Will Tigers Pony up for Skubal
monkeytargets39 replied to AlaskanTigersFan's topic in Detroit Tigers
Gotta be honest- I think regardless we need to look at dealing Skubal, Mize, Jansen, Torres and possibly Vest and Carpenter at the deadline. At least make them all available and see what we can get. Theres a AAA 1B prospect in the Brewers system that doesn’t hit for much average but has a ridiculous walk rate and a .420 career OBP and a low K rate. Brewers have two of the top 10 first base prospects plus two guys already raking in the bigs—and they’ll probably want pitching help. Diamondbacks could be buyers at the deadline. Their #10 prospect is a AAA 3B/INF that has a career .300 average with a .389 OBP. Walks as much as he Ks…just not a lot of power but projects solid defensively. D-Backs could use starting pitching help and DH help. Could try and ship Carpenter to them and or a pitcher. Dbacks also have a LH starter at AAA that has great K:BB rates and low BAA. Apparently lower end on velocity but very good control. The Mariners are gonna want to make another run at it and I feel like they’re the team that we could fleece the most in a Skubal trade just because they’re super hungry for a WS berth and Skubal is from that area. I’d target Kade Anderson the pitcher and/or Michael Arroyo (2B/OF) as returns there that really fit the billing for strike zone dominance. Jonathan Long is a 1B from the Cubs that could be a good pickup too. -
French and then English, actually. Well done, classy.

Beaten on that 2nd goal, but how can Gostisbehere have been cast off by the Wings but gets regular minutes with top seed Carolina? 50 pts in 55 games this season, $3.2mm cap hit.
-
Flying start to Habs-Canes series. 1-1 one minute in.

That's because we are so ****ed up we couldn't pour piss out of a boot if the directions were on the bottom.

I know that my smart hard working public policy students are having a tough time getting jobs.

Great breakdown. I usually find Bryce to be a bit passive for my tastes but he was adamant that this is the offseason to move forward for real. They aren’t comfortable paying JD north of 30M but think Detroit will pay him mid to upper 30s anyway. They discussed the idea of dangling him to NO for Murphy. They also discuss some draft options, talk about Ausar, Ron, over/under the cap, and more. Great show.

Maybe it's because the A students who majored in political science or public policy at top schools have been replaced in Congress by the C students who majored in communications or hospitality management at Division III state schools.

Man, starting a Middle East war just to avoid going to your son's wedding is some first-class bad parenting right there.

Flaherty isn't getting taken out of the rotation. They already don't have enough starters and they are paying him $20 million this season. -
I don't disagree on the value. But did he just list Murphy's degree as a reason his value is high?
-
it works. as long as the refs continue to reward them for it, shai and mitchell and brunson and harden will continue to dive and flop around.
-
max said he was not exempt. i expect cossa to be detroit's backup next year.

i dont understamd your point. if tampa bay decides not to sign expensive, over priced free agents, that's not collusion. if other teams see that and decide not to do so, that's not collusion either. let the mets and co overspend. you dont need to do so to be successful. -
He was a pretty unique individual, back in the day he did a lot of combativr TV hits with Bill Orielly iirc. He seemed very informed and great at presenting his case and his disheveled look was hilarious.

in a sane world this would be a completely empty threat because for any GOP Congressional leadership smart enough to ask, the Dems should love to join forces to override a Trump veto on a bill that was going to pass without them anyway. But neither the GOP nor Dem Congressional leadership are skilled, brave, honest or trustworthy enough to make it happen.

Seravalli never gets anything Red Wings related right, seems like he's out here just guessing

Skubal was never going to sign with Detroit. They are 11 games under .500. They still have 111 games left. They have 20 wins and will need a minimum of 86 games to be a playoff contender. They need to go 66-45 the rest of the season to reach the minimum number of wins. That's .594 baseball, which is about a 97 win season over 162 games. And that is to get to the minimum number of wins. They are in a lot of trouble but they have to stick with their guys until July at least Then Skubal, Mize, Flaherty and their entire bullpen will be up for grabs. Finnegan definitely will have some value.
