    I agree. Too many hurt feelings here. He’s easily a top 40 starting pitcher in the majors. On our team, only Skubal is close in talent (maybe Jobe at some point). In free agency, we’d easily and gladly extend a 4 yr/$80M contract to someone similar to replace him. This is all moot, though, as I think ERod will opt out.

    What do we call it when the Tigers and each of their four full season farm teams all win on the same day? Immaculate Saturday?

    It certainly appears that way with the hitters. However, the pitchers have seemed to regress some.

    I think (and hope) McKinstry will be a guy we look back at fondly in a few seasons and say, “remember that dude with the mullet who played everywhere and was solid?” And a few of us will be able to recall this.

    I’d be pretty pissed if he did that. The Tigers did the honorable thing by keeping him on the active roster all season and letting him retire with respect and on his terms. He should retire as a Tiger. Im glad to see him hitting well, and he seems to be enjoying himself, but he can’t feel great about hitting one HR on the season. His skills would be even more diminished next year.

    If he can play adequate defense there, you could see how the pieces potentially fall in place for next season: Vierling 3B Malloy RF Greene LF Meadows CF Keith 2B I think we know the other positions. Of course, this assumes no external additions, which is unlikely.

    Looks that way. My naïveté was hoping that a Parker Meadows promotion could be a positive catalyst for Austin in helping him get back, but Hinch’s comments do not sound promising at all. I suspect he’ll be offered a role in the organization after this season—the Tigers won’t want to cut a player dealing with his issues.

    Personally, I refuse to continue wearing my Old English D ass-less chap’s until I see a marked improvement in play.

    Nobody like hearing the sound of his voice more than him. I don’t know what his baseball credentials are (I’ve never heard of him), but he doesn’t appear to be very likable.

    I think the bigger issue is having to be ROY. Not sure the odds of that are worth deferring a promotion.

    Speaking of Jobe, since he forever will be linked with Mayer (at least with Tigers fans), he’s hitting .189 with a .609 OPS in 190 AB’s at AA. Very young for the league, but also a reminder that baseball is hard.

    No way Harris trades him. I think Malloy will have a similar profile to Isaac.

    Rosie has a voice for print. I’ve met him a handful of times—very nice and funny guy. He pitched to a bunch of us at a camp at Comerica.

    I suspect he feels some sense of loyalty to the Tigers based on how they accommodated him last season. I’ve never heard of a player taking an extended leave to resolve a family issue. And that would never happen in any other job. If he were a free agent and we could sign him for 4 years/$69M, we’d all be ecstatic. Doesn’t seem to be a clubhouse problem and is still an elite pitcher.

    Very hard to say without knowing who would be coming back. I like Rogers, too, but he represents one of a couple of positions that could be upgraded.
