It feels like the Tigers stole a win last night. ESPN keeps showing Bregman swinging at ball 4 that could have won the game but instead ended the 9th inning. But....is there anybody available in the bullpen tonight? Bringing an arm up from Toledo?

Only the speed of Bregman's reflexes to get out of way saved Kenley from losing the game on the 1st pitch of that AB.  It's playing with fire every time Hinch brings him in.

He is such a crap shoot. I’d avoid pitching him in leverage situations on the road, when we don’t have another at-bat. Of course, that can be said of almost anyone in the pen.

Of course Hinch can't do that. We signed Jansen for that exact purpose, he succeeded last night, so he will get another chance, maybe even before they leave town.

Succeeded in spite of himself would be to put it more accurately.

That's fine, and I can't disagree. All I am saying is they're not going to hire and pay the guy like they are, and then sit him completely during leverage situations until he blows way more games in a row than he has.

Fact is, Hinch has reduced the use of Jansen during high leverage situations of late due to his struggles, but Jansen's success yesterday—whether in spite of himself or not—will probably lead Hinch to increasingly inject him into those situations in the coming games, until Jansen proves he can't handle it.

Remember how we were told that Kevin McGonigle would be a defensive liability? That might be true soon and in the long run, but as long as he has his 21-year-old athleticism, his defense will probably be at its height. As of today, McGonigle is both 10th among overall shortstops at 3 DRS (451.1 innings), and ninth among third basemen with 4 DRS (385 innings). He is, of course, leading the team quite handily at both positions.

This is why I don't think there will be any rush to move him to 2nd.  With Lee (and Anderson) as options at 2nd, but the best long term options at SS and 3rd likely 2028 at the earliest (Rainer) and later, they will keep him on the left side.

I think most of the questions were around his arm not really his glove or reaction time. I do think he’s limited at SS and even at third as the arm is stretched a little bit although good enough and should be for awhile for a few seasons with how young he is.  Where he is making up for it is he does a good job of getting into throwing position quickly and seems to make good decisions when attacking the ball defensively. Also I have been pleasantly surprised by the accuracy of his throws.

I still say he should be at 2nd for the long term but with our current organizational makeup of players he will probably be split between 3rd and SS for the foreseeable future.

yup.  His quickness getting rid of the ball is worth a few mph missing from the throwing velo. all that matters is total time to the 1B’s glove. i don’t think he has great range, but again, the great first step gets him to hard hit balls other guys with more range on a slower hit ball might not get.

Very true. I think we stole it for sure. Between the strike out, Hoerner's error, and not scoring with the bases loaded.... Sheesh.

I don’t know if the manager or Harris is responsible for guys that are getting injured all the time then coming back, and players themselves being notoriously streaky.
