  1. I want E-Rod to stay and have us pick up a solid depth/back end guy like how we viewed Lorenzen this past offseason so my ideal rotation next year would look something like 1. Skubal 2. E-Rod 3. Mize 4. Veteran FA 5. Manning The depth pieces and/or swing men would be Olsen, Brieske, Madden, Turnbull and Faedo.
  2. Yeah you got to feel for him, we'll never know the answer but I wonder how he would've turned out if he never got injured and didnt get saddled with the terrible coaching/culture his rookie season.
  3. Yeah I always thought he was too and this backs it up, I think it may have been because the way he was acquired and the little fan fair that came with it and most importantly he was viewed as kinda the third guy behind Miggy and Victor who for the most part were still elite hitters during JD's time up until the last season.
  4. We could prob find a stop gap for next year but Erod is still young enough that he should still be effective for atleast the next 3 years and since we don't have a ton of promising arms on the farm having that steady effective veteran in the rotation is something we're gonna need in the coming years so instead of going out and paying 15-20 million every year on guy(s) you hope can fill that role we could just have him for then 4 years at that same rate and not worry about it. Also even with that extension his contract wouldn't be totally out of line so we should have no problem trading him if we ever feel the need to..... assuming he wouldn't block it again.
  5. Honestly I wouldn't be totally against adding 1/20 if I knew that would get him to opt in. He's likely not going to be as good as he was at the start of the year but he should still be a solid mid rotation guy with potential to be better for the next few years and were likely going to be in the market for somebody like that anyway.
  6. The white Sox also threw a monkey wrench into things by saying that Cease was available only to pull him away shortly before the deadline. I could see a team targeting him and JV first and only going to Erod as a last ditch option.
  7. Back when the Tigers were good the money I made off Opening Day tickets basically covered the cost of my weekend package.
  8. Unless he dominates the rest of the way like he did at the start of the year I don't see how he has raised his stock much more than what we signed him for all things considered. He was so so last year, disappeared for 2 and a half months. This year he started great but then got injured and now seems to be regressing a bit. If that keeps up how much money will a team realistically give to him factoring that all in along with being 2 years older than he was when we signed him and the whole deadline stunt? I dont see many teams that will be willing to committ more than the 3 years that we are guaranteeing him.
  9. On the surface he would be but ERod seems like a different type of dude, he may be the type where money isn't everything and he doesn't want to through the dog and pony show of free agency or start all over again with a new team and city especially since theres no guarantee that he is going to get a significant more amount of money. He may like it here and feel comfortable here and feel like he is fairly compensated so he is just content staying. With that said my gut tells me though that the Tigers will work out some deal with him where they either add years to his current deal or give him a raise before FA starts.
  10. It makes me wonder if Baltimore may have been an option but they pivoted to Flaherty cause of the issues with Erod and the Dodgers. They may have worried that if he turned down a team like the Dodgers at the last moment he could potentially do the same to them and then they'd be left empty handed.
  11. He's just too inconsistent to think he will ever be more than a back end starter that has the occasional great game or short stretch mixed in.
  12. Fangraphs has him at 11 and a 40FV according to Eric Longenhagen.
  13. In a sport like baseball and especially at a position like pitcher I'm not as concerned with them "only caring about themselves" as I would be in other sports/positions. It's not like say in basketball where if a player is like that he may hog the ball or just disrupt the overall flow of the offense or defense. In baseball even if the pitcher truly is like that him only being out for himself doesn't effect the other guys around him on the field. He just goes out there and tries to get the opposing batter out and then go back to the dugout, him not caring about the players around him doesn't really alter anything or the overall objective of the rest of the team. And this is assuming he is really like that, it's hard to not be upset with how he handled things last year but this year it seems like he is a different player and the coaches and teammates all seem to like and get along with him.
  14. Yep, there's no doubt I'm disappointed in not trading E-Rod but without knowing what was offered it's hard to rake Harris over the coals for not trading him. Even if you don't get a draft pick at the end of the year you still don't want to just accept anything for him as there is some value having him the next two months. For starters It gives you two months of exclusive negotiating time if you do want to extend him, also you never know with ERod just cause it seems like he may opt out it's not a guarantee so you may get to keep him at a reasonable rate for the next few years.
  15. The no trade teams are often times strategically picked by the players/agents and not necessarily teams they legit don't want to trade for. They usually pick certain teams that in the event they do get traded there they can use that no trade to leverage something extra out of the team trading for them. Like maybe extra years on their contract or giving them a bigger deal etc. to not veto the trade but in this scenario it was one of the rare times that the team was a legit team or place that the player refused to play for.
  16. The stars are aligning for us, it would only be fitting that a station like Nickelodeon broadcasts their first Super Bowl the year the biggest joke and laughing stock in the league makes their first Super Bowl too!
  17. Imagine how JD felt, one of the best hitters on the planet for 3 and half years at that point and all he was able to fetch was Dawel Lugo and Jose King? Of course in his head he could atleast you the idiot GM that traded him as the excuse.
  18. With the way Lange has been pitching and just his overall inconsistencies Id be more than happy/surprised if we could even get a Christian Hernandez type even with him losing some of his luster.
  19. Yep also they are scouting his stuff and what he flashed the other day was Ace like according to the statcast numbers and some of the reports I read. On top of that he showed improved control by not walking anybody and throwing few balls. Judging by the HRs he prob still has command issues and left balls in the middle of the zone but hes only 20 and making his way back from a long absence so that shouldn't come as a surprise
  20. To me it's not about what anybody remembers it's my personal joy I get as a fan. In the extreme scenario I mentioned before I may get 10 years of heartbreak after they come up short but I would shake that off shortly after, the remaining part of those 10 years would me enjoying watching a winning team, getting excited for every game, experiencing big game atmospheres etc. Where as with the other scenario sure I would bask in the glory of that championship and there is no doubt I wouldn't forget it but then the other 9 years would be relatively miserable as a fan.
  21. Nobody can build a team to win a World Series cause there is no blueprint for that all you can do is build a team to give you a chance at one and the Rays have done an excellent job of doing that. I get that it's all a matter of preference but as a fan all I want is for my team to be in the hunt year in and year out, sure I want a championship but I'd rather have 10 years of the playoffs with no championships than 1 championship and 8 or 9 non competitive seasons.
  22. ⚾️ Immaculate Grid 118 9/9: Rarity: 173 IMMACULATE! 🟩🟩🟩 🟩🟩🟩 🟩🟩🟩 Play at: https://immaculategrid.com @immaculategrid x @baseball_ref The White Sox and Orioles Cy Young answer killed me, could only think of the two most popular answers.
  23. Haase definitely deserves to be sent down but I guess since its a lost season now might as well keep him up IF the young pitchers are comfortable with him and/or he "calls a good game" to help them out. We better look for alternatives in the offseason though cause he is just killing us, -1.3 WAR in only 77 games played thus far.
  24. Not necessarily his fault that the runner got thrown out but of course Haase hits it right in the spot where it's not deep enough to score but not shallow enough to hold so the worst case outcome happens. Nothing but bad things happen when he comes to the plate.
