Hooker came out of that Josh Heupel offense which doesn't translate well to the NFL. It emphasizes quick reads and taking off if they aren't there. If he could process complex defenses was unknown pretty much. And ultimately why he failed is he was lost post snap. It was a gamble i think they thought they could make because they had a bunch of picks. It kind of began a trend of making some bad decisions with 3rd and 4th round picks, or at least decisions that look bad in retrospect.

Setting aside that he's under contract, while the Boston name has a lot of prestige, the organization itself looks like a dumpster fire right now. This is a better team and a better job at this point in time. He'd be crazy to leave for that job

To be honest, I slept through the last half of this game. I got up at 4:00 AM MDT to watch the Liège-Bastogne-Liège men’s cycling race on Peacock, then hiked 3 miles - much of it uphill in the Boise Foothills at the Idaho Botanical Garden - then crashed and fell asleep when the game was knotted at 2–2 in the 4th looking more like the same old same old I’d already seen the first two games Totally missed all the excitement.

A lot of times last year it seemed like there’d be a bad strike call against him earlier in an AB that would put him in an 0-1/0-2/1-2 count and ruin his at bat just as much as bad third strike calls.

He seemed to be the Tiger most victimized by egregiously bad calls last year. Haven't noticed that much this year, but you make a good point that he should benefit more than others from the ABS.

I said last year that I thought Tork would be .350 obp this year because of how often he seemed to get called out on bad third strikes. I think of all players, he’s going to be a huge bump from ABS being in play.

I think it's going to take a while for everyone to get the recalibration created by ABS figured out. And I think there will be some roll over in pitching staffs. The #1's, guys that already have great command like Skubal, aren't that affected, but I think at the other end of pitching staffs, some guys who maybe throw hard but are only 'around' the K zone and were living off catchers stealing strikes and umpires' allowances to the outside, are going to end up dropped in favor of guys who maybe give up a few more hits but can throw strikes into the ABS zone. So maybe we see this initial rise in walk rate fall back a little, but a few more balls in play before all is said and done.

So when do all the Detroit radio stations start begging Tork for forgiveness?

A bit...Holton's ERA is inflated at 4.50. But Hurter has an acceptable 2.45 ERA. Vest is/was at 6.75 coming into today, down to 6.17. Not something we want to see in an important setup man.

Two weeks ago all three were on the trading block or demotion watch. You got to love baseball fans.

Because he is a HR hitter, I think people tend to overestimate Torkeson as a hitter somewhat. His OBP so far this year is higher than any year in his career, but probably because he came out of the gate slow the 1st week I bet most fans would be surprised by that. He's always been limited as a hitter beyond the HRs. If he could hold a 350 OBP for a season it would be a breakthrough for him.
