  1. food prices have gone up quite a bit.
  2. dont worry, we'll tell the great unwashed what's good for them.
  3. counterpoint: most americans like the things that are in the bill. i dont think the heated rhetoric helps democrats, but thats just politics. voter id is not jim crow. most americans - including most black americans - are in favor of voter id.
  4. polling shows that no group of americans think voting access is an important issue. this includes black americans.
  5. espn proposal: grant to bulls pwill and derrick jones jr to detroit. given what levert went for, i would hope the pistons could wrangle that portland protected first from the bulls too. otoh, just get rid of grant, and pwill has a ton of upside and is potentially what this team needs: an athletic wing. ANY athletic wing! please!
  6. keith law tiger top 20: greene, tork, dingler, jobe, kriedler, pacheco, dylan smith, ty madden, cristian santana, roberto campos. colt keith, beau briske, gage workman, parker meadows, austin bergner, joey wentz, wilmer flores, eric de la rosa, eli alfonzo, manuel segura. no faedo. not nearly as high on wentz as some people here. jobe is lower because he's a high school arm and those have a high fail rate. hasnt pitched against pros yet, so he could move up really quickly if he lives up to his potential. lots of young internationals in the top 10 now. a good sign if they progress, or a sign that picking high hasnt netted all that much other than the first rounders. or both.
  7. just move it to a sunday like everyone else.
  8. my wife did it. she liked it. but its a long day. the real issue is that its run by state and local officials. america's issue with so many different units of authority spread out all over this vast country of ours, not every one has the same rules and abilities as others. so you get a hodge podge of different voting scenarios. i think the longest ive ever waited to vote was 15 minutes, but i go as soon as the polling place opens and its right across the street from me now. not everyone has that kind of luxury. when i was in college i took the local bus to the polling place, that's about as far as ive ever gone to vote.
  9. oh he'll get paid. from kamara and from the place where he got his ass kicked.
  10. yes. you might be surprised about kids today. theyre still mean little ass holes, but not a lot of racial stuff. i also live in la la liberal land so i imagine its different elsewhere. for example, once a month they have an "eye on equity" meeting with the principal and vice principal (both hispanic) where they talk to parents (all white parents) about race and racism. as you might imagine, i am often the lone dissenter (but only because my wife refuses to contribute). my wife is mexican, she gets more racist shit thrown at her by fellow mexicans (youre a coconut, anti-white and anti-american slurs) than anything in america. she had one incident once in arkansas, but that was it.
  11. then volunteer to be a poll worker.
  12. look at you white people judging who is biracial and who isnt. calm yourselves! i have two biracial daughters. one is dark skinned with brown hair and the other is white as a ghost with red hair. and yes, they are both mine. 😠 genes work in mysterious ways.
  13. you might be surprised who is biracial in america....like this guy:
  14. i know, right!
  15. data says otherwise...
  16. however he wants to do it is fine with me because he seems to have real talent.
  17. i always vote in person because i dont trust that it was actually received and counted unless i can see it go into the machine.
  18. i think when all is said and done, it wont effect voting at all, and may end up hurting republicans as much as democrats. but i dont know, we'll find out.
  19. albany park is more diverse than your community, white dude. you can even ride your bike to a polling place, its that easy.
  20. they have had some of the best special teams under jayharbs, so lets keep him there. good recruiter too.
  21. there isnt bipartisan support for the voting rights act, but i thought there was some bipartisan support for amending the electoral act? i could be wrong though, its been a while aince i heard anything about it.
  22. separate issue. that isnt a voting rights act issue and its not at issue in this case. that's an electoral act issue. they need to shore that up before the next election for the very reasons you said. if im not mistaken, there is bipartisan support for doing that.
  23. most of this voting rights act stuff is about symbolism. not all of it, but most of it. in general, its very easy to vote in this country. that said, the voting rights act was put in play for a reason and not all of those reasons are gone. the roberts court deals with discrimination cases by saying - as roberts did - the best way to end discrimination by race is to stop discriminating by race. and by the letter of the law, they are right on discrimination cases. things like affirmative action do discriminate by race. the other question is why and if it is still necessary to do so because of the long history of discrimination. and while those acts do say that the government cannot diacriminate on the basis of race, the purpose behind those acts was to deal with a specific type of discrimination foisted upon a certain group of people by the majority group in society. roberts' view doesnt take that into account enough, imo. but by the letter of the law, he is right. the other issue is whether it is still necessary in today's world. but that's another debate altogether.
