Let him manage in the minors for a couple of years. I don't think we've seen the last of Jake Rogers playing for the Tigers, actually. I think he will be back. Quote

Now Outman probably should have been released but 🤷♂️ Send Valencia back down. Hanifee and his sub 4 SO/9 can go with him. Quote
casimir Posted July 28 Posted July 28 This thought occurred to me, and maybe it’s ridiculous, but none of you should be surprised. I kind of wonder if this move was made in part to shake up the clubhouse a bit and light a fire under some folks? I have since my earlier posting read the financial impact. So, ok, that’s probably a factor as well. But from a pure baseball sense, I don’t know. In addition to Valencia’s throwing game, there’s going to be learning a bunch of new pitchers, too. Quote
LongLiveMaroth Posted July 28 Posted July 28 This is a lot of outrage for a backup catcher and one that really wasn't lighting the world on fire with his bat or his defense. Valencia is younger, cheaper, and while yes his defense leaves something to be desired you're what dealing with that once every 4-5 days but his bat is clearly an upgrade which for all the people complaining about the offense you may have to sacrifice one for the other. 1 Quote

Valiant effort in June and July to get back in it... but just not quite enough. Time to start retooling for next year. ???? The Tigers are within a handful of games of the wildcard and you just wanna give up? With over 50 games to go? Did you even pay attention to the AL Central the last 2 seasons? Quote

Salary driven maybe? if so a measure that Harris didn’t leave ghimself enough room to maneuver. If Jake doesn't get claimed, aren't the Tigers on the hook for his entire salary? No payroll relief? Tenacious D Posted July 28 Posted July 28 I don’t believe he was waived—Tigers have a period of time to try and trade him or pass him through waivers. Or I might be clueless. Paging Dr. Edman, Dr. Edman 1 Quote

MLB contracts pretty much guaranteed. Ed could probably find us some exceptions, but i don’t think there are any for just cutting a vet. If you make a trade then the salary goes with him. Unclaimed, he becomes a FA and a new team can pay him the league minimum and we pay the rest of his agreed contract. So no real relief in that scenario. But if he's claimed by some team, they take on his entire contract. Real payroll relief. At least, thats how it used to be, I think? 🤫🤫 Quote

I'm not outraged by the move at all, but I did really like the guy. Solid backup. Only thing salvagable from that horrible Al Avila trade. What are Daz Cameron and Franklin Perez up to these days? Edman85 Posted July 29 Posted July 29 (edited) DFA... The DFA window is 7 days. The waiver period is two days, and you can't be traded while on waivers... So... if they want to trade Rogers, it will need to be by Sunday afternoon. If somebody claims him on waivers, they get the contract. Because he is over 5 years, he can just say no and force his release if they try to outright him to Toledo. Edited July 29 by Edman85 Quote
Tenacious D Posted July 29 Posted July 29 No one wants to see this team lose, but when your bullpen is blowing more opportunities than they save, why would anyone think that will improve? You could add Mason Miller and unless he can pitch the 6-9 innings in most games, there isn’t much to be optimistic about. Quote
Tenacious D Posted July 29 Posted July 29 Is Melton technically a rookie this season? If so, he’s pitching his way into the AL ROY discussion. Quote
