Seeing all those young guys listed there does spark more hope. Prior to Greene, how many decent position player prospects did Detroit develop? Castellanos. Higgy. Fryman. Inge. Only a handful back to the late 70s early 80s

Granderson, but point made.

For a decade now, back to 2017, River Ryan has pitched as many as 60 innings one time. 2023 he pitched 104 innings. Second highest is 52. To think he pops into the starting rotation is dreaming large. I think back end of bullpen is more realistic

He was a hitter until 2023 and missed most of 24/25 due to tommy john. His latest setback is a hammy. They'll stretch him out as a starter and see where it goes. He has starter attributes.

People always forget about Granderson for some reason.

Ironic because he had a very active p.r. agent, including right here on this board (or more precisely, its pre-decessor).

I've read that good teams are built up the middle. Lee, McGonigle, Clark and Dingler may be a great start to a winning team. Build a bullpen....easier said than done.

LOL -

Miguel was a fat guy that should not have been fat. Thome was just thick. I see the comparison to Puckett but to me Hope looks more like Bo Jackson than Puckett, he's got a running back's body. Funny thing is that I was the guy that thought Mike Trout (also thick build) might be prone to go fat when I first saw him. Trout's had terrible injury luck but not because he didn't control his weight.

Miguel also looked a lot different at 20 than he did at 30.  My concern with Hope would be that he already has a 30 year old's look.  As other's have said though, 30 is still a long ways away for him.  That is a worry for another day.  I doubt his weight will be any factor for at least a few years.  Just something to watch.

Say what you will about the situation, I don't think he is manufacturing this kind of emotion. Nobody will ever convince me that he didn't want to stay in Detroit. Maybe will choose not to sign a new contract before the lockout and will come back after.

the problem for Skubal is that like almost all of us, he wants things that are incompatible. He wants to stay in Detroit, he wants to set a FA contract benchmark, he wants to support his union by pushing management as far as possible. He wants all those things honestly, emotionally, and simultaneously. But they can't all coexist in the same universe. In the final analysis though it was his choice to decide whatever offer the Tigers had on the table was not enough. So what he wanted more is what he gets.

Pretty sound psychoanalysis.  Are you taking new clients?  Asking for a friend.

what is taking them so long to trade Mize......... Get it over with already. Lets see who we get!

I think it’s 50/50 he’s dealt. We had to trade Skubal, but that’s not the case with Mize.

We can keep him in the pursuit of the postseason and offer him the QO, which he might take. And if he doesn’t, we get another high pick and the increased pool $.

I hope Harris holds him unless he’s overwhelmed.

90-95 MPH Fastball, reportedly a very good splitter, above average slider, Develop the curve a bit more and turn him into a closer.

If we keep Mize, we'll need Flaherty back ASAP. Pitching chaos until he's back for our 5th SP. Or use Drew Anderson? Anybody in Toledo?

If they keep. I’ve, they’ll need Flaherty back ASAP?  I’m not getting the logic there.  It seems like getting Flaherty back ASAP would be best to continue the playoff chase.

I think Mize and Torres are staying unless they get an offer they can't refuse

Well, if it’s based strictly on compensation picks, I’d be comfortable offering Mize the qualifying offer whereas Torres is ineligible.

As far as trying to get into the playoffs, that changes the math a bit.

In addition to that, I think there’s more IF depth than there is SP depth to work with.

So, put it all together, if I were in charge, I’m looking for more in return for Mize than I am for Torres.

Actually averaging around 98 on his 4 seamer and 95 on his 2seam

No reason to keep Mize at all. I Guarantee you we can get more than a comp pick value for him. Move him, move Torres and then anyone else we possibly can........

?  This isn’t a fire sale or rebuild.  Why are we trading everyone, again?

Something about a time continuum and flux capacitors.

What is the point in keeping this team together? There's like a .000000001% chance they win the WS this year.... Why not increase your chances for the next 5 years by getting back a top 100 prospect for a rental that means literally jack squat for the rest of the year? Move em all. Mize and Torres are worth WAY MORE to be TRADED than to stay on this team. Trade them now and look at next year and beyond. The Dodgers, Brewers, Rays, Braves are all on another level compared to the rest of the league. Don't waste the rest of this year. No point. Get stuff we can use for the next 5 years. 0 Point in keeping these guys.

Yeah, I just meant they need a 5th SP. Trading Mize, there isnt a replacement. Montero, Melton and Valdez. Eventually, maybe Jobe? And a bullpen day? Getting Flaherty back would make trading Mize easier, I guess.
