  1. That's essentially equal. If the Tigers offered two years at that price and the Yankees offered one year, I think he'd take the Tigers offer.
  2. I think it's more fun to play for a winning team, so all things being equal they would pick a winning team. However, I think in the vast majority of cases, money is the biggest factor for baseball players. If free agents tend to sign with winners, it's because winning teams have more money to spend either because they make bigger profits or because winning teams are more likely to take a risk on one player who could put them over the top.
  3. Avila reminded me of a 70s or 80s GM. He'd go into the off-season telling us what needed to be done and he'd get it done, just not very well. I kind of liked that about him in a sentimental way, but it is too simplistic for today's game.
  4. I got mine through TIAA. Right now, there is as 5 year CD at 5% at Capital One, McLean, VA. They have a 6 mo CD at 4.3% at Ally Bank, in Midvale, UT At the end of December, I'll be investing in another CD or treasury.
  5. I never liked that five-year plan thing that teams were selling to their fans. Teams should be working to make improvements through all aspects of team building all the time. It shouldn't be all or nothing. Teams will have down years from time to time, but some of the improvements needed to get back up again should already be in progress. There is no need to tear everything down and start at zero and then spend five years "re-building" while your team loses 100 games every year.
  6. I put a substantial percentage of savings into short-term treasuries and CDs a little while ago. They were all between 3.5 and 4%. After they expire, I will probably go long-term with some of it. The first batch expires at the end of December.
  7. I am also not done with the three you mention. I would like to see them replace Reyes and the Castros with different types players though.
  8. Oh crap, just what I want to see. Another challenge system.
  9. I don't follow those kinds of tweeters.
  10. I don't really understand why many people are so concerned about musk buying Twitter. We probably won't even notice a difference and if he does screw up the site, then people will just move onto to the next social media site.
  11. I would listen to your podcast. Just don't spend the first 10 minutes talking about yourself like I've heard on many podcasts. You need to get right to the subject matter of interest.
  12. Deuce didn't need gold chains.. He invested in real estate. he also didn't pay any taxes.
  13. Unless you're a pitcher!
  14. If you give them a $200 million contract, their financial future will be fine.
  15. I think others hitters have complained about the fences, but I haven't heard anyone say they wouldn't sign with Detroit because of the fences. The number one reason players wouldn't sign is always money. The number two reason is they are a terrible team.
  16. He had a problem with his back.
  17. Dude's so white he glows in the dark.
  18. I am expecting a lot of player movement this off-season, but not blockbuster trades or huge free agent signings. With all the disappointing seasons from hitters and all the injured pitchers, they have little to offer and they'll probably want to wait until the young pitchers are ready before they know exactly what direction to take in big free agent signings. I expect the roster will be a lot different next year, just not big names. I think we'll see them get rid of fringe guys like Reyes and the Castros who don't get on base, don't have any real power or give them plus defense and replace them with players with different skill sets. Maybe a low batting average guy who walks and has some power, or a defense first guy who can draw some walks. I think the one place where we might see a semi-big name is the starting rotation. They are going to need some innings and might sign a pitcher to a 2-3 year deal.
  19. Never say Ever.
  20. It won't be at Liston's house. He only throws a party if they are getting a player who makes the MLB roster. He don't want to wait around for five years to see if the guy the might get makes the majors
  21. I can definitely see Rodriguez being good enough next year where he opts out. That could be good or bad depending on what else happens with the team.
  22. Willi Castro. Can't draw a walk, can't find a position for him, finally goes to outfield but can't hit enough to be an outfielder.
  23. yeah, I am not a fan of Rodriguez. He is on my list of least favorite Tigers - right up there with Juan Gonzalez.
  24. Dombrowski did that before 2004.
