Sounds like the definition of the National Guard which is already in place in every state. Now if all gun owners were willing to undergo physicals, do the yearly training exercises and attend the monthly (or quarterly) meetings....2 points

Rand Paul is not really a libertarian. He is a phony opportunist. Justin Amash is an example of a libertarian.1 point

1) california wont do that. its click bait politics. 2) the supreme court was asked the question of whether the abortion providers' lawsuit for injunctive relief could proceed against a slate of government defendants. remember, the law is constructed in a way to avoid such a request for injunctive relief to proceed by making private citizens rather than government officials as the "enforcers" of the law. the theory being the abortion providers would have no standing to sue until someone had attempted to enforce the law. ultimately, the supreme court held that the suit for injunctive relief could proceed against certain defendants but not all defendants. so the abortion providers "won". the court ruled narrowly on the narrow question that was presented to it by a vote of 8-1. only thomas - who is not a fan of any injunctive relief petitions in general - dissented from that part of the ruling. there were two concurring/dissenting opinions. one from roberts and one from sotomayor. both would have allowed the injunctive relief suit to proceed against all of the defendants and thrown out the law. roberts' was a short opinion on how the supreme court is the ultimate arbiter of the constitutionality of the law and that this texas law was a bunch of legal shenanigans designed to avoid judicial review and the court shouldnt allow that to happen. sotomayor was about how the court should have overturned the law because its obviously unconstitutional. i think the concurrence/dissent is ultimately right and they should have overturned the law. i think the actual effect of the decision will be to send it back to the 5th circuit and they will decide on the injunction, so it would ultimately be ruled unconstitutional anyway. this was just a matter of standing. that said, the real action on abortion is the dodds decision. it will be interesting to see if roberts can craft a narrow decision that preserves some of casey. the oral argument didnt go particularly well for the pro abortion side and most people seem to think they will overturn it in some manner. i think roberts would like to keep parts of it (probably the right to "privacy" portion) but get rid of the viability portion. im not sure he has the votes to do that.1 point

You don't care for Chuck Todd? For hosts and panelists who begin every sentence with "Look"?1 point

I think their problem is 5+ bad faith justices on the supreme court that will pick and choose what and who's rights are saved and destroyed based on their personal preferences only.1 point

History is lousy with examples of an entrenched minority ruling over a majority basically against their will. Just because it’s the 21st century doesn’t mean were beyond the possibility of that happening again. And the current minority here in America is methodically undertaking the process of entrenching themselves by using the system itself to destroy that very system. That’s the first chapter of the autocracy playbook.1 point

I want to reiterate that the title of this thread is "Cleanup on Aisle Lunatic" We can't resort to lunatic behavior to cleanup the RW lunatics. That's how those idiots win. The rule of law must be the foundation of any effort to bolster democracy. State violence is only valid and appropriate when it is back by the law and the constitution. This is why this is a dangerous time. i can't even guess that we'd prevail and in fact many democracies do fail because anti-democratic forces have many advantages.1 point

The Bluetooth piece was a thing of beauty coming from the same folks who screamed about Hillary Clinton and data security back in 2016. Almost like they are creating stuff to complain about.1 point

Someday we get a constitutional convention when CA tells the rest of country to either rebalance representation or they are seceding. The US needs CA a lot more than CA need the US. There won't a civil war to hold the union together this time.1 point

That's exactly why I keep saying that election security is important.1 point

what did people think biden was going to be? he's been fine. made the important call on afghanistan. inflation isnt his fault and they're trying - finally - to do something about infrastructure. he has to craft legislation that can get passed by sinema and manchin in the senate while trying to make the left wing of the democratic house happy. that's a tall order. and heck, the economy is doing well right now all things considered. they've got another year to get anything done before they get waxed in the midterms.1 point

