Deleterious Posted November 15, 2025 Posted November 15, 2025 The guy on the video was probably from Flint. Or at the very least, he was mixing terms from Flint and Detroit style coneys. A true Flint style coney uses something called coney sauce, and It's made by Abbott's Meat, a local meat provider/butcher. Places will add things to provide their own touch, but all true Flint style coneys start with a base of Abbott Meat's coney sauce. Abbott's just closed down after over 100 years in business. So Koegels has picked up the torch and is now making the sauce. https://www.amazon.com/Abbotts-Hotdog-Coney-Sauce-4lbs/dp/B00FA8NKCM 1 Quote
oblong Posted November 15, 2025 Posted November 15, 2025 If anyone in the area wants good coneys a good place is Joes Top Dogs in east Dearborn. Doesn’t get mentioned like those 2 downtown or Duly’s but it’s just as good. Quote
oblong Posted November 15, 2025 Posted November 15, 2025 I was second guessing myself and asked my wife and she confirmed chili and not coney sauce. Quote

Mr.TaterSalad Posted Tuesday at 08:32 PM Posted Tuesday at 08:32 PM (edited) I had dinner with a friend the other day down in Dearborn at Sheeba Yemini restaurant. We went to the newer restaurant in West Dearborn, not the original one in East Dearborn. I know that Middle Eastern food and all the variants that come with it from Egyptian, Iraqi, Lebanese, Palestinian, Syrian, Yemini, etc. aren't uniquely Detroit. I know by now lots of other metro areas in the country have restaurants that serve Middle Eastern food of some variety, from one of the aforementioned countries. But no other region has it as good as we do. We have such a plethora of amazing Middle Eastern restaurants from so many different countries and regions in that part of the world. Throw a rock across the street in Metro Detroit and chances are you'll hit a building or strip mall that has a restaurant serving faatoosh, falafal, ghallaba, shwarma, tabooli, and so much more. We really are spoiled around here with some amazing ethnic cuisines from around the world. In the case of Middle Eastern food, I barely even think of it as that anymore. I think of all of those foods as just American and Detroit staples. I want a chicken or lamb shawarma for lunch as much and as often as I'd want a burger or a coney dog. oblong Posted yesterday at 06:11 PM Posted yesterday at 06:11 PM I certainly take it for granted and especially when going to other parts of the country. My only problem is it's hard to find one that serves alcohol. La Pita here does. There's a Sahara down near Comerica park that has a nice bar. To me that knocks it down from a nice dinner to just casual food. I do have a friend that has a place, I won't say which, who will give me a Corona while I wait for my carry out. He doesn't sell it. He trades food with a bar down the street and they give him a case of beer. A lot of it is religious as a lot of Muslims will not/cannot go to a place that serves alcohol. Next time you come try Malek Al Kabob. 1 Quote
Mr.TaterSalad Posted 23 hours ago Posted 23 hours ago I've been to Malek Al-Kabob many times. My favorite is the original LaShish next to the gentleman's club in East Dearnborn. Quote

It's been replaced by 2Booli we ate there a bit when we used in the area. I miss the Chicken Ghallaba. Nothing here close to that Quote
oblong Posted 16 hours ago Posted 16 hours ago The owner of LaShish fled the country years ago on terrorism charges. At some point former employees got the name and opened up what has essentially become a chain of Lashish places around the area. In some cases the name slightly changed but they use the same font and color scheme. the original la shish was in west Dearborn in a building that was since demolished and built back up. That Gentleman’s Club you refer to, about 10 or 15 years ago, sold the most alcohol in the state other than the Palace. Not sure what.was going on there. Quote
romad1 Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago Are the strip clubs part of Shariah? How do they dance in burkas? Quote
romad1 Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago re: Detroit Style Pizza. I had been ordering Buholzer Brothers brick cheese online for something like $50 for 2pounds. Sort of insane to do but was enjoying the resulting pizza. I stopped in at Contadoro market in Livonia while I was there and brought it back to northern Virginia and got what I consider somewhat better brick cheese for so much less ($20 for 3 pounds). I have been dabbling with the crust. Dough is now 3/4 bread flour and 1/4 00 flour based on someone's rec. Seems to work. Sauce is generally whatever is at the store in a jar. Giant's organic brand works. My only stipulation is that it not be Papa John's levels of sweet. That stuff is gross. Pepperonis are mixed cooked on top of pie and a larger number cooked on the side and added later to avoid over greasing the pizza before serving. I have yet to do other toppings because I am working toward perfecting the one variant before i move on. Quote

But like many religions.... there's some who ignore it. There's a famous local guy who is prominent at anti gay topics at school boards, he's tried to run for office, now he got busted for drugs... but his IG is now private after people exposed him in the various "champagne rooms". Is his name Charles LeDuff? I grew up going to Dearborn strip clubs. That is to say I attended them when I was old enough and always when being driven to and from by a responsible designated driver. oblong Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago Dearborn has 3, Silver Criket, BT's, and the one mentioned above, don't recall the name. There was one on Ford road but that was technically Detroit. Used to go to theC Criket a lot. My wife worked with a girl at McDonald's who later went there. Played an April Fool's joke on me one year where she called to tell me she went to interview... got as far as "I took my top off for the guy" before I lost it and she had to admit it was a joke. For being under Sharia Law..... These places really aren't popular among the kids anymore. My son is 25 and he and his friends think they are dumb. A family member got married recently and his future step son tried to arrange a party bus to go and I had absolutely no interest. Sounds gross now especially since those girls could be our daughters.
