I thought they left too much time on the clock, but being down they had to take the shot when they could. You can count that number of times that has happened prior on your thumb. But kudos to them, they came through. Ivey has looked like a man possessed at times this season. His block on Capela earlier in the game being one prime moment. Its still early, but I'm really happy to see his "rebirth" this season.

So given the Tampa circumstances, why not allow the Rays to do the same under much less intentional consequences? Sure, they’ll need to scale up some of the facilities to make a minor league more of a major league field. But what are the other options?

My reservations are more about contract length than annual contract value. There should be ample room to add annual cost for a few years. But it needs to be done wisely. Baez is a case in point. I didn't want to go past 4 years on him, preferably with the 4th as an earned season, but willing to go 4 guaranteed with a 5th based on performance. In fairness, I'm not sure anyone saw him breaking down this severely. But here we are, heading into year 4 of 6 guaranteed years. Its not a contract that cannot be dumped, but it just strips away opportunity elsewhere.

In his defense, he hasn't had much to work with during his career. But, yes, it seems like there's a better supporting cast, what should be better shooting, around him now.

I like the pitching mentions. A couple of non Tiger mentions: 43. Ha-Seong Kim: One year, $12MM. I'd be all in on this contract. I'd consider another season or higher dollar amount to get it done, even though he might miss a bit of the early season. 30. Danny Jansen: Two years, $20MM. The Tigers have been fairly fortunate with catcher health recently. This pushes Dingler back to Toledo. but only until one of Jansen/Rogers gets hurt.

Don’t know. I heard a theory that Boras might be more diff to deal with this offseason as he might be trying to make up for last offseason. I don’t know if that makes sense or not. Regardless, I wouldn’t think he has an extension for Skubal high up on his priority list this winter. Hopefully there’s a heck of a bond between Skubal and Hinch/Fetter/Nieves/Lund that Skubal wants to extend and he tells Boras he’s ready to sign it, but that’s probably just too optimistic.

My wife and I went up to Greenfield Village years ago. There was an old time baseball tournament going on. Harwell happened to be there to “broadcast” a game for those in attendance. He didn’t really do play by play in as much as he and the analyst had a conversation about the goings on and the rules of the game as it was going on. Things like the batter choosing for the pitcher whether he wanted the ball higher or lower (the umpire would declare “striker, state your preference), fly balls caught on one bounce was still an out, the home team turned their backs to the local train as it went by as they were not in favor of such mechanical beasts, etc. It was really cool.

I just hope they hit their stride in time for the mid season NBA Cup.