It wouldn’t matter. What could Atlanta do about it? Nothing. They can’t vote them out. Yes it won’t be legitimate but… what does that mean? We are evolving to majority by geography. The cities, which will have more people, will be governed by the rural because they will outnumber cities in terms of representation in the legislatures. the goal of the GOP isn’t legitimacy or honor. It’s power. By any means necessary. So what if people in Washington are unhappy. Or a bunch of lib labs.1 point

I love how "worst inflation since 1982" doesn't make anyone think "why would we want to elect those that herald policies that had this mess in 1982 when there wasn't a worldwide pandemic going on"1 point

I’ll go back to my previous post: Archie, and other people that continue to spout the lies about the validity of the 2020 election have no honor. They are liars, and do not believe in the US constitution or the rule of law. They are anti-American by default. They deserve nothing but contempt.1 point

For C-MO's grand slam I remember AJ Pierzynsky standing right in his spot at home plate, not budging, for the celebration. Bumping into guys. That's why I like him. He didn't do anything wrong. He's got a right to be there. For Pudge's HR we were with friends in Windsor having a cookout listening on the radio. We went nuts. It was August. For my birthday that year, which was game 4 of the ALDS, my son made me a card with #9 and #28 on it. I still have it. I got a Tigers road jersey that I've worn to 90% of games since then.... probably going to retire it this year. It still fits but getting worn out.1 point

That 76 team, with its losing record, provided as much or more enjoyment than any other team in my lifetime. And those 1960s teams before 1968 were so much fun to follow, good teams every year. I don't need a World Series to have a good year following baseball.1 point

The thing that shows the power of the 2006 experience for me is that every time people start talking about specific 2006 memories, I start to get emotional, remembering other awesome things like: - C-Mo's Grand Slam against the White Sox (I was working on rebuilding the soffits on my house and almost sawed my arm off when he hit that) - C-Mo's HR against the Yanks (my wife and I were on a date night and I heard that in the car before we went to catch a late movie) - Thames' HR against Minnesota to cap a 33-1 weekend series blowout (I took my four little kids ages 2 - 6 to the game on a lark after Church, my Church was in downtown Detroit), Thames was my favorite Tiger that year - Pudge's HR against Carmona (and Dan D's call) - A Tigers-themed birthday party that we had for my two oldest sons in October (both of my oldest sons' BDs are in October) My word, that season was just incredible.1 point

I'm not sure anything we saw from 2011-2014 could top several moments in 2006: 1) Magglio's home run 2) Kenny Rogers shutting down the Yankees in game 3 3) ALCS game 4 The post game celebration after the Yankees encompassed 20 years of frustration and losing seasons. Just a week prior the team collapsed against the Royals and lost the division on the final day and it seemed like a great season was being relegated to a flimsy wild card berth and a sweep against the Yankees, especially after game 1. I am not sure anything going forward will ever top that season and over time the WS loss to the Cardinals is longer in the memory bank. We had a sundae with no cherry is the way I view 2006. Would have been nice but not necessary to enjoy.1 point

I was too young to experience the great Tigers teams of the 80s or atleast appreciate them anyways so up until 2006 really all I knew of Tigers baseball were terrible teams that's why that one was so special to me. I really didn't keep up with prospects at that time so I didn't know anything about guys like Verlander and Zumaya until reading a report from Peter Gammons. He was still working for ESPN at the time and he would do a write up of each team throughout Spring Training and I remember him saying something like "Out of all the pitchers I've seen thus far no pair of arms looked as impressive as Justin Verlander and Joel Zumaya", he then threw out a comp of Nolan Ryan for Verlander. So the home opener my buddy and I are waiting in line to use the bathroom and I said how Gammons compared Verlander to Nolan Ryan, a few people overheard me and said that is stupid and he probably won't amount to anything. Weird how you can remember such a random inconsequential thing but that little conversation is something I'll never forget.1 point

2006 is special to me because it's the first time I saw the Tigers... 1. Have a winning record 2. See the Tigers in the playoffs 3. See the Tigers in the World Series That was such a fun year after all my life of being a fan was just watching the Tigers being cellar dwellers.1 point
