Dirks made an excellent observation breaking down Wenceel's swing on his 2 run double ...the way he got his hands in and shortened up to pull the ball hard. It was a "baseball player" swing as opposed to just a pure athlete. Not saying Wenceel isn't athletic...but he's definitely a baseball player. The politics of Gaza shouldn’t have anything to do with the mayoral race in NYC. The immigrant population of the city is a heavy majority Caribbean and South American. They don’t care about it. The constituents that care are the large Jewish population and they are on the opposing side of the issue from Mamdani. He’s taken a personal issue and made a large talking point against his campaign policy. This is a problem for him that shouldn’t exist. He’s got to find a way to move completely off Gaza and not make it any issue moving forward. That’s going to be hard to do since the right will be doing everything they can to keep it on the front page.

A bit off track but I found out today that folk singer Woody Guthrie had a song called Old Man Trump in his repertoire. The song describes Fred Trump's racist practices as a landlord. Wenceel amazes me. I though he was done when they moved him off of second but the kid hung in there and has turned into a heck of a ballplayer. Longest tenured in the organization I believe. Seems like I have been reading reports on him forever. He does things right and he is effective. He's been outstanding in his 75 ABs so far. He's moved from 4th outfielder to RF starter and if he can maintain this bat, a star quality outfielder. Hats off.

I don't think we should read too far into this result in regards to the Midterms and honestly think that they will find good candidates in a lot of different places to run and win that fit their districts. But I do think there's a lesson in Cuomo that's part tied in with the sleazy aspects, but also the fact that he was very emblematic of an "old guard" that is holding on and not allowing for the elevation of newer and younger candidates, regardless of ideology. That stuff has to stop... I think it's an underrated dynamic as to why people take such a dim view of the Democratic Party, even despite Trump's falling poll numbers.

I think it's more of an issue no one wants to be mayor of New York. Dems have great centrist candidates across the country.

Perez was an effective hitter in '23. I was surprised that they didn't bring him up when the rosters expanded. He was deserving. I believe that Perez had to overcome the middle infielder bat label and that the Tigers discounted what he did with the bat until they couldn't anymore. It also took them awhile to believe that he had a position and the bat for it.
