But it’s not as though the guy is banging down the door. There always a chance any call-up surprises to the upside, but Trei’s skill set and age strongly suggest he won’t be one of them. But it’ll be fun to see how he does coming out of the gate. And I'm always happy to see one of these lifers to get a shot. It has to be so fulfilling to finally get the the Show. I hope he tears it up enough to get a shot with some team(s) for a 4-5 year utility career at least. Quote

I think he also was having a very nice spring and was in various discussions among the sophisticates as having a chance to break camp with the team. But it is 2026 so he became injured. He definitely had a long road to the majors and was looming like a flop for a long time. I think if he were healthy, he would have been the first one called up when the injuries started. Last year might have been a fluke, but their roster decisions indicated that he caught their eye. 1 Quote
Sports_Freak Posted June 19 Posted June 19 I just saw some Lee highlights. He's been pretty hot since he came back. Do stats support that statement? I know I like his defense at 2nd base. Quote
Tigermojo Posted June 19 Posted June 19 Yep. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2026/06/justin-verlander-to-miss-several-weeks-with-hamstring-strain.html Quote
tiger2022 Posted June 19 Posted June 19 They are just trying to not to embarrass Verlander at this point. I always assumed the plan was to let him pitch a few games, find out he was "injured" and stick him on the IL until the end of the season and give him one or two starts at home so the fans can cheer him off into the sunset. Sports_Freak Posted June 19 Posted June 19 How much money has been wasted on these old pitchers? It's almost...comical. Quote
Sports_Freak Posted June 19 Posted June 19 On second thought, we have a better chance to win with Montero getting the start. Quote

monkeytargets39 Posted June 19 Posted June 19 Wenceel Perez has an orbital fracture. That’ll be a 60 Day DL trip. Just add Malgeri and call him up. Quote
Motor City Sonics Posted June 19 Posted June 19 Remember this year when I said that the Dodgers were paying 60 mil a year for Kyle Tucker, who's only slightly better than Bobby Higginson and you all jumped all over me - called me crazy. Age 26-20 comparison - 162 game averages Player 1 29.3 HR 100.4 RBI .272 BA .373 OBP .865 OPS 290 TB 108.1 K 95.7 BB +132 OPS+ Player 2 27.0 HR 95.9 RBI .284 BA .366 ,856 OPS 299 TB 100.8 K 77.8 BB +121 OPS+ Player 1 played on a World Series-caliber team with several All Stars in the lineup in a homer-happy ballpark. Player 2 played for a bad Tiger team with a bunch of has-beens or never-was's in a canyon. Quote

Not to be flip here, but there’s a chance this might be it for his career. A.J. did say he was “pretty concerned” for him, which means it’s really serious. Quote

It was made to sound like it hit him below the eye, so hopefully no damage to the eye itself Quote

I walk 2.5 to 3 miles a day and half of it is uphill so for someone who’s 74 that’s not too bad. It’s raining today, though might be some of the last rain we see in this part of Idaho for months, so when it stops I’ll go out today. I’ll probably be walking when the game begins. Six runs etc., etc.… 1 Quote

IdahoBert Posted June 21 Posted June 21 I packed away my Verlander shirt nine years ago when he was traded and also stopped wearing my Tigers cap on the right simply because I no longer felt the need to self identify 24/7. Today I went to the mall and bought a new hat. It’s like that lyric from Crosby Stills Nash and Young, because “I feel like I owe it to someone.“ Damn, that disease I contracted at the age of eight in 1960 never completely goes away. The sales clerk asked me which sport the Tigers were, which saddened me. But she spent a considerable amount of time helping me find the right fit, and we must’ve gone through 15 caps. Hey, she needs a job. I know what that’s like. GO TIGERS! 😍 Quote
