  1. I sent this thread to Jones. Lawsuit forthcoming

  2. the first step in straightening out this society will be to start sending people, maybe a lot of people, and especially official people, to jail for perjury. So far we are still going in the wrong direction. More and more official lying, less and less accountability.

  3. What a great game for a national audience to get a good look at a really good team that is still flying under everyone’s radar even with the best record in baseball.

  5. well he did start out with too high a GB rate. So he has to find the optimum middle ground. This wasn't always his approach, it was a change that got him here, so that at least argues he has the capability to change again.

  6. My defense will be that MotownForums is a satirical site and mine is a parody account.

  7. I think Riley has overcompensated on his fly ball approach and pitchers have found the weaknesses in his extreme uppercut swing. I am going to guess that he is going to have to work his way back to an approach that keeps his bat in the zone longer and lets him cover the outside better. He's pretty locked into the inside of the zone so far this season. There was reporting this spring about how he wanted to look for inside pitches - I think the league knows the answer to that is don't throw it there.....

  13. It's not about not trusting your starter in the first. It's about not trusting him to face the top of the lineup a third time through. You use the opener so he can face the bottom of the lineup a third time through, and not the top.

  14. It’s probably matchup dependent, as in, Holton matches up better with the front half of the Cubs’ order so he gets the first time around; then Montero comes in for the back half of the order and gives the front of their order a different look for their second time through.

  15. I think one reason it is done is to throw off the opposition by having he opener pitch with the opposite hand of the starter. They can't load up their line-up with left-handed hitters against the right-handed starter if the opener is a lefty.

  16. OK, let's parse the different meanings of "grit," "edge," "relentlessness," and "attitude." Every successful NHL team has a couple of forwards who are hard to play against, who are going to punish defenders in the corners or in front of the net. The Wings do not have this.

  17. Pitchers used to get cortisone shots in their arms to pitch with no concern for long-term damage...not the healthiest approach

  18. True. Kubek never made any particular impression on me as an announcer. He was just there, which is OK I guess. Garagiola was the best. He just made any game he worked enjoyable - much like Ernie in that regard.

  20. Maybe a combination of things. How many careers were shortened by the "just play thru it philosophies", especially with pitchers? Also the investment in many of the players may play into it, especially in the terms of having multi year contracts vs one year deals. Not to mention player cost

  21. I'm not all that happy with the current state of the Democratic Party but Bombers is more or less right IMO... There is zero harm in acknowledging this I would add this is, at least at this moment, a deeply polarized country, much more deeply polarized than it was in 2008. I agree with the need to break that, but we need to be clear that is something that will not be broken in one Midterm and Presidential election cycle... It's more of a generational problem

  22. I think somebody posted that here and I remarked that Jones is not a catcher name. It's the name of a speedy outfielder.

  23. Skubal's on pace to have a 1.80 FIP with 210IP, if that holds up the only people to do that since WWII would be Gibson in 88, Gooden in 84 and Pedro in 99.

  28. He is definitely the executive who implemented whatever system they have that identifies exactly the skills and makeup needed to win the way they want the game played, and then went out and exploited the hole in the marketplace to bring in affordable guys who can do it.

  30. Not trying to take anything away from Carp because it was a great catch for him. I’m just saying a good fielder would have tracked the ball a little better and not have to fully extend to catch the ball.

  37. Well they knew the court had ordered him repatriated - I would assume they wanted the indictment in hand for when that ultimately happened. With a Trump admin there is always some sideshow going that a distraction is useful for, and there is also some distraction they are cooking up because the next sideshow is envitable. So nothing here is actually out of the ordinary. 🙄

  38. For the life of me I've never understood why they use such hard bases in the majors. I'm sure the umpires like that the surface can't move/flex, but how many arm, foot and knee injuries per year is that worth?
