I’m not sure how you fire Juwan right now and allow Warde Manuel to pick the next head coach. He’s going to screw it up and the school will be locked into an expensive 5 year contract for someone just as bad.
It’s not Alex Lyon’s fault.
It’s Priority Trash’s fault.
For the love of god, just give them their money back and take the trash patch off the sweater. This is the hockey gods punishment for Chris defacing one of the most iconic jerseys in sports.
Digging deeper, there are some intricacies to his contract that I’m not sure about. He’s got a $7M restructure bonus that is part of the contract and I don’t know if that would go with him in a trade or if the Chargers are on the hook for it. That may not even be an issue as he’s got another $7M roster bonus due on Friday. Ideally neither the Chargers or the Lions would want to pay that. It’s possible that he could end up just getting cut this week.
I’d like the Lions to see if they can take a one season flyer on Joey Bosa. He’s due $17M and has a $7M bonus that I’m sure the Chargers would prefer to eat instead of the salary. I can’t imagine it would take more than a 6th as he’s probably getting cut post June 1st. He can be a beast if healthy and the risk is minor if he gets hurt early.
Good for him. We paid him $6.5 and he ended up doing very little. Getting 3 years $33M after that season is great work from his agent. Danielle Hunter should ask for his number in 2 years.
An expectations for Day 2 of FA or is Brad done with the major moves?
Still some nice pieces out there including Hunter, Fuller, Gilmore, Young, and others.
The PFF grading model where each play is graded -2 to 2 and then totaled up for a game score is a far from perfect system to grade corners. It’s very possible to get burned deep for the game losing TD and still get a high game grade. You can do the opposite and get a game winning pick 6 and end up with a low grade.
The cap is very real when you carelessly throw money around a few years in a row. Entering today, the Dolphins had 6 players making over $20M against the cap. The Lions had 1.
So are you against making trades for anyone other than a QB?
I also don’t think parting with one of the 3rds is a big deal as far as draft capital. The late 2nd is something but it’s still not as valuable as a 1st. If we keep seeing these massive increases in the cap every year, it will end up mattering less and less, to the point it will become a virtual non-factor for many teams.
We will see what the market is for Sneed. I don’t envision him costing a first. Our late second would be ok by me for him. If they could flip one of the 3rd’s, then draft compensation is no big deal in a trade. That is probably wishful thinking if he does end up with a market.
Having to pay for past performances that you didn’t bear any fruit is the downside of every big free agent signing.
The Lions are entering a win now stage where a risk on a big free agent at the expense of draft capital may not be a bad idea. They don’t have nearly as many holes as they did a few years ago. Brad has also shown an uncanny ability to find diamonds outside the first two rounds. Don’t get me wrong, draft picks are important but they are in a spot where they could roll the dice at giving up a few picks.
