I can see them eating Schoop's contract. I question whether his defensive prowess might be exposed once the shift rules come into play. He doesn't seem to be the most rangey middle infielder, and I wonder how much he benefits from the short right field vs left hitters. Maybe it isn't all that much, I don't know. But regardless of that, the bat is just not helpful. The Tigers obviously will have a much better read on Meadows than any of us, but sitting behind the keyboard, I think they need to go with the assumption that a new season will give Meadows's tenure in Detroit a 2nd chance at things. Obviously if he decides that he's done with the game, that opens up the spot. But for now, I think its reasonable to assume that his bat will be in the lineup. And if not, they have enough holes to fill where taking a chance on young players like Carpenter and Baddoo to fill out the OF vs RHPs is fine for now. They need to add a RHH OF to the mix however the Meadows situation plays out.

This is rich coming from someone thinking that Daz Cameron has a future with the Tigers. -

Thanks. And along with those rankings are some good minor league numbers to kind of back it up. I understand he won't be free. Add in the facts that he plays for a team that likes to build from within and that the current starting C Perez is getting some salt to go with the pepper, and he's a tough pull, sure. Heck, they might start looking to get Perez out from behind the plate more while keeping his bat in the lineup. -

What kind of prospect is Melendez? I don't have a clue. He's out up some pretty good minor league numbers. He's been a good enough player for them to get his bat into the lineup as an OF and even DH. If they're asking for one of Greene/Torkelson, than there's no way. -
Watching my daughter's marching band. I'm biased, sure. But this band is really good and a very popular activity for kids to be involved in (140-150 kids out of about 1,000 total high school). And after helping chaperone for a couple of football games and being at the game from that perspective and knowing their summer and daily after school practice schedules (Mon-Thurs including a week of two a days in the summer), it just opened my eyes to all of the work that goes into it.

My guess is that he goes unclaimed. His hitting has been dreadful. If I am remembering this right, I think his defense has always been on the below side of average. He's already 27. I think the stats and the mileage on him make him the type of player teams wouldn't want to protect over a prospect on the teeter totter of the rule 5 draft.

Melendez has quietly put up a reasonable season for a rookie C. He's also played some OF. I doubt Kansas City would move him, he's young and cheap. But a tandem of Melendez/Haase is interesting when you look at the numbers in total. Weird thing about Melendez is that he has shown reverse splits this season (.695 vs RHPs and .894 vs LHPs). -

I probably wasn't clear enough. When I mentioned Lakeland, I was thinking spring training. I'd imagine if he were to be assigned to a minor league team, it'd be AAA. He'll be 28 next March. I can't imagine he'd be in AA unless he completely reworks a swing or has some sort of injury rehab or something of the sort.

I tend to agree with this in principle. But I think part of the problem with this in 2022 was simply the number of pitching injuries throughout the year. A lot of guys were called up and had to be protected because of previous workloads and/or competition level and not knowing how it would work out. And then there is the development of the modern day relief pitcher being specialized to one inning per game that tends to force more populated bullpens. Alexander seems like a guy that could go multiple innings out of the bullpen. They need to find other RPs that can handle this on a more regular basis. Maybe still only once through the batting order, but that should get through 2 IP, maybe squeeze a 3rd IP on occasion if needed. The additional position player on the bench would be nice, and I agree with the platoon options, the substitution options, and the fact that Cabrera, if he's brought back, is likely to be nothing more than a part time hitter with no glove. But let's be honest, the quality of the position players was more questionable than the quantity this season. One of the things that I have always wondered about RPs and their workload is how does all of the BP work before entering into a game factor into pitch counts? In other words, would a RP have a higher/lower workload if say during a week they pitched 4 innings, is there more stress on the arm if those 4 IP came in 4 solo inning outings or in 2 outings or 2 IP each (assuming the same accumulated stat lines)? -

I can’t see claiming him now. I’m not certain of this, but I think the Tigers are going to have enough 40 man questions to begin with. They can cut Short, Cameron, and Lester, those are easy. Maybe a Castro and Candelario are non tendered. But I think they’re going to have to move a few pitchers to create some 40 man spots. All that said, I honestly don’t know who needs to be added this off-season. Maybe it’s a small number so it’s not a big deal. Anywho, Andujar doesn’t seem like someone that will be claimed, he’s struggled since his rookie season. But he’s easily worth a minor league contract with an opt out just to get him to Lakeland and see what’s up. Assuming the Tigers have a different hitting staff, maybe they figure something out. I kind of doubt it, but there’s nothing to lose with a minor league deal.

What happens after geographical alignment and the order of teams in the AL/NL are changed? Heck, what happens if MLB does away with leagues?

Personally I would place the OF & IF at higher priority than SP. I hadn't considered who is available in 2024. -
This is pretty cool.

In fairness to Cron, that "season" in Detroit was COVID 2020 and he only played 13 games. You look at his stats, and that is the outlier "season" for him, but its just a short sample size. Someone like Cron would be great this offseason if they could find one that plays OF and/or 3B. -
Nobody ever points the finger at Ball Park Franks and how they plumped when they were cooked, but I think 1957 and beyond is suspect. Hell, Gates Brown was caught red handed and mustard yellow shirted in the middle of a game.

That's interesting. This brings up the probability of cross country travel in earlier rounds, but there's also the possibility of Portland vs New Orleans or Memphis in the first round, and that ain't exactly a quick trip either. I would like to see reracking of the playoff bracket. Best team remaining faces worst team remaining. If 1 beats 8, 2 beats 7, 6 beats 3, and 4 beats 5, next round would be 1 vs 6 and 2 vs 4 rather than 1 vs 4 and 2 vs 6.

Spot on. ISO is down, but that kind of parallels HR%. Essentially he's hitting more ground balls than in the past, he's getting the ball off of the bat as soundly as he has in the past.
