He was fucking gesturing for him to pick a chair among those located right fucking there. Jesus. How fucking stupid are people. I made the exact gesture not 30 minutes ago on a walk when I came across a guy walking a dog in order to let him go in front of me. This isn't hard.5 points

I will say I am glad we are back in the eastern time zone so I can go to bed disappointed earlier in the evening.2 points

My issue is that starting pitchers are getting used less and less so in turn their value is less and less so using an early pick on one seems like a waste. Like now teams are giving their SPs 175 innings a year max and in most cases around 150, considering you play roughly 1500 innings a year of baseball that is just a tiny fraction of innings that they effect in any given season. They'd almost have to turn out to be an ace to have any lasting effect on the team.2 points

I honestly didn't know there was confusion as I thought it was pretty clear. I was confused why I was being quizzed on the cloud. I thought I was going to be told that my cameras are still being access by Dominion Voting Systems via an Italian satellite.1 point

I just have to say …. That’s really lame to interpret what’s on that clip as “someone shaking hands with nobody”. Equally lame is sharing the post, which seems to indicate that you are agreeing with the interpretation. As someone who took care of a senior person, my father, with dementia for more than 10 years, (luckily it was slow moving until the last year or so), I can tell you absolutely that all this mudslinging that have been thrown in Biden direction, insinuating he’s suffering from dementia, are just incredibly insulting, because they are so inaccurate. I hope you never have to learn about the truth of this condition from close up.1 point

Those are all valid reasons. What is not a valid reason is gesturing towards a chair. Thinking that means he is trying to shake a persons hand that isn’t there therefore isn’t mentally capable is quite ironic. Anyone who would think that shouldn’t be around heavy machinery or knives.1 point

I don't understand the confusion here. Cameras are hard wired to a hard drive in his basement. No internet, no cloud.1 point

I thought Cossa looked okay at best in the first game (played the first two periods). He made a couple nice saves but also one goal by Ethan Phillips was a long range shot that beat him cleanly on the glove side. He looks like a kid still getting used to his body and not comfortable with everything yet. I thought his movement was choppy/awkward on the Phillips goal and his glove hand was awfully positioned. But it is also a 3 on 3 tournament where he saw a lot of breakaways/odd man rushes so a different beast. Game 2 is great to watch so far, Edvinsson on one side and Kasper on the other. Edvinsson looks good for showing up this morning from Sweden and apparently wearing borrowed gear (he does look tired as hell though). Kasper looks really good. Amadeus Lombardi has some skill and Viro looks nice on defense. It is nice seeing Mazur and Wallinder too.1 point

If we're going to actually be a draft and development team, which I think every one of us in here, and hopefully in the Tigers Org, top-to-bottom, wants, then... We're drafting both pitchers and position players. There may be a preference for position players in the 1st and pitchers outside the 1st... or vice verse... But, it doesn't matter. If we only select pitchers in the 1st; we still have to develop more than just 1st rounders, which includes a couple position players outside the 1st. And if we are SUPPOSED to be a D&D team, them we HAVE to be able to do that. So I'll go back to my BPA mantra for the 1st, and not care so much (I AM weighted more towards position players but am flexible enough for either) whether it is position versus pitcher. By the same token, if we draft only position players in the 1st, we STILL have to be able to develop a couple pitchers outside the 1st... which we appear to be capable of doing. I think we can do the same with position players (develop some outside of 1st rounders...); but those guys are still percolating up through the minors so we haven't seen the MLB results of that yet... Just my 2 cents.1 point

We actually signed Wilmer Flores and some other undrafted pitchers after the short 5-round draft that year. So technically, in the draft, yes; but effectively, no.1 point

Seems like I hear the phrase “you can’t have too much pitching” most often when a team stockpiles pitching at the expense of hitting. That’s been the Tigers’ MO, and that phrase has been used in their defense repeatedly during this process.1 point

12th pick is a little over $4.5M, so if they floated $4M and he was amenable, that gives them some flexibility at 51 and/or 1171 point

Pitch counts? Innings limitations? Have the clubbie make sure you have a few heaters available in the dugour, throw your CG, pound a few Budweisers while icing your arm afterwards, and then call it a day.1 point

The one thing from all the signings yesterday is not only do they plug up holes in the roster, but every player has good size. The Red Wings are going to be a big team, and soon. Especially when Elmer, Edvinsson and Wallinder are up.1 point

I worry about the Tigers. Illitch stumbled into a winner with Stevie, and I think Yzerman will have the Wings competing at a high level in the next five years. It would be sooner if the top of the East weren't so stacked at the moment. Some questionable moves today were brought up here, but I think he's brilliant and making more right moves than wrong, and I think with hockey's salary cap he's likely given free rein over the direction of the team. The Lions seem to be moving in a truly universally positive direction for the first time in most of our lives, so expect the meteor to kill us all at any moment. The Pistons (though I am admittedly least knowledgable about) seem to be getting a little lucky and making smart moves that will get them out of the basement sooner rather than later. And then there are the Tigers. They just seem destined to be in purgatory for the next 10+ years. They have one of the best managers in baseball and he's struggling to get a team that should definitely be competing by now to 0.500. Ownership completely dismantled a team that should realistically still be competing for championships with the sheer amount of talent they had, nonsensically fired a HOF caliber General Manager in the process, only to hire his assistant to fill his role ever since? Worse, there is really no end in sight, short of Hinch pressing the issue about Avila and Illitch getting incredibly lucky in identifying a replacement (or outsourcing the search to Hinch). And the possibility of that sequence occurring (not to mention Illitch opening the checkbook a little wider) seems incredibly remote considering there is no HOF legend of a player/executive just waiting for a call to join this team. It's sad to think we could be in another 1988-2006 run here. (not really Wings offseason related, but came to mind and it's a free country dammit! Lol)1 point

Anyone know when the free agency period begins for teams in the Pacific Division? Weakest division in hockey gets weaker with Gaudreau, Burns, and Pacioretty leaving and zero FA of note signed by any of the 8 teams today.1 point

Defensive metrics bounce around a lot from year to year. A good defender should have plus signs every year, but it's not precise like hitting stats. +21 could be out of whack due to randomness or because of shifts. I don't know how much Statcast does to factor shifts into the equation. My original post was in response to someone who said that Schoop is a solid defender which I think the annual stats show to be true.1 point

Updates on Rogers and Turnbull: … Starting pitcher Spencer Turnbull, recovering from Tommy John surgery, is throwing off the mound in Lakeland. “That’s a great step,” Hinch said. “It’s still a long road back but getting off the mound for the first time has to be a positive for him mentally. Just to be back being a pitcher again.” … Catcher Jake Rogers, also coming off Tommy John surgery, is getting closer to a rehab assignment. Hinch said he’s ready to do just about everything on the field, but he has to get his arm built up more before they start the 20-day rehab assignment clock. “We can’t get him live at-bats until he can do everything because that starts the clock,” Hinch said. “Once he starts playing (games), he’s got 20 days to where we either have to option him or bring him to the big leagues. We’re going to make sure he can be a complete player before he's back."1 point

He has never been close to this bad as a hitter. And he is still only 30. Maybe he's done, but I would bet he has a season next year closer to his norm. If he does he's worth keeping.1 point
