  1. Here is the view from the rest of the world: under the previous administration the control of your southern border was a humanitarian catastrophe. The callousness and cruelty were beyond comprehension.

  2. Of course, Trump has his hand-picked “the best people” around him to shore up his own cognitive disabilities. 😏

  3. We didn't put your children in cages, and force separations of families which are still in effect. That comparison is just silly. You are comparing the nightmare of your southern border to casual tourists being denied entry into Canada. We have torrents of illegal immigrants here, people from third world countries who arrive in New York and make their way to the border, walking across from Vermont to Quebec. We have to accomodate them humanely and let the legal system adjudicate their refugee claims.

  4. Or he acknowledges that he is constrained by laws? Seriously brah c'mon now I guess I shouldn't be shocked that "president constrained by the rule of law" isn't in the consciousness of Trumpers and Republicans.

  5. If a guy is better than most of the other catchers defensively, and hits the same as the rest of them...he's a good player, right?

  6. I know I wasn't a fan of signing Barnhart, mainly because of his bat, and the Tigers definitely need to improve their hitting, but he's on our team now and so I have faith in him. I pride myself and think of myself as a man of faith, as there’s a drive into deep left field by Castellanos, it will be a home run. And so that’ll make it a 4-0 ballgame.

  7. I think both Freehan and Posey have summary numbers in the primes of their respective careers to be inducted. We can evaluate this is non players and run numbers through spreadsheets and models and whatnot to take care of the numerical side of the argument. Sure, Posey is retiring early. But he’s not the first player to have his playing career by choice or by other circumstance, and he wouldn’t be the first hall of fame player either. I also think they clearly had the respect of the leagues in which they played to be voted into the all star games much often than not. You want to talk about game respecting game and actual players/managers determining who the better players are, my guess is Freehan didn’t win fan votes for all 11 appearances. Toss in gold gloves and MVP votes. Falling off of the ballot in his first year of eligibility with only 2 votes seems criminal.

  8. I mean, seriously, you could be bigger than using “-tard” to describe someone or some group. Or you can go ahead and use the epithet and sound like the former president, your choice.

  14. Honestly, his first sentence aside, go back and read what he wrote. I don't find it objectionable. In terms of that first sentence, Biden is not 100%. I'm not saying he's senile or anything, but he's clearly not at full power. Still, I do believe he's capable of understanding the issues at hand and putting, even if I disagree with them, competent folks in charge. So when he indicates he isn't allowed to participate, that is concerning. While he doesn't have a defined role in legislation as POTUS, he absolutely has the right (and some would say responsibility) to lead his party. Maybe there has been more stuff behind the scenes. I know Sinema was at the WH a few days in a row a week or two back, but publicly there is nothing coming out of Biden and I do find that troubling.

  15. I don't think it's a big mystery. They didn't have a good bullpen and the lineup was not that strong. Our big guns were dreadful on the bases and we had too many holes in the lineup. 2014 was kind of an off year for Verlander with his injury. Sanchez/Porcello/Smyly winning rings is non eventful. They were on good teams.

  16. I don't know if Biden is able to be involved. His cognitive ability isn't 100% and someone else seems to be running the show in the background. When he publically says he isn't allowed to do something its obvious. I also don't think its an implosion or even a sign of the future. It might be a wake up call. Obviously there are some major problems right now and unhappy people. If the dems can figure out how to fix things soon the mid terms might not be all bad for them. I think it would help if they were more moderate and could swallow their pride occasionally and say what the previous administration was doing on certain issues like the border weren't all bad. They need to do what's right for the country and its citizens instead of some progressive wish list. As much as I want to blame them, Its not all the democrats fault either. Both sides need to work together which they've been incapable of doing for a decade. Unfortunately I don't see that changing anytime soon.

  18. The party in the White House has lost VA. and NJ. the following year for the last forty years. This year the Dems only lost one of the the two and somehow it's an implosion.

  19. On Posey, I mean I get it but I don get it, why he's this sure fire first ballot hall of famer. His counting numbers are bad, even for a catcher. 158 homers, 729 RBI, 1500 hits. One year with an OPS above .900. Compare that to say...Bill Freehan. 200 homers, 758 RBI and 1591 hits. and 0 years with an OPS above .900. Now sure Freehan played in some 400 odd games more, but its just an example to show that Posey's counting offensive stats are pretty pedestrian. (and let's not forget freehan's prime years were dead ball era 2 of 1968). They aren't the end all be all, and i know what the saber and defense shows, but its part of the pie and I don't quite get this thought that he should get 99.72 percent of hall of fame votes on fthe first try.

  22. He's not a co-starter, his lefthanded bat means he'll get 450 PA's. And he hits just fine from the number 9 spot. It is a terrific deal, for those who never want to see Greiner or Garneau again.

  23. Al with a clever move. The thread in the other board (a board which is now a gambler's anonymous honeytrap) about firing Al by Memorial Day seems like a distant memory.

  24. If the Tigers were targeting Barnhart one way or another, this was the best way. I'm guessing the Reds would probably not have exercised the option, making Barnhart a free agent, meaning we would have had to compete for him with a few other teams. That would have driven his price up to eight figures and multiple years, and we may still not have gotten him. This way, we get him for one year, which is the important part, and at a price we can certainly afford. He may hit adequately or he may hit horribly, but either way, he can handle pitchers and frame pitches, and for a year during which we're not due to seriously contend, that should be enough.

  25. Solid deal. Kind of a So-So player but one that fills a need that will still provide value given the context of the Tiger's weakness at the position. And sure, it's mostly about the salary. Agreed $7.5 does seem high for what Burkhardt can do but it's a seller's market in catchers. Quintana's chances of turning into anything are vary small at this point. He's just enough to call it a trade rather than a pure contract dump.

  26. I don't know the agreement and I doubt you do either. I really don't beleive there was a plan in place to leave equipment behind. From whats been said it sounds like in the agreement with the Taliban is they basically had to behave or we would be back. The problem with the withdrawal is the Biden Administration let the Taliban dictate the terms when they got to Kabul. The US is the biggest badasses on the block and sometimes we have to act like it instead of being led around by terrorists because we don't want to anger or offend them.
