(Cobb also did it at 18/19.) HOWEVER - if you go to the game log breakdown, it is true that he only had 92 hits in his 1st 100 games in his 1st full season, his finished strong to bring the total for the season up to 139 in 138 games. So even excluding his age 18 season McGonigle is ahead of him now. Of course, by his game 138 he may have fallen behind Kaline's pace - which is the kind of thing that you get with cherry picked stats. Not that it matters, but the requirement wasn't over 1 hit per game the first season, it was more than 100 hits in less than 100 games. Quote

In the late 90s at Tiger Stadium they had some leather lungs dudes who would just harass the team for any bad thing that happened. "Get the Broom for Groom!" comes to mind as a bit of joy. I also remember bleacher fans harassing any visiting outfielder who made more than league average. Throwing coins at Reggie Jackson when he was there in the 80s. Might be players these days are better about managing their anger. Quote

SoCalTiger Posted July 20 Posted July 20 So we won two out of three this weekend but did not move up in the standings. Looks like seven behind the White Sox and 5 behind the Guardians in the loss column for the division and 6 ahead of us in the wild card. We went 7-3 the last ten and picked up one game. If we are in the same spot next Monday are we still all in ? More important is Scot Harris ? Quote

In the last 10, we picked up 1 game on the White Sox, 2 on the Guardians, 1 on Minnesota, 1 on NYY, 3 on Seattle, 4 on Houston, 3 on Toronto. We were even with Baltimore and lost 3 on Boston. We pulled even with 2 teams (Toronto and Houston) and now are down to 4 teams from the Wild Card. - 4.5 games, and 5.5 games from the 2nd Wild Card. Yes, if we win 5 out of the next 7 by next Monday, I think there is no doubt Harris is still all in. Then next Monday, we have 3 with Baltimore who currently is ahead of us by 2.5. We still have 6 games with Cleveland, 7 with the White Sox, the 3 mentioned with Baltimore, and 3 with Minnesota, so they still control their destiny. 1 Quote

Quote Much of the press supported Cobb, stating that he had been a target for fan abuse in every ballpark the Tigers visited.[20] The entire Georgia congressional delegation, including both senators, sent Cobb a telegram applauding his actions.[21] Johnson summoned Cobb to the league president's hotel room on the evening of May 15 and asked the player for his version of events. Cobb recounted the epithet regarding his ancestry and stated that when a spectator called him that, "I think it is about time to fight".[13] Johnson was aghast at Cobb's defense.[13] Quote

True. But a big part of the reason that is significant thing is the player starting out at a young age and hitting the ground running. That's the only real point to picking out 100 hits in a 100 games. Edited July 20 by gehringer_2 Quote
