  1. I got tired of the salary /WAR analyses years ago. I know that on average, one WAR is worth 8 million (or whatever value they are using now), but it varies a lot from situation to situation. Teams with bigger payrolls don't need to worry as much about salary. Also, performance becomes more important than salary when you need just one more player to win the division as opposed to being in re-building mode. And from a fan perspective, it doesn't really matter that much. You just want to see your team put the best team on the field and are not concerned with efficiency.
  2. I think they are sometimes under pressure to churn out articles quickly for a small payment and need to come up with something different from what others are saying. I once had one of those gigs writing about relievers from a fantasy baseball perspective. I quit after two months because I knew I wasn't an expert at all and was churning out shallow BS to meet deadlines. I didn't need the money and it was a lot more fun just writing my own stuff for free.
  3. Saber prospect writers do that all the time.
  4. I think it's the pitchers that need a longer spring training. I believe position players can get ready pretty quickly.
  5. A trade can be good for both teams, but I still like this trade for the Tigers. I don't think Paredes will ever be as good as Meadows. I get the impression that Paredes has always been more highly regarded by the saber community than the scouting community, so I am not surprised that FanGraphs would like him.
  6. I am surprised that he only played four games because I remember his name well. I think it's because I used to look at the minor league stats in The Sporting News and saw his name often. It's sad to hear that he is in such tough shape.
  7. AL *Tor 97 wins TB 92 NY 91 *Chi 90 *Hou 88 LAA 86 Det 83 NL *Atl 92 Phi 88 *Mil 87 Stl 85 *LA 100 SD 87 Post season tournament: Doesn't matter. It's a crapshoot. Toronto and Los Angeles will be the best teams MVP Guerrero, Soto Cy Young Giolito Buehler Rookies: Torkelson Suzuki
  8. What if they accumulated picks instead?
  9. No, it's been around since 2012. It doesn't happen too often.
  10. Have members of congress always been as stupid as they are today? I never used to pay as much attention. I know they've always said dumb things to please their base, but the abject stupidity is stunning.
  11. Conversely, Comerica Park has deep fences, but had average home run factors for many years. The last couple years, the home run factors have been down, so maybe it's finally playing to its size.
  12. They can only trade competitive balance picks.
  13. Tropicana Field is a a tough place to hit home runs. Comerica won't change him.
  14. Unless you're JD Martinez.
  15. So, I guess Baddoo will be the center fielder with Meadows and Grossman at the corners and Reyes backing up. Meadows still has three years before free agency too. They will have an interesting (good) situation when Greene returns.
  16. Big surprise. Meadows is not a center fielder, but he can slug. I doubt Paredes or the comp balance pick will ever be as good as him. Aggressive move by Avila. I like it.
  17. 6 innings of 1 run ball of 7 innings of 2 run ball? That is an interesting question. It depends what kind of team you have? How much can they hit and how deep is your bullpen. I also agree though with not wanting to mess with a young pitcher who can get you 6/1
  18. Zack Short has heart and that's something that you can't teach.
  19. That is actually a pretty clever quote and there is some truth to it.
  20. I like that they are working on fundamentals this Spring.
  21. Granderson was one of the top defensive outfielders during his fantastic 2007 season. Then he lost speed while gaining power which is a common career path.
  22. They need to give 110% every day.
  23. Who are you thinking of? Rudy York Mickey Tettleton Mark Fidrych
  24. Second round picks are shiny on draft day, but most don't amount to much. It's time to start trying to win games. If Conforto gets back to where he was before last year, he is a really solid hitter. The only thing that concerns me is if there an injury.
