Just don't think the picture is complete without this context. It's not like Cuomo was a rando running as an Independent

I was just looking at the exit polls in the Va Governor race. Spanberger dominated Sears in the minority voter results. Sears, not surprising edged the Democrat in the older demos which tend to skew Republican in the state. Sears also did well in the male vote, not really surprising. 
 

In the AG race Jones strong showing among minorities and the 18-44 age voters seemed to be the main difference.

I'm happy with the results but still somewhat skeptical of any long term impacts.  Been through to many "waves" that supposedly reshaped the electorate and doomed a party going forward.  It was an off year federal election wise.  I sure hope this time next year I'm feeling as good though.  It's a cliche to say it so far but as long as Trump is around I'm nervous about this country.  If we can get a D congress that goes away in a big way.

I'm not going to pretend I know the specific details of the hispanic/latino community in NYC, but as a whole, they tend to not like the words communist or socialist.  Mamdani easily winning that group shows the populist message he's giving resonates with them.  

As for Spanberger not only winning, but by such a margin, just shows how racist our society is still.  Oh wait, she's the white one?  Sorry, still a rookie at these DNC talking points and got ahead of myself.

I am not unhappy with the results last night.  I don't think it was that big of a deal to elect a few democrats in traditionally blue areas. I can see the spotlight being on them for future elections, especially the guy in NYC.  He will be the star of campaign ads for the GOP.

Re:Mamdani: the key for any mayor (or an exec for that matter) is whether he appoints based on competence or  politics. For instance, if he looks at the Mayoralty primarily to bootstrap people from DSA into prominence, he will likely fail. If he's hard headed about putting good people into civic management, he will likely succeed. 

It's no different than the way Trump consistently fails on policy - he has surrounded himself with a confederacy of dunces. Even if he were playing with a full deck, there is no way all the clowns around him can execute.

The huge turnout make comparisons to any recent history tricky. Mamdani got more votes (1036K) than any mayor since 1965, but Coumo also got more votes (854K) than any *winner* since Guliani. Looks like this was the largest turnout since 1969!

I see Archie is following the Party Line. How soon they forget that Virginia has, until January, a Republican Governor, Lt Governor, and Atty General. Also both houses of the legislator lean slightly Democratic, it's only by a few votes. Hardly what I'd call a blue state. Maybe solidly purple...
