  1. service can even mean something like coaching a youth sports team or being a scout leader. Heck, even officiating youth sports. That is an industry that will be hurting very soon.

  2. He has 17 TDs and 2 INTs in his last 7 games. I'm not sure what else can be expected of him. He's missed some throws but who doesn't? I say this as somebody who was not a Goff fan at all at the time of trade but he's been good pretty much since Lynn was let go and they let him throw beyond 3 yards. If an upgrade is available (Lamar for instance) then it should be explored but I actually think this offense suits Goff very well with the elite offensive line, good running game and guys like Swift and Amon Ra who live in the intermediate and closer range are benefitting greatly from an accurate QB like Goff. I see your concerns with Jamo's potential not being maximized because Goff isn't great on the long range throw but Jamo is much more than just a run deep and catch guy so he'll be fine. Minnesota will be a good test. Lions QBs typcially get eaten alive in Minnesota for as long as I can remember so if they can put up a good offensive performance in that stadium, I'd be impressed even if this isn't a vintage Minny defense.

  3. Not much to dislike about this trade. The Pistons got the better player who fills a bigger need, the better trade chip if need be and clear even more cap space next offseason. Weaver's been killing it the last few trades after a few questionable ones in the past. Confusing trade for Utah but Ainge is a confusing GM (president or whatever his title is over there).

  4. I'll be at the Erie game tonight and if necessary tomorrow too. . . I live in Richmond, so this has been a fun week or so. Caught the last three games when Erie was here last week, and Serretti was impressive. Everything he hit was loud and solid. Madden showed great stuff last week but made a few mistakes that were hit out. Hopefully he eliminates those tonight and the bats show up again.

  6. it sort of weird in the NBA right now - the big men can dominate statistically in the regular season, but the guard/swing dominated teams can run them off the court in the playoffs. Makes "who is better" an 'it depends' question.

  8. I see Steph at 5 and I think there is no way 4 players are better than him but then you see the 4 ahead of him and its hard to say if he is better than any of them right now. Personally I think Id probably put him ahead of Embiid but not sure I could go any higher.

  9. And then we need to give youth sports officials the power of arrest! (typed by a man who manages a youth sports league)

  10. based on the story in the News this pretty thin. Slotkin moved to Lansing area due to redistricting. She's renting a condo, at $2K a month, from someone who recently moved to CT. That someone is linked to a company that has does business with the US Gov't for many years. That company has had support from many members of congress from both parties and both they are their competitors have been awarded contracts. A quick check on furnished Condos in Lansing showed that's a normal price. She's not overpaying and he's not under charging.

  11. the problem is there are way more 18 yr olds than the military can use - it's a professional army now and they don't want lots of guys for one or two years, they want people who stay long enough to develop deep skills. If you are are going to do a national youth service program the military would only be a small piece of the program today - the rest would have to be civil services - and you end up with a political problems doing that because if you have a million youth doing some public service, you are probably displacing some people today who are gettin paid to do some of it. Those aren't impossible impediments to a national program but it's the kind of thing that reduces political enthusiasm for it as soon as it ever moves past the talking stage.

  12. I'm going to be curious to see if they (try to) carry fewer pitchers next season. Sounded like Harris was talking about a deeper position rotation with more flexibility to matchup against oppostion pitching. That would normally imply more lef/right options but that requires a longer bench. The current (past) regime used a very long bullpen and tried to make up for the short bench with switch hitters, but the problem is we've had too many guys who have been switch hitters in name only, and in particular switch hitters who have not hit RHP well.

  15. I brought this up a few months ago. Housing prices will remain high if nobody wants to sell and get off of their insanely low interest rate. After Years of Low Mortgage Rates, Home Sellers Are Scarce
