  1. Past hour
  2. Again, a lot of the same fears and anxieties in the lead up to what Orban would do to stay in power were filtered in the media and among a lot of American observers. The voters spoke and they did not happen. Just think we need to consider that when thinking about our own situation. I understand that January 6th happened and that Trump (unlike Orban) is not a rational person. But I see the thought that democracy is over or that politics do not matter at all often (including to an extent on this board when engaging), and regardless of what stupidity he or his party have up his sleeve, I don't believe either thing is true. Democracy is not over, people are engaged (10 million people showed up to the last No Kings protests, no matter how much it was downplayed by the media), and things are always changing. People are pissed at the cost of gasoline, the cost of housing, being stuck in a stupid and pointless war. People were pissed when the administration was instigating a terror campaign on the people Minneapolis (one, btw, that the people of Minneapolis beat back and defeated). And yes, I truly do think there are a lot of people pissed off at his attacks on democracy. Maybe that wasn't the case in 2024, but things change in politics. This administration is terrible, they will do countless bad things between now and November and now and 2028. But I wish more liberals or anti-Trump folks understood that being joyless or hopeless (or projecting joylessness and hopelessness) all of the time may be a good coping mechanism... but ultimately it does not make anything that may happen in the future any more or less likely. I speak to that as well having watched the Hungarian opposition build over the past couple of years as well.... they started from a much worse situation than we find ourselves in, but there was a lot less wallowing or "woe is me" going on. They did the work... we need to as well.
  3. Its early. But he's making a case for the all star game, is he not?
  4. Crucify him and see what happens.
  5. I recommend the documentary about the Hungarian finance minister Miklos Nemeth who perhaps by failing to fund the border fence started the avalanche in 1989.
  6. The NBA is by far the most Diva of all the leagues.
  7. i will disagree and say people are not scared enough. I understand fear paralyzes some people, but it is important to go down fighting and telling the truth. (see: Kamala Harris warning people that he would unleash the military on US citizens.) Trump was VERY VERY VERY CLOSE to stealing the 2020 election. If Mike Pence had derailed the Jan 6 count, it would have thrown the election to the House who would have elected Trump over Biden because of "the fraud". take seriously and literally MAGA when they say Trump should remain in the White House after Jan 20 2029. it's a stupid, stupid plan, but I can guarantee you, there is a plan. we are barely hanging on as a democracy. people need to understand that.
  8. not to get all "gen x nostalgiac" on you, but can you imagine jordan or isiah or bird or magic not wanting to play? not wanting to win? take the all star game, they actually used to try to win the game. how novel. i know this sounds old mannish, but i think its generational. does lebron really care about winning every game? or is he more concerned with brand and "mental health"?
  9. Very interesting ad I keep hearing in my youtube feed that reminds people to vote (african american voice) "Virginians you need to vote by April 21...something something, your vote is private but your friends loved ones and neighbors can check to see if you did vote" I wonder if that's the African American community's effort to remind peers they have nobody to blame but themselves if Yes vote fails.
  10. Almost everything about the league's regular season is embarassing nowadays. from marginal players setting records for offense, to teams deliberately playing g-league lineups to lose games, to sitting star players every other night, to the massive blowouts as teams do not care if they win. its a real problem in the nba. the fact that the players do not care enough about the game to play every night is an issue that will haunt the league. i dont know how you fix that. they should give the commish the ability to punish teams for sending out inferior lineups to lose. give it real teeth and not the half-assed measures they use now. in other words, give the commish the ability to take picks away, or to lower the draft odds, or say the team cant pick higher than 8th because of repeat tanking offenses. they can tweak the lottery in ways that will help, but i doubt they have the cojones to do it. make a win "floor". if you dont finish with at least 25 wins, the highest you can pick is 8th. something like that. but make it so teams have to win a certain number of games during the year.
  11. They passed on Carter because of his poor workout and being out of shape. Even Eagles fans note he takes plays off.
  12. This is a great point... the church will long outlive our senile, narcissistic President
  13. Today
  14. yes it was. I was wondering how they were going to pull it off but I liked it. Sometimes the obvious answer is the best one, rather than some crazy twist at the end, but if you tell the story correctly it can work. Loved the Homer character too. My only complaint is that Clark's ASL skills were too advanced for the limited amount of learning he had. They did a good job at balancing the flaws but showing us why they have those flaws. and having a son like Richard sure pulled at the heartstrings. When they were on the bus after he acted out.... damn. Been there done that.
  15. ABS is now a feature in MLB the Show. I got it to work for me 1/2 times I tried it with 2 games played.
  16. I had this goofball thought that I wonder if we'll see a situation where a catcher calls for the wrong kind of ABS... meaning they are so intuned to their task and the immediate reaction becomes instinctive... so Dingler is catching, a ball is called a strike but since he has to think about this **** as both a hitter and a catcher, he taps his helmet. I could see Miggy doing that as a hitter. "No no, that was a strike man, give the P his due.... he earned it. I'll hit the next pitch for a HR anyway..."
  17. When Trammell played his final game in 1996 it was against the Brewers. He gave a little speech after the game and Phil, who managed the Brewers, told his players to stay on the field to pay their respects. That said he was ok with me.
  18. We now need to complete the cycle of reform. That means the people in the United States need to also be out in mass the days before Fall 2026 and Fall 2028 elections to prove that we will not allow the people in power f with our democracy.
  19. The psychology of having China beat us back to the Moon might be all about us being up our own asses but it is still good to prove you can dunk on little brother before he (AND EVERYONE ELSE) decides you don't matter anymore.
  20. Embarrassing.
  21. Hornets beat Miami Orlando beats Philly to become the 7th seed Hornets beat Philly to become the 8th seed West Clippers beat GSW Suns beat Portland to become the 7th seed Portland beats LAC to become the 8th seed
