All of those would be pretty disappointing for someone like Skubal.  Those are likely to be traded in lesser deals.

I agree . I could see Fischer being the second piece in a deal with the Brewers. Otherwise they fit with Mize.

Yeah I have no interest in any of the guys listed aside from Bodine—especially if they’re the primary piece.    It’s like they choose to ignore handedness, the teams philosophy Harris has been going after, and what the timeline is on some of these guys.  Bodine isn’t enough to headline a Skubal deal because it doesn’t even really hurt the Rays system that badly to move him.

There are multiple teams who should be in on Skubal who have AA or AAA guys that fit directly into what we need and are trying to do.  That needs to be the standard for Harris here.

It has to be Sirota from the Dodgers if they are to obtain Skubal.

Nothing less.

Not Hope, not Tibbs.

Yes.

I think Logan Henderson needs to headline a trade for Skubal if it's the Brewers. Fischer the 2nd piece... Harris can figure out the rest...

One more thing that does play to our advantage is that we are still competitive and aren’t going to rebuild—so we don’t HAVE to move anyone.  Harris doesn’t have his back against a wall in an obvious sell off.  Opposing GMs can’t really play the low-ball game with us like they did Avila in the JV and JD trades.

I would prefer Quintero over Sirota personally, couple years younger, has power, speed, and discipline. Someone who could stay in CF long term. While I wouldn't hate Hope it would be a little odd given his high K rate.

Fischer just has such a large K rate. I know he has the power but 127K's already which could be exacerbated once he gets up into the higher levels.

We almost certainly have scouts at all potential trade suitors.  I wouldn’t read into that too much.

I'm sure, just posting it as I saw it come across my feed.

They could give us both since we’d basically be gifting them a World Series.  Throw in Gleyber and get those two and one of their lefty arms at the back of their top 10.

So what's the consensus... are we selling? Honestly I have no faith in this team being able to consistently play well. There's just too many times when the offense slumps... too many holes in the roster... too many questionable pitchers.

Sure, if everything lines up nicely and the Tigers get hot at the right time they could not only make the playoffs, but even make a run in the playoffs. But I wouldn't bet on it. I think it's time to sell personally.

I don’t think there is consensus. Without knowing what any offers are for Skubal or others, it’s just too vague. I think the split with KC makes selling more likely, but only a little. I don’t see a big sell for the sake of selling.

It's a strange season.  They should not be in the race given how they have played this year, but the league is so mediocre that they still have a decent shot (32% according to fangraphs).  I won't get upset if the sell creatively, but I am still focused on the games.

In my opinion they should sell no matter what, at the very least Skubal, Mize and Torres who could get decent returns. Ask yourself what does this team do really well that gives you confidence in a postseason run? They haven’t closed out close games well offensively or defensively with the bullpen blowing more late leads than anyone else. They don’t play good defense and 1/3 of the lineup every game doesn’t challenge pitchers. The only thing they do really well is starting pitching. Just too flawed for me to be bullish on their playoff chances.

If you can do better then a comp pick for Mize and Skubal you do it. If you can get a potential piece for the next couple seasons for the rest of the expiring contracts or option year players then you take it. Regroup with some money to spend on your flaws and additional young players for the next couple years and the organization will be much healthier overall.

Remember the last time that the Tigers sold at the deadline?   They got rid of several average, underperforming guys and brought in some hungry young guys that wanted to win and had something to prove.  That turned out pretty well in 2024.  Could they pull that off again?  Sure, why not?  They just have to move on from the right guys.  I'm not sure who that is for sure.  But moving on from Jones and Perez was a start.

The 2027 rotation is going to be complete trash.

Melton looks like a top of the line starter, but after that...

Valdez, hopefully he can pull things together and at least be a competent #3 starter.

Montero is up and down.  Management doesn't seem like they have a lot of confidence in him amd that's why he keeps going from the rotation and the bullpen.

After that?  Jobe is coming back but I don't see how they can pencil him in for a full season.  Olson is probably done with a shoulder injury.

Skubal is not signing with Detroit.  I have a feeling Mize will leave too.  Will they make a push for Flaherty?

The FA pitchers is pretty thin.  I would think they need 3 more starters.  Do they pull the trigger and try to pick up a guy like Reid Detmers or Jose Soriano in a trade?

Those guys are fairly cheap and under team control for a few years.  They'd have to give up something in value and would the Angels be willing to trade them because they are cheap and under team control for a few years.

There doesn't look to be much help in the minors for pitching

I hope the Tigers aren't relying on Harris to sign more often injured and underperforming starters for $12 to $15 million a year.  Barry Singer, Tyler Mahle, David Peterson seem like perfect candidates for Harris.  I could see him trying to sign a guy like Tiajuan Walker or Jameson Taillon.

I have zero confidence in Harris to even bring in mediocre or slightly below average players.

This is great news!   Those are NOT the players we want.

He should be fine bringing in average to above average players then.

He must be a hell of a poker player because he sure hasn't tipped his hand in four years that he is competent in bringing in average to above average pitchers.

Charlie Morton, Chris Paddack, Justin Verlander, Alex Cobb, Kenta Maeda, Framber Valdez, Jack Flaherty, Jose Urquidy, Matthew Boyd, Dietrich Enns... he sure has a track record of bringing in quality performers. 0.4 WAR out of those guys with Detroit.  And that's with Flaherty with 3.5.

I’m not convinced that Mize is gone (if we don’t trade him at the deadline). Tigers will certainly offer him a QO.  And he may accept—he’ll get $22M and teams might be reluctant to sign him and give up a pick.  He’s been very good when healthy this year, but has a spotty overall track record.  Will teams give up 4-5 years, $80-100M in free agency?  One thing working against us is that he seems to be a bit salty with the organization.
