  1. My biggest problem is that a lot of the more skeptical arguments made against providing support, not necessarily by ewsieg but more on the ends of the horseshoe, tends to couch their skepticism toward providing support or their desire to achieving diplomacy with Putin in some sort of humanitarian concern about the Ukrainians, but which ultimately isn't shared by the almost all actual Ukrainians. You know, the ones actually fighting this war and dying to preserve their ability to self determination and for their identity. As much as the Glenn Greenwald types love to screech about elitism, isn't it also kind of elitist to also advance a narrative that the Ukrainians need to end the war over his concerns about death and destruction when the Ukrainians dying to preserve their country don't actually agree or place the same value on his concerns? Doesn't that matter at all? Put another way, I would rather people be intellectually honest and just say they don't give a **** about Russian imperialism instead of couching their concern in humanitarianism. Because if they cared about the latter, they'd actually listen to the Ukrainians as opposed to just marginalizing their views.

  3. A couple of things: this was a war of choice, and the choice was made by one person and one person alone. Vladimir Putin. The United States, Ukraine, or anyone else did not make that choice. He did. I find it odd that you are not directing any of your ire toward him. Secondly, basically none of Russia's stated objectives at the beginning of the war have come to pass. They did not decapitate the Ukrainian government, they did not install a "de-nazified", pro-Russian government. They basically haven't been able to hold any land on the west side of the Dnieper River and, when it is all said and done, will have send over 100,000 of their troops into the meat grinder to die for, what, exactly? They have achieved very little, and have watched their military get wiped out by a country who, as you put has, has a GDP the size of Nebraska. Given that, I don't know how one can objectively look at that report card based on the objectives that the Russian government laid out at the beginning of the invasion that they chose to embark on and declare that they are "NOT losing" this war.

  4. Jaymo is a first round pick. We add two more next season, along with two seconds and a third. That is potentially six new starters. Now you have a rebuild. Until then, all of the hot seat talk is meaningless.

  5. This is always a close if not quite 'what-a-bout' arg that I don't really like. Granted, you can't do everything everywhere, but how could you ask for a better opportunity than 40 million people on the East gate of the 1st world just begging for nothing more than the help to do the job themselves? It's every foreign policy objective of the US for the last 70 yrs served up a silver (well, blue and yellow) platter and carries the support of every major ally. It's exactly everything Vietnam and Iraq and Afghanistan were not. Do you just go bomb Moscow? No. But there is a way to put the Ukrainians in a winning position without starting WWIII. I think we have been close the correct track: keep upping the military capabilities of Ukraine so that options slowly close off to Russia one by one. This is 100% the frog in boiling water paradigm. You have to normalize each level of losing for the Russians before you go the next one. You want the situation for Russia to become hopeless, not dire. It's true that a Ukrainian might see this as a cynical way to fight the battle that asks greater sacrifices of them than if a NATO force just stormed right up to the Russian border, but you have to deal with peace after the war as well, and while I think we all want some kind of political upheaval in Russia, I don't think anyone wants to risk the possible consequences of its total collapse.

  6. Middle of June, MCDC shows up with the bus at the SB Champ's winning facility. SB Champ has a game go into OT on the Lions bye week? There's Dan Campbell, cashing it in. Midway through the NFL Draft, Frank Ragnow takes the podium and instead of announcing the pick, cashes it in. Would make millions.

  7. Sheila should stop being nice to the NFL and letting them use our stadium when it's too "cold" or "snowy" for the dumb franchises who built a stadium in Buffalo without a roof or in Minnesota with a lousy roof. My list of demands include: - An extra 1st Round Pick in every draft until we get one right. - Josh Allen has to play for the Lions on Thursday - Sheila gets to own Washington too, but uses them as a Minor League franchise for the Lions - A "Money in the Bank" card that allows the Lions to play the Super Bowl champion at any time in the next year and if they win, they get named champion. - Green Bay gets stripped of all wins in the Aaron Rodgers and Brett Favre eras and the NFL publicly admits that both of them are kind of a dick.

  10. Actually, that's probably a bit heavy handed to fans of the Nets. I'd amend to say, its great to see a couple of malcontents like Durant & Irving fail spectacularly at their attempt to run a team.

  11. Personally I think its great to see the super trio of Durant/Irving/Simmons drive a team into the ground.

  12. Damn KD throwing the guys right under the bus. It would've been bad enough to say something like "We just don't have the talent level of some of the top teams in the league" or something to that effect but he took it a step forward by actually using the guys names. Horrible comments aside he's not necessarily wrong about the talent level, it's crazy to see Brooklyn's fall from grace from that standpoint, a year or two ago it felt like they were loaded with All Star level talent now not so much. Gotta love it!

