dear nbc, you see the difference between the big ten and notre dame? that nd game was in prime time and didnt even get as many viewers as michigan state!
-
can johnson suddenly discover he's black like macdonald did? that way we could get a draft pick out of it.
-
i think it was belichick remembering who jared goff is, and the lions had no counter because all their playmakers were injured (and jared goff is a below average nfl qb). that said, did the pats expose the lions oline a bit? they looked bad in pass pro. matt judon took turns making sewell and decker look pedestrian.
-
i think they took a chance on a guy with great measurables who had a rap as having motivation issues. and it didnt pan out. even when he was supposedly healthy, he wasnt good. it happens. we know the lions' misses in the draft because were lions fans, but every team misses in the draft. holmes needs to hit on a qb soon, that will make or break his gm career in detroit.
-
i agree. that said, its been 6 games. there is A LOT of season left to play. these situations can turn around in a hurry.
-
zadina could still be a "perron type". but youre right, that's what we thought he would be and he has not been that yet. on the whole, i thought zadina played well last night.

its too early to call barnes and melifonwu misses. its not trending well, but they still have time. especially melifonwu because of...wait for it...injuries.

i dont see why brad holmes is above criticism. he deserves it for whiffing on levi. he also deserves praise for doing things like picking up cominsky and finding a lot of dbs who played well last year. not his fault half the team gets hurt every year. hopefully paschal can be what levi was not. lets just all agree we should really trade out of the second round next year.

Week Seven: Detroit Lions (1-4) @ Dallas Cowboys (4-2)

getting cominsky back would be a real help. he was their best pass rusher and freed up hutch on a lot of those stunts. -

seriously. will swift, st brown, and chark actually play? -
tough break, but they got a point. the kings dominated them last year, so playing them even is a sign of progress.

its hard to measure that stuff in college football when you play very different schedules and there is such a difference in talent from team to team. iirc, penn state supposedly had a great run defense...until they ran into a good running team. michigan's defense will look good too until they run into an offense like a motivated ohio state in columbus. last year's michigan defense was good, but ohio state still moved the ball against them. and georgia eviscerated them. i think the same will be true this year. michigan's linebackers are still bad and they dont have hutch and ojabo on the outside. now, i think theyre better in the middle and better overall at db, but a good offense will kill their linebackers. otoh, i think michigan's offense is better than last year. jj gives them the ability to do so much more. that's your hope for ohio state: that one offseason is not enough for the buckeyes to adjust to michigan's power running game that's even harder to defend now that they have a qb who can move. they've got a shot, for sure. but i still think a motivated osu will beat them.
-
the concerns were about how motovated he is. very talented, but it didnt show up consistently on tape. took a lot of plays off. nothing about back concerns.
-
levi had back surgery. out for the season. i think we can write levi off. he will probably never play again for detroit. not that he ever played well anyway. c'est la vie.
-
amd valenti is just saying that so he can go on at the end of the season and say harbaugh underachieved and is a bad coach.
-
i think michigan will struggle against ohio state and any sec offense. their linebackers are bad and will get abused by sec speed from running backs. i think it would be similar to last year's against georgia, but probably a little closer. and i still think ohio state beats them this year.

auburn is rock bottom right now. how old is urban? he's not there for a four year rebuild.
-
texas too. oklahoma maybe.
-
cant win at auburn. he wont go there. if he was going to get back into coaching it would be at a place like u$c or the sec. places that have the foundation to win and will spend the money to win. auburn has a lucky season every now and again but cant compete on a regular basis. i could see him at lsu, georgia, or bama. i dont think he walks into a place like auburn that is a dumpster fire. he's got more money than he knows what to do with at this point. but you never know. he's arrogant enough to think he can do anything.

i dont have to do anything of the sort. they really began "rebuilding" at basically the same time. first of all, its week 6. plenty of time for the lions to get better and the jets to get worse. the jets arent world beaters. neither are the giants (who you arent talking about). the nfl is about injuries as much as anything and the lions have been hurt more than most. again. at the end of the day, if we take the long view, its almost better for the lions to be horrible this season and be in position for another top 3 pick because this year there are qbs worth that pick in the draft. but as a fan, i'm tired of always taking the long view to next year's draft. this was supposed to be the year we saw some improvement and we havent. its frustrating to see other perennial losers get better as we get worse. again.
-
never.
-
that will never happen.
-
the jets were 2-14 that year and the lions were 5-11. the jets kept adam gase the whole season and the lions fired patricia 3/4 of the way through. the result was the same, the only difference is the lions picked 7th and the jets picked 2nd. they both cleaned house and brought in new coaches at the same time. the jets didnt fire their gm but the lions did. and the giants brought in new coaches and immediately got better. the lions have not. i think some of that is because of injuries, but not all of it. holmes and campbell have to be held responsible for results at some point.

osu's schedule is tougher than michigan's. notre dame may be flailing but they have more talent than csu, hawaii and uconn combined. and toledo is better than all of those teams michigan played ooc. michigan deserves to miss the playoff for that ooc. part of me really hope it comes back to bite them in the ass. oh, the team they chickened out and dropped in order to schedule hawaii at night? ucla.
-
they began rebuilding when they tore it down and drafted wilson, iirc. i think they let douglas do that even though he had been the gm before that time. kind of like how they had quinn be there and be the gm and keep caldwell for a year before they began to tear it down. that's how i remember it but i could be wrong.
