  2. My wife Mary (27th anniversary was a couple of weeks ago) has breast cancer. She found out she had it on the same day she found out that I likely gave her Covid, in late April. She was detected early, thank god, but it took 2 surgeries for them to get rid of the cancer, and now she is going through chemo. She's now more than halfway done with the chemo, so she's rounding 2nd base in a way. We are holding up well. It's been a big help having my son home during this trying time. We appreciate any thoughts and prayers. Thank you.

  3. there is no question that the lions are the worst franchise in american sports history. they play in a league specifically designed to achieve parity and make it easy for bad teams to get better. in that time, they have won one playoff game. ONE! its amazing how terrible they are. no one else is close.

  6. Our coaches are fine, getting a lot out of a very bad team. At least, defensively. Have they made mistakes? Yup, sure did.

  11. Mask usage is more like 20-25% here, but that is down from when we had the massive spike in cases this summer when it jumped back up to something like 65-70% again. To an extent, the combination of vaccination and dumbasses who will not avail themselves is the endgame here.... pretty soon we will all have exposure either naturally or through vaccination. Which in the long run moves us from it being a pandemic to endemic. I'd imagine the rules on masking, to the extent that certain regions even have rules/regs on masking, will evolve as this transition occurs.

  13. One of the memorable games from the era we are talking about was the Cardinals and Braves 19 inning game where Jose Oquendo pitched four innings. The Cardinals ran out of position players and Jose DeLeon was playing the outfield. He kept on switching from right to left with Tom Brunansky depending on who was batting. Every time they made the switch, they showed them running in front of Willie McGee in center and they kept showing McGee's face which made me laugh. McGee just had this innocent look all the time that was amusing. He was one of my favorites from that era.

  14. 1989 was the summer before I got my drivers license. I was 15 and past the point of “going out and playing”, we did more of our stuff later in the day by then. Usually just hanging out at someone’s house. I spent a lot of time that summer home during the day and watching the Cubs. When they won the division I felt like a Cubs fan. It was neat.

  15. I never really paid a whole lot of attention to Harry or SKip even though I watched a ton of Braves and Cubs games as a kid/teen. The one memory I have of Skip and the color guy for Atlanta is when Chipper Jones just got called up every time he did anything they would go crazy, no matter what it was. Or if they were going to a break and showing who was coming up the following inning they would make sure to emphasize that Chipper was coming up. His excitement for Chipper became an inside joke with me, my brother and neighbor/best friend who would all watch the games together. We were all just young teens at the time and got a kick out of it so to this day if were around each other in public and we hear a bunch of people yelling and screaming one of us will say "God damn is Chipper Jones up or something?"

  16. If I remember correctly, I believe I am older than you so our experiences may be different. I grew up in an era where there were hardly any games on TV, so the early years of cable TV were a pretty big deal.

  24. In our area mask usage is very rare. I would say 5 to 10% or less in the stores I have been too recently. We are required to wear them at work and most are chin guards.
