thanks. would he earn service time on IL?

Max Clark probably isn't getting sent down, but he is a 2026 Tiger, so an IL stint is a possibility to preserve his rookie eligibility.

He would, but rookie eligibility is based on active service time. Why River Ryan is rookie eligible despite having 1 year, 70 days of service.

In the meantime, his sub-.200 BABIP can't be sustainable, can it?

no, he'll regress some, but he has some room to regress and still be an easy number 1.

Jansen quote.....I like this from him.

“If you’re going to worry about that stuff, you’re going to feel miserable,” Jansen said. “I’m not going to do that. It’s unfortunate we lost two great guys. But did the lineup change? Tell me, did the lineup change? The lineup is the same. Did the bullpen change? The bullpen didn’t change.

Detroit Tigers Tickets: Buy tickets to see the Detroit Tigers this season.

“At the end of the day, who plays the most? It’s the lineup and the bullpen.”

it meshes to the larger point that starting pitchers are not as important as they used to be.

Peter Chase is the Baseball Communications Director for the Detroit Tigers. It's in his job description to seek out and report esoteric stats like this, no matter how nonsensical.

It's our job to point out how nonsensical it is.

Being from the Indianapolis area so a native midwesterner, it wouldn't shock me if he and the wife settle in here that they decide to stay long term.

Then again you never know what drives people.

Getting married at an early age could be another sign.

Having Skubal going for Game 5 of the ALDS last year was a massive advantage. But it wasn't a guarantee either... remember thinking that at the time.

In a best of 5 series you are told you win 2 games, and Skubal starts two more.... I like those odds.

But.

i think the April, June, July, and so far August versions of this team is the real team - not great, but a good, solid team, and easily the best in the ALC. if they keep this up for 8 more weeks, they can make the playoffs. just need some health luck and a fluke 2-3 wins.

Assuming a starting pitcher goes 6 innings per start, they only contribute 13% of the typical innings pitched within every 5 games. Skubal and Mize leaving means we need to address their 26% of innings every turn.  Less of a concern during the season, but much larger issue in shorter playoff series.

I've said all season that this team needed a leadership change so honestly I see this changeover as a good thing.

From the Athletic:

There is a void in the Tigers clubhouse, make no mistake. Much of this team’s heart and soul is gone. But the game moves on, sometimes in cold and cruel fashion. Others must pick up the slack as best they can.
“I think that’s the special thing about this clubhouse,” Torkelson said the morning after the Skubal trade. “There is no one ringleader. It’s leadership by committee. I think that’s going to help us in a situation like this.”

Who wrote this drivel?  Skubal and Mize were the heart and soul?  I don’t buy that.  I get that there would be a reaction anytime you sell players, but this seems overly dramatic.

I would think they’d have a stronger reaction to Jake Rogers leaving who was frequently cited for his leadership and personality.

Another thing worth considering, although kind of a non-issue is that the more high school guys we draft, the earlier in their lives they hit free agency.  It’ll be interesting to see how the CBA and draft rules play out.

Greene and Tork will be 27 and 29 respectively when they hit free agency.   If they don’t end up allowing High School kids to be drafted like some seem to think, that’s a huge plus for the owners when guys aren’t hitting free agency at all until they’re 30

Interesting in that I saw Colt Keith's postgame interview with Danielle and when she asked about going forward after the trade he only mentioned "it's tough without Casey".

I get the impression that Clark is not the type to sign an extenson which goes beyond free agency, but we don't really know these guys.

If it is anything like McG's contract, he would be a fool not to.  So much can happen in six years, and most of it bad for a baseball career.

This is a fun offbeat stat and I like it as much as the next guy, but to me, the more important stat is that since June 1, we are averaging 5.5 runs per game, second only to the Rockies and Cubs.

Feels like this right here is the thing we’ve been missing so far this season.
