  1. Past hour
  2. cool thread title bro
  3. good news, thanks for doing that Bert.
  4. eh, Tim already had 2 WS championships and they won the year before in '67 so he could get over it. 🙂
  5. A few of you have mentioned the absence of @Jim Cowan who was also Charles Liston on the old board and wondered what he was doing and if he was OK and I reached out to him through email and he said he’s doing just fine but that he finds his general interest in being a part of a message board on a daily basis to have waned and that it only has its greatest value as an all consuming passion which has for the time being ebbed. He said that he’s excited about McGonigle and the starting pitching and sent his best to a number of you. Since it’s a personal message, I don’t feel comfortable relaying too many of the details, but my own concern was that something healthwise had happened to him - we are both 74 so that can be an issue - and it hasn’t. Anyway, that’s the scoop.
  6. You go to a baseball game and a hockey game breaks out;
  7. Today
  8. well that's what we have all been hoping for! And seriously, on this team 'best hitter' was not a very high bar to clear. But he's still trailing Keith's start by ~40 OPS pts though he's passed Keith in most counting stats (also has ~13 more PA). Assuming this is the real McGonigle and not just the charged up version that will run down in a month - which is admittedly a huge assumption - I think he and Colt are as likely to be the highest OBP guys on the team as anyone else. And McGonigle may hit for more power. Colt has shortened his swing so much he has almost no hip rotation, he's really sacrificing power potential for contact right now. Maybe as he gets comfortable with the new stance he'll start to use his lower half more.
  9. So is Kevin McGonigle our best hitter already ? Serious question .
  10. I'm not sure but he doesn't hit well with RISP so maybe the pressure is just not his thing. In 2006 Leyland did well putting power bat in the 8th spot so maybe keep him down there.
  11. Wings’ tragic number is 5. Any combination of Ottawa points and Detroit dropped points adding up to 5 eliminates the Wings. 4 games left for each. So for example, even if the Wings were to win their final four games (ha!) so 0 dropped points, Ottawa going 2-1-1 for 5 points would eliminate the Wings.
  12. I remember the World Series and Tim McCarver’s announcing and not being a very objective observer, but I didn’t realize until a few days ago he died three years ago, and I feel bad about speaking ill of the dead. I remember about a year ago recounting how badly 1968 must’ve affected him and relishing it and now I’m not particularly proud of my remarks.
  13. The sad thing is, Mario could have been better with someone else. On a few occasions when he worked with someone else the difference was obvious, he was much more personable and engaged with the other person in the booth and it was a better broadcast. Rod could do color, but Mario was right about that too - too often he hadn't done any homework and he would go whole games adding nothing but his cutesy signature lines. Tiger's have only themselves to blame, they should have broken them up years before it fell apart. Sure you don't have to like someone to work with them, but when it reaches where one detests the other to the point he can't be his best self professionally it's no good to keep forcing it. The interlude with Shep was regrettable, but they've landed on their feet with Benetti, for as long as he stays.
  14. Until tonight Riley only had 7 Ks in 43 PA, which is a decent reduction. Unfortunately all his other results have a reduction as well. We've heard a lot of talk about Riley having worked on a lot of stuff in the off season, but so far the upper cut swing doesn't look real different to me.
  15. So all this amounted to was that we have given Bibi the free use of the worlds most expensive lawn mower for 30 days (which we get back with its blade seriously dulled) so he could extend his 'forever war' just a little further out before it becomes the failure it will inevitably be.
  16. We just have to wait until the talking points come down so expect something about either a trans, immigrant, or something vaguely similar a Democrat did that one time in a similar but completely different scenario.
  17. Greene and Tork 11 games in and 0 HR.
  18. No, you don't understand, we just have to be patient and we will see the victory emerge....or so we were told.
  19. Johnson only won by 1% last time and Dems didn't invest much in Wisconsin. It's a bloodbath in Wisconsin right now.
  20. Iran has just been funded to the tune of 100 new Shaheeds per ship Transit. So much winning.
  21. I think with Buffalo making the playoffs, and Edmonton having made it to Game 7 of the SCF the past 2 years, the Wings will be the NHL's new punchline, at least for the next year.
  22. It is too bad Johnson isn't up this cycle because he'd probably be toast.
  23. It's about that time for my annual tradition of figuring out who I'll be rooting for in the playoffs since the Wings ain't gonna be there. It's a toss up between Buffalo and Utah so maybe I'll just go with both until one of them is eliminated.
  24. Last place in the Central… The only place to go is up!
