  1. 1976–Year of the Bird. Hooked ever since. Was a HS senior in ‘84. Probably went to 30-40 games that season. Most in the bleachers, including the first game after they reopened them. (They had closed them temporarily for bad fan behavior—when they reopened, they only sold NA (non-alcoholic) beer. Also, those 30-40 games were often accompanied by the obligatory Windsor visit. My buddies and I were all ballet fans.
  2. Let’s hope for good Flaherty for many reasons.
  3. Anything to avoid facing our lineup
  4. Didn’t realize how many field goals he missed with the Panthers. Obviously has a big leg, but hope he can improve his accuracy.
  5. It’s a good thing he’s young.
  6. Which hands holds the beer?
  7. I really don’t care who we draft—have not been engaged in this group. Initial successful results with Clark and McGonigle have me optimistic that they know what they are doing.
  8. Thanks for sharing. I suspect average game attendance increases significantly during the summer months with school out. Marketing in baseball is atrocious—the Tigers are really bad. They don’t grasp what they need to do to expand. Running commercials on Bally of an old couple wearing face paint to games is the last thing they should be doing if you’re trying to make the game more relevant and appealing to a younger, more diverse audience. (full disclosure—I tried valiantly to get an interview for their VP of Marketing opening they had open last year. They were only considering candidates with relevant experience, which is the absolute worst approach they could have taken).
  9. I don’t see where Keith was rushed. He was a dominant player at AAA. How much more development would he have benefited from? If there is anything to question, it’s should he be sent down to Toledo to work on anything?
  10. Mize looks good. Turning it around or just facing a ****ty team?
  11. 31 players were drafted before the Yankees selected him, including Jonathan Crawford by the Tigers.
  12. Ok, Wally Pipp—here’s your chance.
  13. Maybe you’re the problem?
  14. Rolls off the tongue, don’t it?
  15. I don’t see Canha or Ushela commanding much, if at all, but Kelly and Flaherty would be upgrades for some teams. Would be nice to re-engage with the Dodgers.
  16. The MLB Network guys are fans
  17. Wasn’t this an episode of the Sopranos?
  18. He’s definitely better than Shep, but not as good as Mario. Feels like he’s trying too hard to maintain the adulation of the Tigers Twitter mob.
  19. We let Candy and Castro walk.
  20. McGonigle is a man amongst boys—3 for 4 with a BB tonight. .355 batting average.
  21. We all know Jung will fail. All of our position prospects do. I’m OK flipping him for someone younger with a better contract—we can always add to him for the right player.
  22. Why burn one of your better pitchers against our lineup?
  23. Here’s an example of a trade Harris could pursue. Not saying he should, but this is feasible. Tigers trade Jace Jung, Ty Madden Cardinals trade Nolan Arenado, $25M Jung is a top 75 prospect who has put together two very good consecutive seasons. Madden has struggled at AAA, but still a good prospect, even if he ends up a reliever. Arenado is 33, and having an atypical season for him. Signed for another 5 seasons ($144M) and rumors are that the Cards might become sellers soon. Arenado becomes our best position player and a much needed veteran presence. Keith and Jung are a bit redundant, making him available. Feel free to poke holes, but this is the type of trade that Dombrowski would make—sending unproven prospects for a proven veteran.
  24. And all that consternation about Harris’ willingness to make a trade. Don’t you all feel silly now?
