I've waited in the right lane for people to cross before turning once I get the green, and I have experienced cars behind me honking at me, presumably because they felt I could have rushed a turn in front of the pedestrain starting to cross. To paraphrase Matthew 26:11, "For ye have the dickheads always with you ..."2 points

There is view among some cyclists I have ridden with that you need to 'take the space' the law allows you. My take is the that law on paper can't trump the laws of physics, which say you are pretty much dead when the other guy doesn't know the rules you want to play by....π2 points

My favorite Comerica Park story...I was there with my young daughter probably back in the mid-2000s. The team was bad enough that the stadium was pretty empty. We walked behind the CF camera well and noticed the door was open a crack and no one was broadcasting that day. So, we stepped in and watched an inning and a half from the CF camera well. It was amazing how clearly you could see the pitches moving even from that distance. After an inning and a half some usher opened the door and asked what we were doing out there. I replied "Just leaving" as we hurried past and disappeared. π2 points

I just had a laugh when i realized what this is: The Halo effect. Hard to attribute a halo to Putin but, yeah...that was it.1 point

The internal logic was all about 'rescuing' the Ukrainians so why you would have to knock out utilities or bomb the cities? Putin is faced now with the reality that he can only conquer Ukraine, not bring it joyously into the Russian bosom. He is probably fine with upping the ante on the carnage, as was done in Georgia, but is the Russian army and populace? Russia may have a tightly controlled press, but even Putin can't keep a hot war in the middle of Europe under a bushel basket when there are millions of families with members on the other side.1 point

Washing groceries was probably something we didn't have to do. And the initial focus on sanitizing everything.1 point

I'v seen no confirmation of Vindman's contention that Gerasimov has been removed, but if Putin starts removing General Staff he better have them shot because they would be the vector for a palace coup.1 point

Not directly related, but this drivers discussion reminds me of when I was first helping my son learn to drive on the highway. I told him there are two types of drivers: psychos driving faster than me and idiots driving slower than me. Assume every other vehicle either has an idiot or a psycho behind the wheel and you will be fine.1 point

To go further, the accuracy of the information was spot on. I defended our intelligence after Iraq, even as I admitted some major issues. But overall, that, plus many other things over the years, had soured me a bit. I was definitely skeptical of not only things you posted, but what I was seeing on much of our MSM related to 'intelligence sources'. I will say this has restored some faith in our intelligence. To the original point, Biden and his administration get props for using that intelligence so well.1 point

Burn down all the stadiums that were publicly funded. You want a new one? YOU pay for it!1 point

The most sensible scenario to prepare for is the 3 days without power and water scenario. That is one that is VERY likely to occur if you are in a hurricane area anyway.1 point

the owners have a really good system that guarantees them a lot of profits. i can see why they dont want to change it substantially. the problem for me is that owners want to institute necessary changes in the pace of play and the players wont agree to it without getting more money. i wonder what the dymanic behind the scenes within the ownership group is? the big owners surely want to pay less revenue sharing and less tax, but the small owners want more revenue sharing and dont give a damn about the tax. small owners probably dont want arbitration messed with at all, and probably dont want to increase minimum salaries. how do the players - who obviously side with big spending big markets - split them from the small owners and get enough middle market owners to embrace a more moderate position? an international draft? give up some of the salary increases for first three years in exchange for a higher luxury tax ceiling?1 point

The Ukrainians have done what the US Media failed miserably at. They made those stupid assholes bitching about "muh freedom" because they had to wear cloth over their face or get a life saving vaccine look like total idiots. Yeah, Bubba, you were so brave to walk into the 7-11 in your tactical gear and assault weapon and berate the teenage girl who asked you to wear a mask. Not easily "inspired", but damn those Ukranians are bad ass.1 point
