I’m not even concerned with winning—someone has to cover his innings. Probably a moot point—I suspect we’ll get possibly all 4 of the guys I listed back. Of course, with our luck, Lorenzen will go down with an injury in July. I do hope we’re in a position to be active at the deadline with tradable assets that are coveted by other teams—interested in seeing how Harris and Co. approach it.

If we don’t get at least two of Skubal, Manning, Turnbull and ERod back, we might not have the luxury of trading Lorenzen. No depth at Toledo, as we’ve already stretched that.

This report feels like everyone is coming back soon. I thought I read that Pacheco just had TJ surgery?

As a reminder, Turnbull isn’t eligible for free agency until after 2024. Tigers wont release him and he needs to pitch to establish value. He’ll be back. If he’s truly injured, I’m actually relieved. I thought he was playing games to avoid being demoted and it might explain his pitching performance this season.

McKinstry being McKinstry

Some good stuff here. I’m not confident in writing McKinstrey into any long term, significant role, though he’s a good guy to plug in. I think we’ll have plenty of payroll and the willingness to spend, but a weak free agent class will drive up contracts and competition. Probably not a fix. I like the idea of taking on salary in trade. The Padres have a plethora of big contracts with guys who are still young and could be productive for us.

Meadows Greene Vierling Carpenter Baddoo All injured, many at the same time. How in the hell did we have the May that we did? I know it’s easy to pile on the team, but few could withstand losing their entire OF for extended periods. Unfortunately, though, the infield is still intact (and underperforming).

Probably unreasonable expectations for Tork, who was hyped for a long time before he was drafted 1-1. He still shows flashes of promise, and given where we are, he’ll get a long leash. Not blocking anyone and we won’t be drafting his replacement, at least not in the first round. You run with him and Greene, and try to solve almost every other spot.

Lighten up Francis. I posed a hypothetical, and it’s not that outlandish. We have a dearth of 1B in the org, including the majors, three guys who project to be bat-first with no set position (Jung, Malloy, Keith) in an organization that likes to play guys completely outside of their natural position. If it’s so painful for you, please block me. We’ll both be happier.

Wonder if the Tigers give some consideration to moving Jung and/or Keith to 1B? They are both roughly the same size as Torkelson, and Spencer is no sure thing. The knock against both guys has been their defense. Could they make the transition to 1B?

3 of our starting pitchers on the DL for significant periods, along with the entire outfield that broke spring training. Can’t make this stuff up.
