She kind of tore him up at a discussion held not far from my house earlier this week. I wish I had known it was going on but it was a UAW hall so maybe attendance was restricted.

too many people think athletics and performance is all about you and what you've done or not done. "I just didn't work hard enough man..." "You are weak! You didn't prepare!" -

But that's not how it works in MLB The Show! -
From the story: Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche made clear Wednesday that the conduct of January 6, 2021, rioters who attacked law enforcement will be factored when the soon-to-be-set-up commission reviews applications to the anti-weaponization fund. “One of the factors the commissioners have to consider is what the claimant did — the claimant’s conduct,” Blanche told CNN’s Paula Reid in an interview Wednesday. “The claimant would have to say, ‘I assaulted a cop and I want money.’” “Whether the commissioners will give that person money – that claimant – it’s up to them. But that’s one of the factors they have to consider,” he continued, adding that Trump “does not stand for assaulting law enforcement.” Blanche said he couldn’t fully rule out the possibility that someone who was violent toward officers [would not receive payments], saying it was up to the commissioners. “So, whether the commissioners will give that person money, that claimant, it’s up to them,” he said. Translation: If you assaulted a Capitol cop to overturn the election and reinstall Donald Trump as president, then congratulations and look for a check in the mail.

Not a map, but pretty informative.

Do people who got fired over Charlie Kirk get a piece of this slush fund?

I like to tell people "The other team wants to win too... and they're good players" -
i don’t notice it so much as a team, mostly my observation of Torkelson. you watch his ABs particularly on game day where the pitch history for the AB stays visible, and you are struck by how often he ends up having to swing at a pitcher’s pitch at two strikes after having taken a much better strike to hit. Even allowing for the fact that if a guy lands a good breaking on the 1st pitch most hitters will take the chance it’s not going to land- so there will be times you end taking middle-middle, but when Tork struggles, he seems to stand out for ultimately swinging at worse strikes than he takes early.

switch out Holland for Castle and this team is still playing. Getting jack squat from the 5th pick in 2022 and 2024 drafts just kills me

But if they were scoring multiple runs per game, the mistakes wouldn't be remembered. Limited scoring makes the mistakes more glaring. - Today

Agreed. But hopefully, Perez will be benched and Flaherty will be replaced in the starting rotation. Melton is on his way back, maybe Sunday? -
Even still, I think Castle has superstar potential. He has a lot of Cade to his game, including the grit

A batter could guess that the first pitch is going to be the one he wants and then swing at it and it's not. The same goes for any pitch in the sequence. Are Tigers down in the count more often than hitters on other teams?
-
Probably because they treat the Constitution like MAGA Christians treat the bible: they embrace the parts that make them feel good, and they ignore the rest.
-
But if you can't tell the difference at all, it really makes no difference whether you swing or not does it? If all you can do is guess, then you have a finite chance of running into it, as compared to the chance the pitcher is going to miss. So sure, it comes down to understanding who the pitcher is and what his command is like and seeing whether he is stuggling to throw strikes or so sharp he is just toying with hitters. But the trend of some things is still knowable. If a batter is constantly down in the count without having swung the bat over hundreds of AB, he is giving himself no chance.
-
well, the dumb part about the War Powers act is that the President can veto the resolution, which then means it you need an override super majority - which ain't gonna happen anyway. We used to think that having a Constitution instead of just a precedent guided Parliament like Britain was an advantage. I just don't think it's true anymore. The US Constitution and its recent SCOTUS interpretations are hindering US democracy far more than they are helping to achieve it.
-
That works for gifted hitters, but for average hitters the pitch that looks like a great pitch might actually be the worst pitch to hit. The pitcher knows batter strengths and weaknesses and he tries to fool batters all the time. With only a split second to react, it is easy for a batter to be deceived.
-
False choice. There can be both. 😏
-
So what if Senate votes to pass the resolution to curb war powers? What do they expect Trump to do in response? Comply? As if.

absolutely. But guys develop tendencies and if you are going to be a good hitter you have be aware yourself and fight falling into habits where the problem is your brain as much as your ability to hit the ball. It's probably a good question whether when hitters cycle in and out of performance level how much is luck, how much is mental, how much is physical. With batted ball metrics we can sort of figure out the luck part now, the split between physical fatigue plus sub clinical injury vs just losing your mental edge is probably unknowable.
