  1. Clemson OC Tony Elliott has taken that job. It will be interesting to see if Duke reaches out to Gattis and if that would interest him.
  2. I’m not sure I buy this at all in the NFL. Unlike the rest of the pro sports, these contracts aren’t guaranteed. 80% of the players in the league are essentially playing for their jobs on a year by year basis. If there is any motivation its that coaches hold the key to playing time and opportunity which in turn leads to whether they keep their jobs or not. The large majority of the league are not stars and I think it is more self-preservation than respect or admiration that gets the best out of them. They go the extra mile to put out good tape to stay on the roster or for other teams if and when they get cut or inured. Honestly, This is a difficult subject for this board since there are so many strong personalities that insist on being right and this debate has no way of being ever being proven correct in either way.
  3. I am of the opinion that being liked by players is one of the least important things for an NFL head coach. I don’t think teams win because players like their head coach. Some of the best coaches in the league are assholes that players put up with because they help them win. Patricia was a fraud and a terrible coach but he lost the team because they couldn’t win due to his incompetence with player acquisition and stupid scheme. If they had a better record all those same complainers would’ve happily gotten on board with him. Great, I just reminded myself how colossally bad it was giving away Quandre Diggs for a 7th rounder. Idiots.
  4. I’m going to go out on a limb and guess you aren’t a Lewis fan.
  5. Part of me will be shocked if they win but this team is due for something to go their way at the end of a game.
  6. We are witnessing two massive shifts happening to college football in real time. The first is that is now becoming acceptable for coaches to leave their team before the season is over to take another job. This is a unwanted by product of the new early signing period in mid December. In the past, hiring schools and the head coach were content to wait until seasons end in early January. Not the case anymore as these schools are insisting on taking as much advantage of the December window as possible. In the end this is bad for the game as coaches don’t finish what they start and have truly become hired guns for the money. Second is the complete change in how schools recruit QB’s and in turn manage a QB depth chart. The portal along with instant eligibility means that every single year there will be highly rated, experienced QB’s that schools can acquire almost like NFL free agency. It doesn’t mean as much when your school signs a 4 or 5 star QB since they either play early or leave. If they leave, it’s not that big of a deal since you can find one from somewhere else looking for a change. The challenge is picking the right one. The Pac-12 championship last night is a great example. Oregon’s season fell apart because they picked the wrong QB. Anthony Brown was very successful at BC for 2 years and was thought to be a perfect fit in the Ducks offense. He was terrible and had big problems with accuracy all season. Utah picked up Cam Rising from Texas where he wasn’t good enough to play and it turns out he led Utah to the Rose Bowl. Oregon with Rising is probably a playoff team. Why was Oregon in the hunt for a QB in the first place? Last year’s QB Tyler Shough had an up and down season and chose to surprise transfer in the off-season to Texas Tech. It’s like rolling a die and hoping through luck your number hits with the most important part of your football team.
  7. Gerry Faust jokes never get old (even if we do).
  8. It’s Notre Dame. He would’ve entertained it. I think Campbell was even better for them and he supposedly wanted it.
  9. I love Dan Campbell, the man I’d like Dan Campbell, TE Coach I’m meh on Dan Campbell, OC I don’t like Dan Campbell, Head Coach
  10. I hate this move. Fickell, Campbell, and even Kiffin are all out there. They should’ve at least delayed the decision until Sunday to see if they are in the playoff. Rumors are that Duke had interest in Freeman as their HC and maybe that forced their hand to make the call now. They better get into the 4 since its not going to look good if ND aren’t in the playoff and end up with a 35 year old first time head coach while passing up on the top available candidates.
  11. We will find out that’s for sure. My gut says Thibs will have better overall numbers but Hutch will beat expectations more. I think Hutch is the better player at the moment but it’s too early to tell if he’s the better prospect. If Thibs was smart, he’d put his ego aside and do everything in his power to let Hutch be the first pick to the Lions.
  12. Interesting, I would’ve struck you for the “This never would’ve happened if he just obeyed the police “ crowd.
  13. We could end the gun problem tomorrow if we could just figure out a way for gun control to be a vehicle for the GOP to gain control and make money to line their pockets. That’s all they care about now. The Republicans would flip their position in a second if it would help them win. They could easily convince their supporters since most have been brainwashed to the point of zombie status already.
  14. Yep. The goal isn’t to draft the guy that is the best college player at 21 years old. It’s finding the ones that are going to be the best for the years to come. It’s also about identifying the late bloomers and the ones whose game is better suited for the NFL than college.
  15. This is a flawed argument that is most often used by stupid people It should be very clear to anyone what the difference is between a gun and a car, knife, airplane, or whatever else you want to try to use in your stupid rationalization. A gun is a weapon. It is used to inflict bodily harm or physical damage. That Is what it was intended for and is its only use. Everything that you mentioned has a different primary use and multiple secondary uses of which doing harm or physical damage happens to be one.
  16. Your eye has seen much more of Hutch than Thibodeaux. It’s naturally going to be biased. Hutch has closed the gap based on his game tape but college game performance isn’t the sole determining factor in evaluating NFL prospects. A better picture will emerge after pro days and the combine.
  17. This has been going on for decades and for the entire time it was thought the NRA was the driving force against gun control. Now that their lobbying money has dried up it’s become obvious that it was the GOP pulling the strings all along.
  18. The GOP has chosen the stance that the right to bear arms outweighs the right for people not to get shot.
  19. Good for him. He should be in a giving mood. Harbaugh is a big, big winner in this coaching carousel. He bet on himself last year and his number hit. He’s going to triple his earnings in a year. Steve Ross may have to sell a property in Manhattan to pay for the extension.
  20. USC should get back to some level of success. They have an easy division in an easy conference. Riley will be able to recruit without much competition in one of the best areas of the country. As schools start to figure out how to use NIL as advantage, the opportunities possible in Los Angeles will become some of the best around. Florida plays in the toughest conference in the country and has to battle with LSU, FSU, UGA, Miami, and Bama for every recruit. I think this is a much much harder job.
  21. Riley leaving OU after not making the B12 Championship Game is one thing. Kelly is literally an Oklahoma St and Bama loss away from the playoff. Hell, it could even take just a Houston upset over Cincy How can the head coach essentially give up on a possible championship season with a week to go? This goes against everything he coaches his players about commitment and sacrifice for their team goals. I am never one to jump on these coaches for job hopping and following the money but this is a scummy move to do right now. No other way around it.
  22. It’s sucks that Chris hasn’t figured out a way to get the City and State to pay for the Tigers payroll like he has with his other business interests.
  23. I’m the same. I like KT a little better at the moment but Hutch is closing the gap. His emergence is a great thing for the Lions. Here’s another player at a position of great need that will be very much in play for the top pick. It’s not just KT and everyone else anymore.
