  1. Not that it's amounted to a ton to-date, but Jobe did sign underslot iirc, which I'm guessing helped getting Ty Madden and Izaac Pacheco signed (Pacheco not looking so hot these days). Same with Max Clark, who deferred some earnings which likely helped bring in Kevin McGonigle. These debates where we hone in on one player (Marcelo Mayer and Wyatt Langford in particular) all miss that nuance IMO. Maybe we all would have had different preferences if we were the ones drafting, but it shouldn't be that hard to see the logic in why they did what they did either.

  2. Also $500,000 in international cap space. You may scoff at that, but look at the prospect the Tigers just got from the Padres for that amount of space (they forfeited double that to sign Bogaerts last year and needed to trade away prospects to be able to sign the guys they had verbals with). With the Tigers apparently playing in the top of the market with their rumored agreement, it is possible that $500K could loom large.

  4. Counter arg is that as part of their development, Cade and Ivy should both learn how to optimize their own and each other's game both together and apart since if they both stay each should be on the floor when the other isn't but also mostly together - QED.

  5. A lot of this assumes that Mayer would have signed with the Tigers at the price he signed with Boston, or that Langford would have signed with the Tigers at the Rangers' price. And in the case if Langford, that the rest of the draft would have fit in place with less pool money to work with. In the case of Mayer, given the Tigers' player dev reputation pre-Garko, it is entirely possible he wanted nothing to do with us and floated a huge number to scare us off him. Not only is it possible, it is likely. There is a reason Harris is really trumpeting player development successes. A strong player dev reputation helps you in putting a draft together in the draft pool era, when you may not have to pay a premium to get players.

  6. 15 people are here 40 minutes early and 13 of us are booing at the patch reveal video.

  7. Call me presumptuous, but I wonder what was the name that Bemboom's family told to the person at the window at Ellis Island or Locust Point, that ended up as 'Bemboom'

  8. all we know is Avila drafted the most risky type of player #3 - a HS pitcher and Harris took the risk of passing on a more proven college bat, who had an absolutely monstrous year, for a HS bat from a cold weather state time will tell if the picks were worth the risk

  9. I didn't think it was a good pick at the time and still prefer position players with top picks, but these are players most of us know little about. The Tigers under, even under Avila, know way more about amateur player than fans do. I trust the Tigers development system more under Harris, but until they succeed in the majors you can't say it's a success. The goal is not to see how many players you place on the top 100 list.

  10. We already know that people will not “come to their senses and reject silly superstitions”. Those silly superstitions are the only way a lot of people can make any sense out of the world. That itself may not make sense to a lot of other people, but the fact is that entire nations and even civilizations have been and still are developed and operated on such superstitions, and even if the superstitions are a fantasy, the effect they have on our world is real, and that has to be dealt with and respected on at least a certain level. The real trick is how to establish compromise in a way that achieves peace while still respecting the beliefs based on things others, especially opponents, don’t believe or even respect. The barrier to that is that many if not most religions, many of the majors included, are completely and unyieldingly opposed to compromise in any form. And the $64 question is, can we ever get there and hold onto it for any number of generations. It’s a balance so tricky that in all these millennia, it still hasn’t been figured out as a bottleable formula yet. And so here we are.

  12. I purchased F1TV for this season and I gotta say, it is very cool. A menu slides out on the right hand side of the screen. You can pick between two different broadcasts. The normal one and one they call international. It has a tracker option that is just a graphic of the track and it shows where each driver is on the track. It has a data page that shows the time for each sector. Each sector is broken down into smaller data bars that turn yellow/green/purple depending on the time. The last thing they have is driver cams. All drivers are available and when you select one you also get their unedited team radio. Well worth the money.

  13. also note what Campbell said in his presser "in this league, everybody gets hurt." I think we will consistently find that when given the option, Holmes/Campbell will opt to have two good players instead of one great one because your depth is going to play as much as your starter. And esp if they can get the two for less than the price of one and have more to spend on another spot.

  14. I enjoy "Finding Your Roots" on PBS. It is interesting when they try to track an AA history as it always seems to end with a Census of a slave owners posessions. They usually look at slaves age of brother sisters to try to find the relatives, super sad. Though there were a few instances were they found former slaves that voted after being freed. Of course this right was rescinded by white supremacist Democrates after the union army left. What was really cool is even after that they showed up in the next election cycle as a re-registred voter. I can only imagine the intimidation and threats they went through to vote.

