Planet Fitness determined $10 was the point at which people tend to stay on. Of course saying “you will go back to the gym” and watching sports is not quite the same but I can see mentally where people let things go at $10 and under.3 points

I don’t know… when my wife’s ICU was filled with COVID patients who didn’t get the vaccine and has yet to be filled with people from side effects by getting the vaccine…. That tells me the vaccine itself is safer than COVID so why not take something that’s cost free and will probably help you if infected. It’s not a guarantee but nothing is. I mean… I’m not going to not invest in stocks because I heard a guy got ripped off. Life is a gamble but it’s up to us to learn the odds. Many of the odds are heavily weighed in your favor. Take them.3 points

I remember getting a pull out CD player installed at Highland in Dearborn. The store was in one location and the install was out of some alley down the street. I can picture the store. I paced around once deciding whether to spend the $35 for a "Caller ID" box. Of course any Detroit commercial discussion is incomplete without this masterpiece.2 points

Kind of makes one wonder where this will all be in 5, 10, 15 years. How many offerings will be purely a la carte on their own, how many will be bundled? Will sports teams be predominately on their own app/channel or will cities/regions package multiple sports, or will leagues take control of all of their teams? Old enough to remember when the local cable company had an "A" side and a "B" side that needed to be manually flipped. Don't remember why they went 2-30 on either side rather than go 2-60 with no A/B, its just what we had to deal with.2 points

if the regiona RSNs are defunct they need to just open up gameday into one national service - pay the fee, watch any game, anytime. Nothing better you could do for the fan base. Of course you are going to have teams that are too greedy to let their TV revenue come back to them through the league.1 point

I loved the fact the Nets owner basically said to trade him anywhere but the Lakers since that's where he wanted to go most. I love that level of spitefulness against these players that want to pick and choose where they go after demanding to be traded.1 point

Yes, don't get me wrong, those moves alone would probably still allow for two of Jerry Jacobs, Amani Oruwariye, and Mike Hughes to be on the team as depth, and that's not in the team's best interests. They need depth badly as well, but depth can be found even later than the 2nd round or for much cheaper than Dean.1 point

I think it's cord cutting combined with Bally not playing nice with online streaming services. I don't know anyone with cable anymore. I know several who have live tv streaming subscriptions, though. I got YouTube TV a few years ago expecting to finally get to watch the Tigers again. Then I realized Bally wasn't on there. What a waste. But if you look at video game sales data, the MLB The Show series is more popular than ever. In 2022 it was on the top ten selling Playstation games despite it also being available on the Nintendo Switch and for free with a Game Pass subscription on the XBox. They desperately need to figure out video broadcasting availability to J6Ps. I'm a huge fan turning into a lapsed one through a combination of a miserable team and an impossibly complicated, expensive, and/or restricted access to viewing live games.1 point

I keep thinking back to Holmes first draft and Sheila asking Holmes when they were going to draft a receiver and Holmes was like don't worry I got this and drafted one of the best receivers in the draft in the 4th round. I could see something similar happening.1 point

Modern Marvels, Aerial America, and How It's Made. I could watch those shows non-stop.1 point

One of those channels had a show called "How the States Got Their Shapes" which, well, the title kind of explains it. Another show was called "Aerial (State/Region)" which showed drone/airplane footage of different geographical parts of a state and touched on historical significance. I'm a map nerd and I love me some map porn, so these shows were great. Pretty sure they were before COVID, but, geez, between Marble Olympics and 2019 International Team Handball Championships, if these map shows were on then, I don't know if I'd have had time to see how my wife and kids were doing.1 point

Of course you would—you spend time in a baseball online forum. I agree that the majority of fans would not pay that premium, especially when the team is largely irrelevant due to lack of marquee players or winning baseball.1 point

I'm paying DirectTV $6/mo for Bally. I'm OK with that but I won't go to $20. If someone who watches as much Tigers and Wings as I do won't, there can't be much of a market out there at that price beyond Edman! 📺❌1 point

I think it figures in the perception of the overall entertainment value even if not the reality - it would for me anyway. If I buy a premium stream, any time on any evening I can find something to stream. A sporting event you have to do on it's schedule and especial for Hockey or Basketball, it's only every other day during the season at best so in terms of paying for availability of a desired entertainment, so I'll take the entertainment stream if the prices are close and I have only 'x' $ to spend. You can DVR stuff (which I do) to make it more 'on demand', but if you are a fan odds are you already got the score. I'll still watch a hockey game after I know the outcome, but I would rate it's value lower, and I nearly never watch a baseball game after the fact unless there is some unique aspect - no hitter kind of thing etc. Obvious this is pretty YMMV kind of personal preference stuff.1 point

People talk about shooting it down over land as if it's NBD, but if any of the debris came down and killed anyone below, I would imagine most the armchair QB types would be singing from a different hymnal.1 point

He told a great story about heckling that I'm sure was shared here. A guy was harassing him in the bullpen, this might have been in Colorado, and Todd sent him a ball and a $10 bill and a note saying "Here's a ball, go get a hot dog and a beer". The fan sent it back with a $20 bill and said "I'm rich, I can buy by own hot dog. You still suck"1 point

Phillips and Tettleton were both underrated and Scott Harris would have salivated over both of those guys.1 point