  14. An under appreciated result of this war has been the total devaluation of Russian military tech. Nobody with any sense would buy it and think it would be anything but garbage. If that keeps the thugs in the Kremlin and the palaces of Sochi from earning just that much more hard currency, all to the good. If the devaluation of Russian military tech deflates their political capital just a bit more it is also all to the good. Fewer opportunities to bribe the NRA and other GOP-affiliates. Fewer opportunities to work the back allies of the underworld. Fewer threats to US and allied politicians of blackmail. Incremental Good we should all be happy to support. And all it costs us was a fraction of our military budget. And it allowed us to show the Chinese that they should not sleep on Western military tech. You may be able to shatter Taiwan, and Okinawa with your missiles. You might be able to lodge on the coast of Taiwan. But if you do, we are coming for you and we have a very, very accurate big stick. And it will kick your ass.

  15. "Scapegoated Aubry Pleasant" even though the secondary has played much better in his absence. The Jets are farther along in their rebuild than the Lions. Douglas is on his second head coach and they traded their best player and received the full compensation already. The Lions still haven't received their return on the Stafford trade.

  16. I get that the Ravens controlled most of that game, but the Giants fought all the way until the end and won. I feel however that just as Campbell deserves credit for bringing this team back against the Bears to pull out a win, Daboll deserves similar credit for keeping his team in it and rallying back in the 4th quarter to win against the Ravens. The Giants were within one score of beating the Cowboys. We weren't even within two scores of the Cowboys. They looked competitive and we did not. The Giants may well prove to be frauds, as the Jets and Seahawks might too. The reason I focus on the Giants and Jets the most though is several reasons, Seahawks are different because of Pete Carroll and their GM John Schneider having been there for a long time. First, those were two teams thought to be in similar stages of the rebuild as the Lions and early season indicators are that they are ahead of us. I knew our rebuild would likely be a 3 year process given how bad this roster was when Campbell and Holmes took over. Analysts and experts had the Giants and Jets rosters in similar situations and both teams have come out and been surprise teams thus far. Second, it would be one thing if both of these teams were winning with elite-level QB play, but they aren't. Neither Daniel Jones nor Zach Wilson/Joe Flacco are out performing Goff. They are at best as good as Goff, but potentially worse than Goff and they are still winning games in spite of that. We had a top 5 offense through the first 5 weeks of the season, in a league predicated on offense to win game, and came out with one win. Third, they are being coached by two guys I wanted here in Detroit over Campbell in Daboll and Saleh. Neither Daboll nor Saleh has had to fire a coordinator yet. Campbell already had to fire one and scapegoated Aubrey Pleasant in lieu of having to fire Aaron Glenn. I didn't hate the Campbell hire and I don't hate him as a coach now. It's just frustrating when you see two teams that most analysts and experts had pegged to be competing for a top 5 pick along with us, instead in the playoff hunt midseason. It's also frustrating when you look at the offensive stats of a team, allow yourself to buy in as a result of that offensive production, and then have the rug pulled out from under you by a terrible defense and coaching mistakes. I want the Lions to win on Sunday so me and other fans can shut up about the Giants and Daboll. Then, I want to go and beat the Jets so we can all shut up about the Jets and Saleh. I want them to win because I'd like to see them make the back half of this season interesting and maybe make a shot at the wildcard playoff spot. When you lose to a coach that is having more success than your guy and someone that people (myself or otherwise) wanted in Detroit, it just makes it that much harder and more frustrating. It also brings out all the second guessing and finger pointing, see, we should have hired "Coach X" over our guy.

  17. It's close but I think a Tigers hat as of now but personally I really don't care either way, things like that don't interest me one way or another. Theres a bunch of Hall of Famers that have played for multiple teams that I couldn't tell you who's hat they wore going in.

  19. Oy vey. All I said is “let’s wait to find out what happened”. 😂 BTw, I still think Russia is at fault because of THEIR barrage of strikes on civilian centers that day. They’re the aggressor. From the start. And I think we have to continue to arm Ukraine, and do it NOW while Russia is in a weaker position , so that Russia doesn’t rebuild its arsenal and its army by spring.

  21. The way I see it, Harold, Willi and Kody are all vying for the same role as the super utility guy. Harold should be the first to go. Willi is more experience and polished, Kody is younger (but not much), cheaper, and has more power potential. I think they battle it out in the spring and if Kody can prove he can hit, he should have the inside track. Very big if there. If you are going to release one of the two, I think Kody would have a better shot at making it through waivers and resigning.
