  1. Pennant race still means the battle for the playoffs
  2. ERod has shown in his 2 years here that he only cares about what’s best for him. The team is secondary. That won’t change if the Tigers sign him to a long term deal. I’m not sure why thats a good idea for a young team trying to build a solid winning foundation for the future. As Mike Singletary said “Can’t win with those guys”
  3. It’s about wanting to compete and win. That should mean something as an athlete. If it doesn’t then he’s just cashing paychecks. I’m not understanding the first part about honor in a pennant. The most important 1/3 of the season still remains and any marquee player traded today will have a big impact on if their new team makes the playoffs. It’s not like someone’s just getting added to the roster at the end of the season, the pennant race is just getting started.
  4. But we don’t know it either of these things are true. Nobody outside still knows the reason for last year and we don’t know if the reason for turning down this trade was for his love of the Tigers and wanting to stay here. What we do know is that he went awol for an extended period of time last year, and he chose not to compete in the pennant race this year.
  5. How can they possibly commit longterm to him? He went AWOL last year and neglected to communicate with the team. Still, they stood by him and even paid him without challenge. This year, he refuses a trade to play for a contender in a playoff race. How can any competitive athlete just straight out reject the opportunity to play meaningful games in a playoff race? Mind boggling. This guy is a piece of work and is not someone that you build a culture of winning around. They are best to just take the draft pick and let this headcase be someone else’s problem in the future.
  6. Hoping now for a Dylan Cease trade to the NL. That should account for 2 extra Tigers wins next year.
  7. It’s become such a racket. I agree with everything you said and I’m also in the same boat. $1200 a month and still paying bills at the doctors
  8. Even more they had the chance to swallow the B12 in 2011 and didn’t do it for non-football reasons.
  9. It’s a JV with Fox Sports.
  10. This is certainly true but it’s not why the PAC-12 is in this position. It is 100% related to the absolutely train wreck leadership of former commissioner Larry Scott. He was brought over from the Women’s Tennis tour to run the conference and proceeded to destroy it instead. All the while he lined his pockets and pretended to be a media and contract expert. The decision to keep the Pac-12 network internal and it bring on a partner was monumentally bad. They took on all of the expenses and overhead to get it off the ground and ended up costing the conference hundreds of millions versus taking on a media partner like all the conferences did for their networks. He conned the University presidents for a decade before the pitiful results were so oblivious that he had to go. The new guy has been on board for a year and was brought into an untenable situation and couldn’t save it.
  11. Im not sure what the options are for the remainders. Oregon, Washington, Stanford, and Cal are all stuck without much leverage. Maybe the B10 reconsiders but that seems more like wishful thinking. Wazzu and Oregon State are really screwed as the only option outside the existing PAC would be to step down to full G5 level in the Mountain West.
  12. Somewhere Bill Walton is crying on his tie-dye. Have to assume that ASU and Utah won’t be far behind.
  13. Stanford is a blip on the radar of the Bay Area sports scene. They have an aging fanbase that is almost entirely alumni. They don’t really attract much from the regular sports fan in the Bay. USC probably has close to the same appeal locally. The stadium is at least half full of Trojans whenever they play up there. It’s one thing for Oregon State and Wazzu to draw 30k fans in their small rural locations but to do that in a major metro area like Stanford has done is telling at how little impact they have.
  14. Haase needs to find a new profession
  15. This is on Harris at this point. Needs to DFA Haase or else AJ will keep using him in the absolute worst spots
  16. Olson and Brieske both have major league stuff but you need be consistently on the corners to be an effective major league pitcher. Leave enough pitches over the center of the plate and it’s only a matter of time until you get shelled.
  17. Only a stubborn idiot gets suspended 4 games for lying about a minor infraction that would’ve had practically no punishment had he just admitted that he did it.
  18. Hateful Eight was fantastic. Add this to your queue.
  19. This He’s fantastic.
  20. It looks like it’s going to be very close.
  21. Never good to be comped to Greg Gohr
  22. There are probably 10 different jobs in this organization ranging from Asst GM, Hitting Coach, VP Player Development or Color Commentator that Curtis could do very well right now.
  23. Seems like Brad leaned from Benson and moved back rather than trading the late round pick. Hopefully Mims is something but the league is littered with fast guys that couldn’t run routes and get open.
  24. One could argue the entire Jets organization has questionable compete after their decision to start Zach Wilson the last 2 years.
  25. Big props for the Mariners for sporting 3 different uniforms this weekend.
