Checked out a pawn shop during lunch yesterday and saw a black sparkle Squire Tele with dual humbuckers behind the counter. The clerk quoted me $176, so I asked to try it out. I immediately noticed that it had been smartly modded with Fender locking tuners, Graph Tech nut and string trees and an upgraded bridge. Played on it long enough to determine that it was solid, then bought it. When I got home, a quick check under the control plate revealed upgraded CTS pots and a Sprague Orange Drop cap, all well soldered with braided wiring. Seriously, the upgrades are worth almost as much as a stock version of this guitar, and whoever did the work knew what he was doing. The switch and pups appear to be stock, but it sounds pretty good, and for a sub-$200 guitar, I can justify upgrading them later. I love this thing.2 points

This might be the best Sunday for Lions football in my lifetime.1 point

Let the record reflect that one MichiganCardinal did not panic and remained steadfast in his 12-5 prediction. 😉1 point

St. Brown playing about 75% and he's still great............. Grinding down that clock, methodical.........go get the 7. Nobody could ever come back from a 24-6 deficit in the 4th quarter of a football game. . Oh, sorry Sparty.1 point

I If the Lions are within 6 or have a lead at half time, I think they'll win this game. No worrying. Road games are tough in the NFL.1 point

This is a big reason that some of the biggest opposition to Jordan is reportedly coming from House GOP leadership from the Armed Services committee (Mike Rogers being the figurehead for that set). The fact that Rogers has expressed little to no openness to Jordan and the fact that Rogers supports funding for Ukraine is probably not a coincidence.1 point

I think this is true generally -- that hitting is much less well understood than pitching. From an analysis standpoint, pitching is 100% mechanics. If the pitcher holds the ball a certain way and uses certain muscles to apply certain forces, the result is 100% predictable/reproducible in terms of the result. So while the task may be hard to accomplish, you at least know exactly what it is: get the hand and arm to go from points A to points B. The Tiger coaching staff seems to have this stuff down. But mechanics is only one piece of hitting, which also includes a set of perceptual and reflex issues that fall under the general heading of 'pitch recognition' that are no better understood than most of what the brain does. You may be able to help a hitter change his swing to increase bat speed or shorten his path to the ball, but the level of certainty that any change in swing mechanics improves hitting performance or even effects it in the right way for any particular hitter isn't very good. It's a time problem. Time is no constraint for a pitcher, he does everything he does on his own schedule. But time dominates all considerations for a hitter. He has no control over it and can only react to it and that part of his problem is not one that coaches have many tools to help with.1 point

I’m starting to wonder whether it wouldn’t be merely hilarious rather than existentially dangerous were Jim Jordan to become Speaker. His Speakership would not only further expose huge fault lines in that party, but his zealotry would be on full display all day every day and shine a bright light on the abject terribleness of the party, neither of which would do any favors for them come next November. Not that I believe the guy would be a completely harmless caged gorilla, but I could see a Congress under him mired in such inertia that we’d be essentially in the same spot we are today, rather than far, far worse by a year. The only pause I have is whether there is some way I’m not thinking of that he could use the office to legitimately destroy America, which I believe is his goal, but I’m having trouble coming up with one, outside of his arranging for the successful assassination of Biden and Harris and taking the presidency himself. Outside of that, could he as Speaker render so much destruction?1 point

Cossa named 1st star in a 5-2 win at GR. He stopped 41 of 43 shots. Edvinsson scored a PP goal with a beautiful one-timer1 point

Keith and Malloy will be on the opening day roster. It's way way way too early for Jung, he might not play for the Tigers at all in 2024. I'm not sure that Dingler will ever play for the Tigers, or Wenceel. Bigbie still doesn't understand that he isn't a prospect, so if he hits at Toledo he might get a look in August.1 point

Yet Goff has still not been given any substantial credit for the Rams Super Bowl run or for what has turned into a very successful career. With the graphic that Lions PR put out you would think the debate would be "is this QB on track for a HOF career", not "is this QB worthy of an extension" Even now, with Goff being at the helm of the Lions(!!) seemingly successful rebuild, it's like the national media narrative is that they're doing it despite him, or that it's only because he's got a good offensive line and running game. He went into his last game with Josh Reynolds and Kalif Raymond as his WR1 and WR2 and scored four touchdowns! If he manages to host and win a playoff game here this year, I don't think it's crazy to put him above Matt Stafford and say that Jared Goff is the best QB in Lions history. Look at QB Power Rankings from the preseason though and you'll find Daniel Jones ranked above him. Look at some now and you'll find Brock Purdy ahead of him. I even saw one that had CJ Stroud ahead of him.1 point

that was a really good two periods of hockey. they've been the better team outside of their defense making multiple mistakes. the forwards have been excellent.1 point

i expected gibbs to contribute a little more, but not campbell. lions have quality linebackers already. let campbell learn. he's made a couple plays already, but barnes and anzalone are decent starters and rodriguez is a good backup.1 point
