  1. Past hour
  2. the argument going into the season was that if you had a chance to win, keeping him through the season would be worth more than any likely return. So the part about the return not being great hasn't changed, what's changing rapidly is his potential value to a team that isn't going anywhere. How good does the return have to be to be more valuable than the difference between finishing 4 and 5th? Chasfh is correct you can't really do anything until he is pitching again, but that could still be substantially before the deadline.
  3. mistake was probably made years ago when they decided to have one super fund instead of breaking things up by municipality or district where each fund could be judged against its peers. Now trying to reform it is a too big to fail situation.
  4. Today
  5. That's more stupid than violent. It amazes me that so many people will think that's funny.
  6. Never underestimate the stupidity of GMs. Duren is a 22 year old All Star with a lot of physical tools that GMs drool over and perceived growth potential, even the biggest haters have to admit that he did improve this regular season. There's no way in any scenario that he's getting less than 30m/yr long term regardless of a 14 game playoff sample size. I'm far from a Duren fan and have stated as such around here for months that I don't think the Pistons should pay him what his market will likely dictate but I do believe there will be a pretty significant market for him despite what we saw in the last month and that number starts with a 30 at the very minimum IMO. Just look at the Ayton example for one.
  7. They sold off their radio stations a few years ago. With fewer radio stations, outside of Trumpservative talkers carrying any sort of network news, the move was probably inevitable.
  8. Maybe I am underestimating what they can get, but I don't think they are getting a McGonigle level prospect for a two-month rental though. They may get a package, but I don't think the best player in the package will be guy who has received an 80 scouting grade for hitting.
  9. I think if any GM is unwilling to give more value than that (assuming he returns in mid June and makes 6+ weeks worth of Skubal-level starts), then they should all lose their jobs. The value of that pick is a guy in the back end of a team’s top 10.
  10. The only reason I'll watch is that I like to be hurt. Banging my arm in the car door isn't doing it any more. 🥹
  11. I don’t think I could estimate what a collective group might be expecting, but I do think we may have something close to an actual efficiently operating market when it comes to selling Skubal, because I don’t think anyone is going to be able to get away with making a lowball offer and expecting it to be accepted because of a lack of better offers. This is not Eduardo or Jack Flaherty. A team cannot go elsewhere and get another comparable version. But yeah, of course there will be a limit. The easiest thing to do in these cases is to simply try and put yourself in the other side‘s position. If Paul Skenes is on the market in the same situation three years from now, and the tigers are contending, would I be open to them trading last year’s McGonigle? Maybe. I wouldn’t have done it for Mason miller, as much as I like him. So it’s always going to come down to specific needs and personalities.
  12. No! Tell us this isn't so. With markets at all time highs no less. Nation’s largest public pension fund plagued by secrecy and underperformance, probe finds - Bubblevision There is never only one cockroach. This fund has been a swindle for years. And we are at high tide.
  13. Howzabout a merging of an Earl Weaver cursing head inside of a circled CHARM CITY with a voice cloud coming from his mouth and the Maryland flag replacing ####! for the obscenity coming out of his mouth?
  14. That’s an interesting concept. Create the sleeves to mimic the Maryland flag, maybe using orange in place of the red and yellow? I generally prefer simple, but a tie in to the state flag seems unique for a one team in the state team.
  15. I myself escape that conclusion. We get pennies on the dollar while he is still hurt.
  16. Game postponed. Double header tomorrow
  17. New tax filings show college sports’ financial arms race has new winners — and losers
  18. The problem is he has to show that he is healthy and able to pitch at his usual elite level in order to get any kind of worthwhile offer. I think there is a good chance they won't get anyone better than the 31-35 pick they would get for losing him.
  19. Yam Madar is a PG that played this season for Hapoel Tel Aviv. He just agreed to an NIL deal with LSU. Rumors are it's worth $5 million per. He was drafted by the Celtics in 2020 but only played one summer league game. Never played on a regular season team. He played 13 games in Euroleague this year and averaged 3 points per game. For his career of about 8 years over multiple teams, he averages 8 points per game. $5 million per is almost certainly more than any NBA team would have paid him.
  20. No, you save that for your left fielder....
  21. Expectation is probably a better word to use than hope.
  22. so given this and your post about the likely future of any Tiger team that went 2-15 - is the inescapable conclusion that the only rational thing to do is offer him (and anyone else over 26 that will bring back value) in trade while there are still 4 months left in the season? If you're ever going to get to the top of the mountain you have be ruthless in your self-evaluation.
  23. I have zero expectation but there is always hope. I would never plan around a pitcher with a long-term injury.
  24. Rob Thompson, Alex Cora, Joe Maddon, Dave Martinez and Bob Melvin. There aren't many managerial candidates better than AJ Hinch and that's what is saving his job at this time.
  25. Of course it is, but he has provided decent value the last three years.
