economy and society here, there will be a spirit of reconciliation between the top MAGAs and the remaining American elite in the interest of reestablishing peace and normality, and the poison ideology would survive and merely evolve within whatever the new world would become.

Both of those took a bloody war to even get to that point. No guarantee the good guys prevail here.

And there are a lot more sophisticated tools at this regime's disposal. And just because everybody thinks Trump is dumber than a bag of rocks sure doesn't mean that nobody around him knows how to use those tools.

I’m older than most of you here, and I’m fairly certain I won’t see it, and will hope for all the younger here that their grandchildren will maybe see it happen.

I don't think the people around him politically are very smart either.  The real owners of this country are smart though and they know how to manipulate him. That group of tech billionaires that he met with the other day surely played him like a fiddle.

It only changes if the economic elites don’t benefit from it anymore. That’s the only way a bloodless coup could succeed. If things are going good for them but a change revolution emanates from the people, great numbers of people will die.

Unfortunately I feel like this is where we're headed. People are going to be dying already, or at least losing everything they have. As the old song goes, "when you have nothing, you have nothing to lose."
