  1. Past hour
  2. Yeah, we boomers had it easier. We could go to state funded colleges that were nearly free compared to now. But there was always the omnipresent terror of being dragged into an unwinnable war in Southeast Asia and the discovery of drugs, especially bad drugs, that was a real scourge.
  3. Yeah, Whittingham definitely likes a running QB. Michigan is going to be fascinating to watch this year. Really tough schedule, but they have the tools to be really good. With that said, OSU has a really tough schedule as well. I am not sold they are a top 5 team at this point. Lots of new faces on both O and D, especially D. Sayin is very accurate but I am not convinced he can take over a game against a quality opponent by himself when he needs to. But, last year was his first year as QB1, and he did alright, so I am being nit picky probably.
  4. The general public waves start at 10 and continue 11:21.
  5. Riley bails out Jack Flaherty at the Green monster.
  6. yup - I think most people do. And as carefully as I do vet UM regents, I almost never vote the MSU or WSA slates exacty because I don't follow the issues at those schools. There was point a number of years ago when I did make a point of voting against all the incumbent MSU Trustees because they had mad a bad enough muddle in E. Lansing that it got on my radar.
  7. I once was thrown against a locker by a principal for having a bright green dart toy dart gun with which my buddies and I were playing assassin. Boomers and Gen X had different trajectories. My generation were worried about the dragons in D&D that could spray us with acid. Yours was worried that the brown acid was going to mess them up or about the draft board sending them to Vietnam.

And Wisconsin should flip - it's a faiirly moderate state. Beyond that there is a belief that trump has managed to alienate a lot of his supporters, but so far it's all anecdote and speculation. That's OK, but it's not proof. His overall approval numbers are down, but not down enough from where they always are to indicate numbers for a major re-alignment.
  9. another fourth liner who tries hard but has limited skill. he'll fit right in on the first line here.
  10. True. Touch may be a result of being rushed, or not having any offspeed pitch control. Mgoblog posts what the coaches saying about how players are coming along, and then translates that into what that probably means. If we start hearing about how well Carr and the transfer they have coming in are looking, that probably means that Underwood is not progressing.
  11. theyre bringing a lot of urban's old offense back. a lot more qb runs. that will take advantage of underwood's size and athleticism more. carr is athletic, but he has a pop gun arm. not sure he's a long term solution but it would depend on the offense they run. and if underwood did leave, they'll have LOTS OF MONEY left over to go get another qb.
  12. FWIW, I typically leave the regent races blank on my ballot as I don't know them and I don't really care.
  13. Have fond memories of the city of Boston in which I spent a wonderful summer in 1971 when I was 19 years old on Fort Hill in Roxbury. At the top of the hill, there were all these once elegant stone buildings some of which were occupied by a local cult called the Avatars presided over by a guru named Mel Lyman. The avatars avoided us all because we were unclean. They avoided everybody because everybody was unclean. I spent the summer eating free government cheese, selling the Boston Phoenix, newspaper, and going to concerts on the Boston Common where I saw Leon Russell, Joan Baez, and the Allman Brothers at a time when Duane Allman and Berry Oakley were still alive. I still hold the city of Boston close to my heart 55 years later.
  14. underwood's comp is cam newton or vince young. He's massive, he can run like a deer, has a cannon for an arm... and **** mechanics that impacts his accuracy. i'm not saying he's going to final get it like young or newton, but that's his comp.
  15. I don't see him comparable to JJ. I think JJ was a bit overrated because of the team around him, honestly, but he was certainly a good leader and clutch. He stepped up when he had to deliver a key pass and did so accurately and on time. Underwood has not really shown ability to do that. I think Underwood might have been overhyped coming out of high school because he was just such an athletic freak/physical specimen. Was able to dominate a bunch of HS kids that are now either going to random colleges in Michigan as normies or working at Chipotle in the greater Detroit area. Now he is going up against other athletic freaks. He needs to throw passes into tight windows. His mechanics are awful. Simply awful. Can he figure it out? Sure, of course he can. He hasn't shown it yet, though. I guess he dominated New Mexico and Central. I tried to tell Michigan fans similar stuff about Jaydn Davis, but everyone said I was just being a Buckeye homer. Now, Davis doesn't have the physical tools of Underwood, so it is not exactly the same. Underwood can certainly turn it around. But he needs to start showing out in September, and realistically, when he enters big ten play. I could see Underwood being a bit of a Terelle Pryor, who also had bad mechanics, but Pryor was a better running, at least from what I have seen. Just me trying to be a fortune teller - I think Underwood will be QB1 all of this year and Michigan decides to move on after the season. Unsure if QB1 going into 2027 will be Carr or someone from outside the program, but have a feeling Underwood will go down south for what he will see as his last college season and Michigan will want a more accurate passer. When you have such an elite running back and OL, you don't need someone making highlight reel plays at QB. Honestly, if Michigan had someone like Julian Sayin with that RB room I think they would be one of the favorites for the natty this year. Hiter is going to be special and Marshall is real good.
  16. 14 BB and 12 H - seemed to be auditioning for the Justyn-Henry Malloy mantle, which won't get him very far.
  17. I think they're just screwing around. The Lions social media team can be a bit ironic. I can't imagine this is how they would announce anything serious.
  18. I'm to the point where i would be against trading up in this draft, and even moreso adding 2027 high draft choices. Their needs outpace their resources for the next year or two. At least until they start trading established players for picks.
  19. What makes the biggest difference is total runs scored. Cora getting some runners thrown out at home isn't as big of a deal as a coach on KC getting runners thrown out. KC has run scoring problems (right now) so any runner thrown out at the plate is magnified. If a team scores a lot of runs, having more thrown out at home may even be the whole reason for both more runs scored and runners thrown out. The aggressive sends may lead to more runs, which leads to more wins. Just looking at that one stat can be very misleading. Its why some people dont like the use of stats, especially cherry picked ones. The runners thrown out on the basepaths could be a reason for run scoring issues or it could be teams having more base runners have a greater chance of having runners thrown out. Losing a 1-0 game with 3 hits and 2 walks wouldn't allow a team to have as many chances as a team that gets 15 hits and scored 7 runs. Score 10 runs while having 5 runners thrown out at home is a meaningless stat. As long as you win. Which is an incrediblely important stat. 😆
  20. His comp is JJ as a Frosh. JJ was not quite ready to be QB for that 2021 team until Georgia showed that Cade was definitely not enough.
  21. Dylan James scored two last night...I had Finnie as a darkhorse to make the team last year, I think James will be a great under the radar bottom six guy next year
  22. Of course we can always revisit this post in November like we can revisit the Bryce Underwood one.
  23. But coaching decisions are a big part of how well a team runs the bases, no way to separate them.