  15. Hopefully these anquished debates will end as we draft farther and farther down as we win and win more each season.

  17. The Mayer/Jobe debate hasn't even begun. They are both prospects who haven't reached AAA yet. The Tigers could win that debate by a lot or they could lose it by a lot. Like the Wyatt/Clark debate, we won't know the answer for years.

  18. 8-3 final. 6 straight wins. Clearly, "losing" is what the Wings have given up for Lent.

  19. My only request is to maybe wait a few years to come to that conclusion, and to also factor in the rest of the draft made possible by going under slot at #3 overall. Also, it is possible Langford raised his price for the Tigers.

  20. Max has the attitude. He knows he's going to be a superstar. Ultimately, he is going to either a superstar or a bust, because Max aint got no time for mediocrity or average or solid. That's just the way it is.

  21. Reread that and underline the parts "Bauer said", as I stated previously, her basic problem was degree of consent and no corroborating witnesses. The basic facts of Bauer's behavior are beyond dispute, whether or not the woman was motivated by financial gain, or provided misleading testimony.

  22. There's multiple accusers, and one still pending. My understanding from my glance through things yesterday is that the Bauer camp has tried to keep MLB's investigation under wraps. I do suspect whatever MLB uncovered was damning enough to make the severe suspension hold and scare all 30 teams away from him. I also suspect Dan has seen what is in that report, or has been made aware by people in the know what was in it. Meanwhile, we are left wading through muddy waters from partial media, making it tough to find anything close to the truth. Asking the fan to read up when the exact information Dan put out there really isn't out in the public isn't exactly fair, but the way the caller kept going toward the end, you could tell he only ate up the Bauer camp's story using terms like "blackballed." It's tough to separate fact from spin these days, very tough.

  23. You are falling for a very carefully biased and incomplete narrative promulgated by the Bauer camp.

  24. The fact of her injuries is not in dispute. Who caused the injuries is not in dispute. The fact that Bauer gets off on violent acts towards women is not in dispute. The fact that she had some degree of consent made it difficult for her to win in a situation where there were no other witnesses. She did win a fairly large settlement.

  25. To be fair, those were claims made by Bauer’s side. You don’t know the provenance, timing or context of the texts or video.

  26. Fan: Is there a chance they can add somebody like Trevor Bauer? Dan: (interrupting) No on Trevor Bauer. I hope he never gets a chance to play in this league again. Maybe you have another idea, but not Trevor Bauer. Fan: Didn't he get found not guilty? Dan: No, he found a judge who gave him an unbelievably favorable ruling that defied all logic and law. Fan: I thought there was audio tap... Dan: (interrupting) He has serious mental health issues and does not belong in Major League Baseball. Find somebody else because it's not going to be Trevor Bauer. Fan: So he's going to be blackballed. No, I don't have anybody else, he was the guy. I think the guy was framed. Dan: You need to read up on it more. Fan: Wasn't the girl admitting she was scamming Trevor Bauer? Dan: No Caputo: Your basing it on... Bauer on social media thing... He's got an agent who's a very smart person. They've been putting spin on it.. (further rambling backing Dan and smoothing the edges) Dan: Nobody should sign this guy. He basically admitted in court what he did. He found a judge who said because she didn't specifically say she was unconscious that he couldn't do what he did because she didn't say that which is found nowhere in law. That's why he did not face the consequences he should have. That's the guy they want back in the league?

  29. Jews belong in Israel. It's their land, historically (6,000 years ago...? You don't understand "time" very well at all, then.) Europe doesn't want them. And murdered them. And kicked them OUT (multiple times, from multiple countries: Spain, England, Germany, etc., etc.). Which country are you going to ALLOW them to live in, since you want ALL JEWS EXPELLED from Israel? They are NOT WELCOME in Europe, they are NOT ALLOWED to purchase Palestinian land according to you (which they have done for roughly 175 years (since PRE-1947, FYI), and you want them EXPELLED from Israel. So WHERE are you going to allow Israeli Jews to live, if not in their OWN country? I'd like to know where you are going to ALLOW them to live. Or do you just want all the Jews dead because.. that would be easier? I'm just asking.
