smr-nj Posted October 23 Posted October 23 So, I moved outta Jersey two weeks ago, (so far, so good….. cat acclimated by day 2, it took me a little longer), and I realized this morning that Halloween is next Friday…. So, I went to my neighborhood grocery chain and bought the BIG bag of assorted candy (m&m’s, Reese’s, etc) because I have NO idea whether my new little block gets a lot of trick-or-treaters, a few trick-or-treaters, no trick-or-treaters. But for sure, the last thing I wanted to do was get stuck with no candy here and have the whole new neighborhood complex Talk about the new chick from Jersey who’s a “cheap ass son of a bitch to Halloween trick-or-treaters”. 😱 I am kinda hoping there will be some come around because I do love to see the costumes & happy faces — or sometimes the totally confused tiny faces of first time trick-or-treaters. So cute 😊 2 Quote
Dan Gilmore Posted October 23 Posted October 23 I can relate. I moved to a new neighborhood since last Halloween and stocked up in case there are lots of kids. Quote
CMRivdogs Posted October 23 Posted October 23 Five years here and really don't know what to expect. Whether more kids from other nearby neighborhoods or the usual relatively low (under 25) number of kids we've had since we moved in. On the other hand we'll be traveling all next week and won't be home, my sister is dog sitting at our house and I don't want to leave her empty handed. Last year I was tempted to give out "Halloween Ducks" especially younger kids. Thought about kazoos as well. Quote
Biff Mayhem Posted October 23 Posted October 23 We have kids at the far end of the neighborhood and across the street. It’s really hit and miss. I will usually stand outside in an inflatable baymax costume to greet the kids, but if it’s cold, we don’t get many kids at all so I’ll just be inside. Quote
CMRivdogs Posted October 23 Posted October 23 I wanted to hand out glasses of wine to parents a couple of years ago. Unfortunately the spouse nixed it. Quote

Deleterious Posted October 24 Posted October 24 The company that makes the ladder truck used in the Louvre heist used it as an advertisement. How the Louvre jewel robbery gave a German ladder firm a golden lift Quote The company's management superimposed the slogan over a crime scene photo. “When you need to move fast,” the caption reads, "the Böcker Agilo transports your treasures weighing up to 400kg at 42m/min — quiet as a whisper." 2 Quote

Definitely a house down the street that hands out nips to parents as they come by. It's very welcome at that point in the journey. 1 Quote
oblong Posted October 25 Posted October 25 I miss that. We had one guy who grilled hot dogs and had beer for the adults. I know it ranks below ball park hot dogs, everything does, but I think trick or treating hot dogs are higher than Home Depot hot dogs. 1 Quote
Deleterious Posted October 26 Posted October 26 The escape is always harder than the heist itself. The moment they left the museum, at least thirty cameras were probably already tracking them. Quote
oblong Posted October 27 Posted October 27 My algorithm is triggered by Melissa hitting Jamaica. Started last week when the resort I follow started posting stuff. We went for our honeymoon in 1998 and have always said we’d go back for our 10th then our 20th then our 25th… but we always want to go someplace new. Tbese poor peoole. Quote

My friend from Cuba, who has been working hard to get his permanent residency here, still had a wife and child there, as well as his parents. He reports they lost furniture but otherwise the housing structure is OK, and thankfully, so are they. Very scary time for a guy living in a foreign land separated from his family. 1 Quote
Deleterious Posted October 31 Posted October 31 Just get on with it and tell me what the rate hike will be. Quote
CMRivdogs Posted November 1 Posted November 1 We’ve spent the last week cruising in the Canadian Maritimes. Atlantic Time, one hour ahead of EDT, last night we reentered EDT, however ship time stayed on Atlantic time until this morning when we turned the clocks ahead. My semi intelligent watch decided to skip ahead early. Back in Boston officially tomorrow where we enter standard time. Does anybody really know what time it is Quote
oblong Posted November 2 Posted November 2 As I mentioned elsewhere I’m in Pittsburgh this weekend. What an amazing and underrated city. All the surrounding neighborhoods reminds me of places like west village and midtown and Hamtramck but without the gentrification. It’s just been this way for 120 years. All kinds of people just mixed together and living their lives. Tons of cool shops and stores but you get the vibe they have been in that spot for a long time. Definitely suggest going. 1 Quote

I guess they are not necessarily great to live in or maintain, but there are a ton of the most beautiful stone houses in the Pittsburgh environs. Quote
Deleterious Posted Wednesday at 12:30 AM Posted Wednesday at 12:30 AM Heads up if you bought a new car from LaFontaine. Quote
Screwball Posted Wednesday at 01:38 AM Posted Wednesday at 01:38 AM Maybe 8 years ago me and the Boss went to Pittsburgh for a baseball game. Bought tickets early and had great seats. Stayed at the hotel down on the island between the baseball park and the football park. Really neat area. All kinds of shops, food places, bars. We were lucky enough to see it the start of the game in daylight, and then after dark. It is a truly beautiful park and area. If you ever get the chance, don't miss it. One of the beauties of this trip, was the trip. We had all day to get there as we couldn't check in until 4, so we took the scenic route. Since I live in mid NW Ohio, we went South and took 30 East. We had an old - un-updated Garmin - and at some point ran out of road. No more 30. 21 miles of hills on a 2 lane winding road to get back to society. Found a town called Paris. Told the Boss - see, I told you I would take you to Paris someday. She wasn't amused. It got better. Once back on the correct route, now maybe even late, we go through the panhandle of West Virginia. Two lane highway through a small town, on a curve, there is a sign beside the road. 8 x 10 piece of plywood done with spray paint that said - FAR WOOD That was worth the trip right there. Wish I had gotten a picture. 2 Quote

Quote LaFontaine spokesperson Max Muncey in a statement described the violation as a "clerical error" and said the business "immediately began working closely with state officials to review internal processes, correct documentation, and ensure full compliance moving forward." The dealership's license will remain suspended until it reaches an agreement with state regulators, Michigan Department of State spokesperson Cheri Hardmon said in an email. Regulators identified LaFontaine's latest alleged violations while checking its compliance under a 2024 agreement with the state for the same issue at its Livonia dealership. Quote
Deleterious Posted Wednesday at 03:33 AM Posted Wednesday at 03:33 AM Sounds like they were selling loaner vehicles as new. Some with as much as 6,000 miles on them. Quote

Or do they just con people, or are there people who sign on the dotted line before they sit in the car they are going to buy? I guess maybe.....The world is getting to be too weird.
