Between a lost year of wages and seniority and the harm to the game it would be a disaster for them. The owners would suffer too but they would have a chance long term to recoup their losses. This seems accurate to me. The labor side in sports leagues is unusual. Within the player population, interests diverge and in many cases significantly, e.g., a rookie with his future in mind, who will want best possible terms v. Mgmt, on one hand, and a veteran entering the last year of a lucrative (overpay) contract, who will want to get paid above all else, on the other. Quote
NorthWoods Posted August 1 Posted August 1 Hopefully this is a sign that Harris can evaluate prospects. Quote

It's a clean, fair, sustainable system and with the owners agreeing to revenue sharing among the themselves, it should not be a hard for all parties to get to 'yes'. Quote

Fan Duel would never allow the season to be significantly reduced or lost. Quote

It would seem the majority of the players - the middle and lower class - would be smart enough to outvote the 5-10% getting the huge contracts. But then again what's the saying about never underestimating the stupidity of people? I fully understand paying for stars but I think most sports need at least some leveling of the income stratas....It's absurd when 10% of your team has 50% of the income. Quote

Why would baseball be any different? Quote

This has been the case with the player population in the past also and in the end, it is always the owners who break first. Somehow, the players are able to stay aligned more than the owners. I do think it may be starting to change a bit in recent years so this is going to be interesting. Quote

1984Echoes Posted August 3 Posted August 3 Especially if they could just leave him at 3B... Good for him (on his July...). Quote

He needs to put together a full good season to be considered part of the core. Core players are not guys that are easily replaceable/upgradeable. Quote

casimir Posted August 5 Posted August 5 I know losing Skubal and Mize is tough. But they’re only 2.5 GB. Why can’t they beat the odds and make the playoffs? It’s baseball. Wacky stuff happens all the time. Quote
casimir Posted August 5 Posted August 5 Going forward, I would be giving most of Torres’ time at DH, or at least as much as I could. If they’ve kept him, if they’re close enough to make a playoff push, if they have plenty of other 2B options, they might as well try to keep Torres as healthy and productive as possible and allow for guys like Keith and Lee to get time in the field.
