Stanford Boy had Jones batting third yesterday and Short starting in the same lineup.    That's a White Flag lineup there.  That's surrender.    I really don't think Malgeri, Max Anderson, Jace Jung and Corey Julks could not be worse than Perez, Short and Torkelson right now.    Might as well throw Vierling in that group too.   This was his chance to prove something.   He has failed.  They've all failed.

Uhhh...I would say we lost that game because our BP couldn't hold a late lead. Riley did take strike 3 but it should never have gotten to the bottom of the 9th. And in extras, Hinch already used his top 3 relievers in a failed bid to hold a lead so he had to bring in an ineffective Holton. Ballgame

but what do you do when they guys that are supposed to be your offensive leader have stupid AB. Swing the damn bat and defend the plate when you are down 2 strikes and there is a man on 2nd. That kind of thing isn't a so much even a matter of talent - it's lack of game IQ.

you could, and the BP has certainly been less than stellar overall, but OTOH, on more general principle I'm not going to knock a pitching staff that give up one run to Cleveland in 9 innings.

Riley taking strike 3 was horrible. And so was Hinch's use of his better arms in the BP. And McKinstry getting picked off 2nd base. Inexcusable, all of them. I wouldn't just lay the blame on Riley. Like I said, IMO, it should never even have come down to a bottom of the 9th situation.

The Dark Cloud is that this will leave a bitter taste for all of us - and we wont have a season in 2027 to rinse it out

 

The Silver Lining is - now they don't have to fret about keeping or trading Skubal.   The question now is - Can Harris get a better haul than Avila did for J.D. and J.V. ?

That's is certainly something that has always been arguable with Hinch - he does not seem to believe in short term trends at all. He's a long 'track record' guy all the way. I don't know if there is a mathematical right or wrong on the issue because different players have different kinds of performance/consistency arcs.
