I just hope it's cause they had Clark higher on their board and not because of some bullcrap signability thing where they try to manipulate money so they can get the 40th ranked player on their board with their 2nd pick instead of 45th.
-
Unbelievable.

I will never understand why teams are so worried about potentially getting guys with picks at 37 and 45 when history has shown that just a tiny fraction of them amount to anything anyway. To me it's a no brainer, you do what it takes to sign the number 1 prospect in the draft, if it means that you in turn have to take a lesser prospect with 37 and 45 who gives a crap. Basically I'd rather take the lesser player in rounds 2 and 3 than the lesser one in round 1, especially when the consensus shows that there is a clear tier difference between said prospects.

I have read more than one report that says that Clark and Jenkins may have the highest upside of any players in the draft and I believe it was Law who said if he had to pick one player from the class to win multiple MVPs it would be Clark so in the end those two very well may end up being the best of the bunch but with that said I still would much prefer having the closer and more sure thing in Crews/Langford even if the upside isn't as high. If we were in the Rangers shoes who are picking 4th where we already have a stacked roster and should be competitive for the foreseeable future I may be more open to taking a chance on the younger potentially higher upside pick but we're certainly not in that position.
-
I'm at the point where I'm going to be deeply disappointed if we don't end up with Crews or Langford.

Law has a write up of the game on The Athletic. For the most part it's him bitching about the game being 7 innings and on Peacock, didn't have a whole lot to say about many bats but Colt did get one of the few positive mentions, with this quote "Still, the hitters didn’t look great. A few who stood out even a little bit: Detroit’s Colt Keith got jammed on a slider in on his hands but is so strong he blooped it to short right-center for a hit."

Didn't see the game but went to ESPN's website and one of the headlines said "Tigers Manning, Foley and Lange combine for no hitter." I swear before I got to the no hitter part my brain immediately was expecting it to say something like "leave with injuries" or something so when I read the no hitter part I was more than pleasantly surprised. -

Speaking of Smyly I see that after all these years he is still pitching solidly for the Cubs, currently sporting a 108 ERA+. Id have to imagine he's got to be one of the handful or so best draft picks of ours in the last 25 years. -
Yeah I prefer Langford just cause I think his bat is a little better(Crews defense is better though) but I'll gladly take either. But let's be real we all know how this is gonna turn out, the guy we don't get will turn into Mike Trout and the guy we draft will be a bust.

This goes back to what I said about the Beal trade, yeah Beal had a NTC but in reality all these star players have a NTC whether its written or not cause they can control where they want to go knowing that its highly unlikely a team will trade for them if they know they don't want to go there.
-
Maybe not as good of numbers as that but I expect/hope Ivey dominates like that cause there really shouldn't be any reason he doesn't unless he didn't take a step forward in the offseason.

Also we're not privy to what he may or may not be working on or struggling with. Just throwing this out as an example, what if he specifically struggles with high fastballs right now and the Tigers want to have him show them that he can atleast hit AAA ones before exposing him to major league ones. Again not saying that is the case but just cause a guys overall numbers are good doesnt mean there isn't something in particular he struggles with that the team may want to see him improve at first before throwing him into the fire. -
If what the pundits are speculating is true then we need to hope Pitt doesn't take Langford 1 cause then Washington will take Crews at 2 since the rumors are they have Crews and Skenes 1-2 in that order.
-
Kiley McDaniel moved Langford to 1 on his big board followed closely by Crews and Skenes. He says as of now they will rank 9th,10th and 13th respectively on his overall prospect rankings which is extremely high for a player right out of the draft. Usually the top guy is usually around 25th-35th so ranking that high right off the bat shows how special these 3 are.

Yeah that is precisely the reason I heard from I believe Beck. I think the Tigers brass notably Hinch and the coaches wanted to see how he was doing in person.

Same here, yeah you can save money by going to arb a year later but that isn't that big of deal to me, what matters to me is how long you can control them for and in that case if they are good you are going to control them for the same amount of time cause 90% of the time those guys get long term extensions before becoming free agents. Basically if you don't give the guy an extension until say his 5th year you save what maybe 10 million over the course of 4+years? Not insignificant but not enough for me to think too much about and if you sign him to a long term extension in say his 2nd or 3rd year like most teams have been doing you save virtually nothing by manipulating the time. -
Damn shouldve verified the number before posting that, I didn't realize just how horrible he was post ASB last year. I guess even pre break he wasn't as good as I thought he was but boy that 2nd half was brutal, no wonder he was waived.

I think as Tigers fans weve had so few prospects over the years to get excited about we don't know how to handle it when we actually get one, like we just feel they automatically should be in the big leagues but that just isn't how most teams do it. They don't just throw them to the fire cause they put up a few months of great play in the minors, particularly when you still have questions about their defense. You think as fans we wouldve learned our lesson with Maybin, Castellanos, Tork and to some extent Greene's struggles when getting called up too soon but it seems most haven't. -
Magic waived Bol Bol, I have an irrational love for him so of course I want the Pistons to sign him. Aside from my love I think he could give us a big that can stretch the floor and help with our rom protection.

Perhaps Lorenzen was worthy of the All Star team just by surviving the Tigers curse on pitchers. Yeah he was injured in Spring training and missed his opening start but since then he has been healthy. So being able to pitch a half season with us and throw the amount of pitches he has and not get injured may be more impressive than any stats that the other All Stars put up. -

I didn't really think about it until now but I wonder if there is a chance we see Mize back sometime this year? He had surgery in mid June of last year so it wouldn't be a reach for him to be back sometime in August or September. I of course wouldn't want him to rush back but if he gets the all clear I would like to see him get a handful of starts or so just so he can possibly work out some of the issues that come with returning from TJ surgery instead of having to deal with them next year. -

I'd say him or Rogers. Rogers quietly is 3rd in among catchers in WAR in the AL so he had a strong argument to be the 3rd catcher on the roster but unfortunately for him the Royals didn't have any obvious reps so Perez was chosen for them which pretty much killed Jake's chances cause they weren't going to select 4 catchers. -
Jobe worked 1 inning of scoreless ball(2hits though) for Lakeland tonight. I saw there was a delay in the 2nd earlier so I'm assuming that was why he only pitched 1 inning but not for sure. Atleast that is what I'm hoping and not because of an injury or something.

Speaking of Chet saw a couple pics of him recently and apparently he put on like 20-25lbs, still looks skinny but not near anorexic like he did before. He probably could afford to add on 20-25 more assuming it doesn't effect his quickness or athleticism too much.
